  • My Land Rover Defender 110 needs a new Spare Wheel carrier after the original one was nicked! I searched online for a replacement and found myself completely blown away by the insane prices of aftermarket Wheel Carriers. So I thought, "How bad could the cheapest one be?"

    The powder coating is really poor on those things, and it started peeling off within a couple of years, which is disappointing. The mechanism is still working well though.

    That looks great! The instructions on most of these carriers leave a lot to be desired, it is only after you have fitted them you find how it should have been attached, I found the worst part was lifting the wheel into place once you have fitted the carrier, but it does take the weight off the door, like most powder coated things they do go very dull after a while in the sun, not sure powder coating is the best finish for use outside, I sprayed mine (a Mantec) with satin aerosol. Stay safe! Chris B.

      Thanks Chris, I hope it lasts a few years at least. I might raptor coat it along with the front bull bar at some point, which I think could look good.

      @@DaleReubin The Raptor coat I have heard is very good, unfortunately I cant get it here in France, so I just used a satin finish aerosol, and that, so far, has lasted for 3 years without going dull, I did the front bar as well as that went dull after just a few months in the sun. Stay s B.

    I got the BA132 swing away carrier from Craddock and fitted it today. It looks almost identical to this one, and was only £100, so I was either getting a bargain or absolute junk……. Sadly it was the latter! It came with no instructions, missing hardware from the fitting kit, and the nuts for holding the wheel on were the wrong thread pitch. The fit itself was terrible, needing quite a bit of filing, re drilling and bending of bracketry to make it fit …ish. What should have taken an hour or two ended up taking most of the day, and after all that it looks crap, and doesn’t sit parallel with the door. So for those considering this option….don’t! 😢

    Hey fella good job struggling through with it. I had a Brit part one on my old 90 high was fine. I felt like the nut were either side of the bracket but that would need a nylock nut. I think it meant that it would stop putting inward pressure on the door but I don’t know how important that is.

    • @DaleReubin
      @DaleReubin  2 месяца назад

      Hey Nick, hope you’re good bro. I think you might be right. After installing it I had a similar thought. I wish the instructions were more clear. And yeah a nylock nut would’ve made it more obvious. How’re things with you?

  • @jackmartin9008
    @jackmartin9008 2 месяца назад +1

    i had no idea they cost that much :O . luckily my 90 came with a carrier already fitted and from what I'm seeing here it looks pretty similar to this brit-art one there's no branding etc and its been on there well iv owned the 90 since 2015 and its never been an issue.

    • @DaleReubin
      @DaleReubin  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, they’re crazy expensive for what it is. Glad to hear it’s been good for you. The only issue I’ve heard of so far is that the powder coating might not last.

      Thanks mate, I can’t say I hear extra noise and rattling at the back - maybe a rattle when I close the door, but nothing concerning.

    Hi Dale I have the same Brit part carrier. in 4 to 5 years the powder coating will degrade. The tubing will start to rust. I’m going to go ORE when I replace it later this year.

    • @DaleReubin
      @DaleReubin  2 месяца назад +1

      Ah right. Good point. Before it rusts completely in a few years I might raptor coat it to get a bit longer use out of it. I’d LOVE the ORE one - by far the best looking one but currently unavailable

      @@DaleReubin I think the moisture gets inside the tubing somehow and then rusts and pops off the powder coating

    It blows my mind how everything i get for my landy comes with either no instructions or completely useless instructions that dont even match whatever im fitting lol. Even the original owners manual with my 110 has the engine bay layout wrong lol

    The company branding has gone way out of control. Would LOVE a full set of Optimil door hinges, but they’re pretty pricey. Also don’t want it to say “Optimil” in 8 different places on the vehicle 🤦‍♂️

    • @DaleReubin
      @DaleReubin  2 месяца назад +1

      Exactly, I totally agree. I also looked at the opitimil hinges but the price tag is beyond my budget for now. I find Frontrunner do a good job at having subtle branding plus their stuff is really good.
