The FF01 is in my top three Tamiya chassis of all time. The build is fun, is has a superb balance on track and looks gorgeous with hop-ups. Then every body came with its own wheel design… With your friends you could do a proper race, everybody could choose his body and you could have it all quite realistic regarding the cars met in real 1:1 on track too.
FF01 was my first Tamiya RC EVER at 9 years old (my grandpa painted the Renault Clio body) and I´m thrilled to re-live that build on the next video, Gav. A huge thanks!! Tamiya, we need this chassis re-released!!
Looking forward to these builds! That FF01 was my first car and I still love driving it. I bought the Clio Williams kitset as well as the Mondeo body and wheels and run it between SWB/LWB for the two shells. I even managed to get Paul Radisich to sign the rear window of the Mondeo. If your doing box art, I reckon you should do standard blue, it looks superb!
I love the FF01… I have two. You must be aware that the plastics in the shock towers and motor mount areas tend to be brittle. They easily crack so do not over tighten. The FF01 is better hands down. Tighter and better designed.
The Ford Mondeo is a massive score Gavin congrats getting that one! I also think that the metallic blue would look much better than the plan blue. Very exciting video for me.
I've got an MB-01, which like the BT-01has multiple configurations, I was going to do the MK2 Escort with it, now I'm thinking about a dual motor set up, god sake Gavin! Giving me crazy ideas 😂😂😂
That Mondeo kit is gorgeous, please do it correct colour box art, it would be a shame to deviate on a vintage new build! The body and wheels are super-rare and I’m guessing you won’t get another chance.
@@RCKickschannel find out next weekend 🤞 just need the sun to be out, and just had my knee stitched up, so hopefully im able to drive by then. But i cant see this one failing 👍
My guess for the double boxing would be that everything in the bottom section is the same for every car they plan on making with this chassi. The part on top is model specific parts. That means that you can have one line packing the bottom part, and have one line packing the top part, and then just bring them together and put the correct lid on.
I would venture to say that the Mondeo is going to be a much better chassis to drive, especially if you take it to the track. Ive heard the BT-01 has a ton of slop, making it a slop flop. Poor Boys Rc did some videos and is even trying to find ways to eliminate the slop from the front end. Might be worth a watch to give you a heads up on what to expect. Cant wait to see what you can get done with both of these cars. I wanted the BT-01 when it came out, mainly for the Supra body, but im glad i waited. I ended up finding the 94 Mark IV Supra i wanted for my Fast and Furious project anyway so.... Unless they can make some changes to the BT-01, to make it more reliable, I'll stick to my TT-02's for now, until something better comes along.
I'm guessing the old one may be better. It seems a lot of the initial reviews of the new car are not good. Bad handling, sloppy suspension, lack of adjustment capability. Yeah, I'd take the old one. It seems the new one may be trying to do too much with a cheapo chassis. Oil shocks and bearings. A clear win for any kit. cheers.
I like the look of the BT-01, but the lack of bearings and bloody friction shocks kind of puts me off....AND why does Tamiya call it FR or FF? The motor is mid-mounted for all 3 configurations!!!
Why does Tamiya bring out such a cheap lump of plastic in 2024? They already had decent chassis 15-20 years ago (TA-05 etc.), so it feels like they‘re developing backwards. Seems like they only concentrate on the body shell and want the cheapest chassis possible underneath. For that price point you can get way better kits from other manufacturers.
Raced the mondeo when I was a kid and it still sits on my shelf 😊

old one is a way better chassis!
Hi kev!
I raced the Tamiya Mondeo back in 94-95 in parking lot races in the Atlanta area, it was a great chassis back then.

Remember having on if these back in the day with a pokey motor it ate front tyres 😂😂😂😂😂👍👍👍
I've still got my Mondeo (and Clio) ff01's. They are great! I wish I could get a new Mondeo shell for it though
The mirrors are also on the Honda civic drift car and the Castrol body set 51421.
The slop in BT01 lets it down a little, you have to shim and tinker with it to get it run nice.
I have an NIB Fors Mondeo, too. Never had time to build it.
The FF01 comes with oil shocks, so its automatically better in my book.

I'm interested in the bt01 supra looks good
As someone who has owned both chassis I know what one will win out of the box.
I’m betting the old car it better, as the new car is modular and hence slightly compromised in each configuration.
I do love the mondeo, cant wait to see the build video Gav, and good luck with the stickers 🤞 im sure you’ll pull it off
Thanks 👍 Hows the new gear diff going?

Can’t wait to see your reveiw on max slash
2 sets of light stickers 1 set transparent for if you want lights the other set solid for those that paint everything and just want decals.
Nope there are 2 sets of most lights to represent the early or late model as they had slight differences. Both are transparent.

Thank you very much!
Yes that will be a job.
That thumbnail/cover, is that your Mr. Mackey impersonation Gav? 😂😂😂 M'kay?
Brilliant mate, love that Mondeo body 😮

Is this 4wd configurable? Loosing the tt01 or tt02 would suck
This is so cool 🤩👌👌
It's about time now you do the B7 you said over a month ago you were gonna do it next.
are you not using Rochester RC any nore
?
Any update?
How much did you pay for that mondeo kit ?
£300 off eBay

The friction shocks need to go from all Tamiya kits these days.

The wheels look incorrect... 🤨
Which ones?

I wouldnt even want a 1/1 Mondeo...
Lol😂
