Meet Davis a 9-year-old Charlotte boy living with Type 1 diabetes. avis is a huge fan of his North Carolina teams, from mimicking Cam Newton’s dance moves to cheering on the Blue Devils!
After learning of his diagnosis, he was discharged from the hospital on a Friday night and was back on the baseball field the next morning. Davis’s Mom says he is a 9-year-old who is giving himself 4-6 shots a day, multiple blood checks, counting carbs, and learning about his self-care & whatever it takes to battle T1D!
His Dream: With a natural love for sports, Davis is very competitive and loves competing with his older brother and peers. When it comes to North Carolina teams, he lives in a house divided. His brother and mom are both big fans of UNC, but Davis cheers for the Duke Blue Devils! Davis’s Grandpa went to Duke and he has been cheering for the Blue Devils for years. Davis’s dream was to attend a Duke Basketball game at Cameron Indoor Stadium!
On March 1st, the students and staff at Sharon Elementary School huddled up with us to give Dream Kid Davis a surprise sendoff! They gathered with signs and smiles to show him that despite being the only kid in his school with T1D, he is not alone. There we told him that his dream of seeing the Blue Devils play was coming true that night. We then brought him and his family to Durham for more surprises. Dream Sponsor Martin Marietta rolled out the red carpet for Davis and his family, inviting them to check out one of their giant rock quarries! Davis and his family had a blast seeing the mile wide quarry and even driving one of their dump trucks.
After touring the quarry, Davis and his family enjoyed a delicious dinner at Mellow Mushroom before the big game. Then they were off to Cameron Indoor Stadium for a dream come true. Davis and his family were court side as they watched the players warm up. They later cheered the Blue Devils on to an exciting win over Wake Forest! But the surprises didn’t stop there…
With the help of The Iron Dukes, Dream Kid Davis was able to meet the players, and even Coach K after the big game! Coach K spent a lot of time with Davis and his family, talking to Davis about basketball, living with T1D, and much more. It was a very special evening spent with Coach K and the players that Davis will never forget!

Amazing video and happy for Davis his dream came true. Hope he can attend a few more games. Only at Duke do they actually convey such an authentic welcoming, family atmosphere that you can't help but to fall in love with once you've experienced it for the first time. From K, to his staff, players, daughters, and everyone in between no institution and basketball program on the planet does it like the DUKIES which is why they're unmatched. Keep fightin Davis and pullin for your Blue Devils!!
