Back in the 60s we had a 540 with the David Brown 900, and that was it back then. No kicker, just me and whoever grabbing and stacking! Thanks for the film,it was very good.
I grew up in Eastern Canada, and we hauled anywhere from 2 to 15 miles away so we always had two of us on the wagon stacking the wagon full so we would get more bales on it! You learned fast to always keep one eye on the kicker!
I grew up in northern NY on a dairy farm. As kids my cousin and I would be riding in the wagon of a setup like this, dodging the bales as they were kicked out and stacking them in the wagon so it would hold more bales.
My brother runs a 575 and a 316 baling for horse farms generally. Both are fantastic balers and both are kicker balers. The most we put up in a Vermont summer was 18,000-19,000 bales while both working full time jobs. He does most of it, I just help when I can.
I bale with a BC5070 and thrower just like what is in the video. We make feed for our horse farm and small sales operation in CT with it. I ran it for years with a nice vintage Ford 9600, but upgraded to a used John Deere 7320 a couple years ago. We have a fair amount of hills on the farm and I will often stack the wagon as I kick the bales on, so the size of the 7320 is nice to hold back that weight.
I started with a NH 273 pulled by a IH 656 back in the 80s. Moved up to a 315 behind an 806 for more capacity, then got a NH 316 that was in much better shape. All of them had the belted throwers. Baled alfalfa and straw. Retired and sold the 316 last year.
I really like hearing those knotters. Nice setup although that tractor is easily twice as large as is needed and it’s not even breaking a sweat! That’s a far cry from the Ford 8N with a New Holland Model 66 baler we used when I was a kid in the 80’s
When the video started I thought that's Wisconsin but then talked myself out of it. My Grandma always told me if you aren't positive go with your first guess as it will probably be correct and as usual she was right again. Spent at least a few years in Northwestern, Northeastern and Southwestern Wisconsin. Nice place to live although the winters can be a bit chilly.
I run a New Holland Super 66. It's from the mid to late 50's. It runs like a dream. Still has black stencils painted telling what dealer it shipped to in greensburg pa.
Today I still use a small square baler and I don't bale as much small square bales as I did years ago but I still have my International 445 baler with a IH 15 balethrower on it and I use either my IH 560 diesel tractor on there or my International 826 tractor on there and that Baler has some awesome capacity!! There's many times I had to push it and hurry up get the hay off before some rain storms in the forecast was coming and as long as you keep the top of the Bale chamber clean from buildup of chaff where the nodders are located, that Baler will outperform anyting back in its day!
Have a new holland 2018 5070 baler. Pull it with a NewHolland. 2010 T5060 MFWD in sw PA. Bale grass and alfalfa hay and also oat straw. No kicker. We use a long chute and stack on the wagons. We a total New Holland farm with the exception of our tillage and planting equipment. All of our tractors and hay equipment is New Holland. Nice video in some heavy straw.
New Holland 575 powered with a new Holland T105a tractor. Put up around 10k a year of both grass/alfalfa n straw bales. I know Mr Nolt’s granddaughter n they are a wonderful family. Awesome video 👍
We use a 575 nh baler and pull it with ih 766 or jd 3010 tractor. Baler has a tray and we stack on a rack wagon. Works really good in both hay and straw. Have to work a little hard, but sure is nice to have good bales when the snow blows.
Farm I worked on as a kid got one of these balers with a kicker. I do believe it was a New Holland. The Farmer used a 1206 International to power it. We built 2 bailing wagons that spring. We thought it was so cool now that we didn't have to stack the bales on a wagon and then unload to restack them in the barn. Didn't make any difference as the farmer could bale twice as fast and we never got out of that hot haymow. Just kept on changing the wagons. Used an M to pull the hay wagons. Good times!
Very cool. My first job was staking hay in the mow from kick bake wagons. I just shared a video of an IH 1256 baking straw at ruclips.net/video/IBkx5YijMSI/видео.html
Jason, in all seriousness you have the best videos on RUclips. I follow a lot of farms but the information and teaching you give is second to none. Thank you and please keep going!!! GO BTP!!😀😊👍👍
I have a New Holland 310 baler with a loading extension, pulled by a 2004 TN-70 (with cab). It's an old baler but still running strong and trouble free. We grow and bale mostly orchardgrass and timothy hay here in the Virginia mountains. My haybine is a 478 and it breaks down frequently. These old machines can still be found locally for $2,000 to $3,000 each.
I use 269 NH and pull with 55 NH workmaster. It is and old baler when I got it switched to plastic string it made a big difference. The first year I use it it didn't miss a knot. I bale around thousand bales of grass hay.
Iam on my third new holland square baler. My first was a super hayliner 68 i bought for $100 in high school. Than moved up to a 269, ran it for a few years and currently have a 275.
Used to bale straw here in Northern Ireland with a Claas Markant 65 baler pulling a flat 8 accumulator. Great baler. Still alot of old New Hollands baling here now. Im sure New Holland and Massey Ferguson are the only manufacturers making small square balers now but i may be wrong.
My dad bought a used 316 4 years ago. We bale mixed hay and oats straw with it.He runs it with either a 6080 or 175 Allis Chalmers. My brother has rabbit with the D 15 Allis Chalmers.
@@bigtractorpower We had a Model 67 NH baler before that, mostly pulled by a Fordson Major Diesel. Used an AC WD with it in the earlier days but that was a challenge for the little orange tractor.
We bale with a 1998 John Deere 338 baler with baling wire and a bale shoot no kicker. We pull it with either a 2002 New Holland TS100 or the 1984 White 2-75. We bale both timothy hay and straw. We finished baling straw last week. Our record is 1000 bales in one day with wagons. That with an 8 men crew. One running the baler 2 on the wagon, one person shuffling the wagons and. Four guys in barn stacking we were running three wagons.
First summer working on my uncle's horse farm I got to unload the hay, all kicked into a big high sided wagon, those were 80 plus pounds each wedged in like tetris gone wrong. Hot, scratchy, back breaking. I still love haying, have not even mowed a lawn in years.😂
I remember when we bought our first throw baler, 1982, it was better than sliced bread! No more stacking bales twice, once on the wagon and again in the hay mow.
The rhythmic sound of a small baler is so relaxing! Yes riding in that wagon to stack bales would require one to be on their toes! What fluid is in that tank back by knotter and what is the purpose? Thanks
Acid preservative that would be applied to hay to keep it from heating and rotting if the water content was too high. Unlikely to be used when making straw in this instance.
Wow, I grew up on a farm that had an Allis-Chalmers 170 (about 50hp) running a New Holland 273 baler , guess the balers today need a whole lot more oomph!
I’ve got a New Holland Super 68 that currently run behind a Ford 5610, but should be behind a IH 656 utility for second cut and use it to bale regular grass hay in southeast Kentucky.
What’s in the sprayer tank ? Never seen that or the bail kicker before ,over here in sunny old England we normally used to use a flat 8 sled then stack with bail grab , great channel 👍
I think its 'balers choice' additive. You would usually see in on large square balers here in Northern Ireland. It helps to reduce the moisture content in the straw.
I also like new Holland square Baler’s I have a 575 Nh I pull with 6410 105 hp and a tag behind agway bale sled and grappling systems works great as long as the field is long .Doesn’t take to bale a thousand bales
I have a new holland 320 with a pan kicker. I pull it with a 1989 ford 7710 series 2. I have 27 acres of grass alfalfa mix that I do 2 crops of. I sell the hay to horse people. I am located in central Wisconsin.
Had a NH 269 for a number of years. Bought it when my other baler was giving me grief. Good machine, but it did not have the same capacity as my 47 baler from IH. Even with the Super Sweep pickup.
i bale with a n.h.275 small sq. pulled it with a ih 504 then with a ih 544, then went with a mahindra 2565 with a cab that makes it nice. then i use a maxalator to pick up and stack on a wagon a one man op. and a lot better.
Thought it looked a bit small to be a 7060, Its a new holland T6070. Id say nearly all tractors over here that size would be 4WD, To have a 2WD would be very rare. Nice tractors to drive.
New holland built the best balers around , we wore out our first one not sure on model , it was 252 I think , we traded it for a 315 hay liner with thrower with electric thrower controls we had no hydraulics on the thrower , the thrower threw it where the tongue of the wagon went

Nice video! We use a kicker/wagon setup too, but with a John Deere 348 with #42 pan kicker. We have videos on our channel baling hay you might like from our small farm in the mountains of VA. Thx!
Balers that kick are not the same as a balers that throws bales. You can stack bales on a wagon with a thrower but, not a kicker ask me how i know lol. Good video and information.👍
You still have to unload the trailer manually. Having all the bales just thrown in the wagon and high sides on the wagon makes it much more difficult to unload.
I grew up on a Dairy Farm near Lake Winnebago WI. This is the set up my parents had. Brings back memories.
Kick balers we’re very handy in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

How about a kicker for big bales? 450 kilos flying through the air.!
I grew up in northern NY on a dairy farm. As kids my cousin and I would be riding in the wagon of a setup like this, dodging the bales as they were kicked out and stacking them in the wagon so it would hold more bales.

The bale kicker sure beats the old fashioned way of loading hay or straw 👍🚜
Late 70s through the early 2000s we used a 315 NH baler with a belt thrower. Pulled it mostly with an Oliver 1655, occasionally with an Oliver 1550.

I have a NH 276 Hayliner Jason and the knotters have not missed in over 4000 bales. Not bad for an old machine

More or less used for marginal hay so it cures even having extra moisture in it. We try to keep moisture below 12% so the bales don't get musty.

@@bigtractorpower ok thank you
Whats the liquid in the tank on these balers?
It’s a citrus preservative applied when they are baking hay to prevent molding.

Stupid question- Who is the maker of these wagons?
👍👍👍👍 my neighbor did it this way only he used International equipment.
Balers that kick are not the same as a balers that throws bales. You can stack bales on a wagon with a thrower but, not a kicker ask me how i know lol.

I know but I always called it kick baling. 😁

No. My most recent video features a 200 hp tractor on a baler in straw.
I use a 570 new Holland,hay and straw
😁👍
👍👍👏👏🚜🚜🚜
How would you like to be the guy catching those bales
Small correction. The tractor is a T6070.
You still have to unload the trailer manually. Having all the bales just thrown in the wagon and high sides on the wagon makes it much more difficult to unload.
My first job at 12 years old was unloading this type of wagon and stacking the hay in the barn.
