  • Re-trimming the headlining of my Land Rover Defender 110 was by far the most difficult job I've done on this vehicle to date! Not for the faint hearted.

    After watching this, I think this is a job that gives me the much needed boost to find new ways to frustrate my life. Awesome video, once again

    You made a slight mistake that will make them go soggy again (not your problem if selling on) , once dry, paint them with emulsion this waterproofs them. the fabric sticks well to the dried emulsion. You should have used 4 way stretch camper wall carpet, it's a doddle getting in to fit the contours. (I see you learned this by the end) :)

      That’s a really good point! I might do it again in the future and rectify those mistakes! I think a darker 4 way stretch material would be better! Thanks for the pointers mate.

    Did mine recently. Easiest way to get the clips out is to pull them enough to be able to cut them off, you’ll most likely need to replace them anyway. My headliner was also damp so painted it with PVA. I then got a trimmer to fit and use a material without a foam backing, the type used by VW in their t4 vans, not exactly factory but near enough and looks good. I Propped the headliner with some timber trimmed the fir tree clips and bobs your uncle all back in in 20 minutes (only a 90)
    Hardest job was getting the rear view mirror to clip back on.
    Well done anyway👍👍

      That’s really good mate! I wish I knew the PVA trick, I would’ve definitely done that. I might even redo mine with that t4van material in the future. lol 😂 I know what you mean about getting the rear view mirror back in. Mines still out.

      Haha, sorry mate, I don’t mean to discourage you but there are some great and very knowledgeable comments on here which I’m learning from too. I might even redo mine.

    I one had to remove the headliner from a discovery 2 to replace the key fob sensor. Had to remove half the car to get it out!

    I've removed mine few years ago, and every few months i'm thinking about fixing it and refitting in my 110. But after watching this video i think I have more interesting things to do :)
    As for condensation, have you checked seal above front window? Also front corners of the roof above that window? Those spots are not so obvious as safari windows for the water ingress.
    Great job btw.

      @DaleReubin  3 месяца назад

      Yeah it’s a pain :) Thanks for the comment. The things you mention are next on the list. I’ll go through the water ingress manual and check all the known points.

    Had planned to give this a go too with a black alcantara type material - now having second thoughts 😅

      @DaleReubin  3 месяца назад

      I think go for it mate. Someone commented that I should’ve used 4 way stretch material and I couldn’t agree more. I think I just used the wrong stuff 🙄 hopefully you’ll have more luck with it!

    If you think that's bad... try changing the side-panel windows in a Series 2/3...
