Frankie, I met you in Spiddal in 1976. I must say your De Dannan tape with DK's songs was one of my favourite recordings. Absolutely outstanding. Could you please play Principal Russ Jackson into Puzzling Messages in My Father's Words and Gestures finishing off with That's How I Played for Her Today by Graham Townsend whom I had, on stage at the Fiddles of the World Festival, stop and start again to adjust the tempo. After the show I waited six hours for Tony, who was dining somewhere with Graham and Eleonor, to depart for Ottawa. I remember the jerky ride on the on-ramp and coming out of a gas-station store on the highway to find no Tony who had parked in some remote spot after telling me "he'd wait for me." Off to the driving range now. I think some professional golfers might improve their game if they took some step-dancing lessons from me. Just ask my brother Ryan. My father would often say that teaching someone to dance was like breaking in a horse. I took more time doing it with all of my students, of all ages, and set them up well! Namely a piano virtuoso and a 2021 Olympic champion. I learned to step-dance to The Boys of Bluehill and it is my preferred pick for the beginner student. Donald Ryan that is.
Instead of saying Drums Under the Window by Sean O'Casey at my recital he said Drums Against the Window. He must have been thinking of Smash the Window Jig. And instead of saying Chief Louis Taypotat who in my opinion presented the greatest First Nations Dancers in North America, he said Chief Louis Teapot. Which reminds me, I am continuing to work on Sean Egan's cold case, one of the most forward thinking educators of the 20th century! Maybe what happened to Dr. Louis Carroll, who would have been a good fit for my folk festival, should be re-examined.
Speaking of Tony, he picked me up one day to do a show out of town and when I got in the car he said, "How do you survive?" What he did in front of the audience, on and beside the stage was gross. One was rubbing my thighs while I was seated beside the stage and the other I can't describe, only to say it was offensive to me. He rubbed my legs the same way my sister did one evening while visiting her home. She was rubbing cream into my thighs without my permission. I was very groggy when I went to drive. Had to force myself to keep awake. Wasn't drinking; had a couple of her cookies though. After what Tony put me through the morning of and during the drive to a commemorative show in Campbell's Bay, I don't know how I got through it. Brother Michael was supposed to press stop when we finished but he didn't. After driving to Montreal for the Tommy Hunter Show, due to stress, I was in the washroom tending to a nosebleed and the Director was kept waiting. That's why I look so pale.
