I am going thru something similar like this. The problem I ran into is the part seems to work fine. I even purchased a new actuator on Amazon and it gave me problems closing and it was like I had to force it a bit. I even replaced the striker part with no prevail. I thought maybe the salt from all this weather might have made the rubber lining expand, but I don't see any signs of that. Maybe I just got a bad part on Amazon that has the same problem like my original part? I don't really want to get jacked by Toyota Parts, but not sure what else I can do? PS; My new part looks new. If I take a screw driver it clicks to the lock position with no issues whatsoever. Even the new one I ordered on Amazon does the something. I guess I will just have to try Toyota Parts and get jacked for a bunch of money to replace that stupid part, or try another part from Amazon?
What if it closes but it won't lock. I'll shut all the doors and lock it setting the alarm with the key, but if I try to open the trunk it pops open and alarm doesn't even go off.
That’s how my 2007 and 2009 Camry’s do, because you set the alarm with the remote which activates the interior and door alarms and you use the key fob button to open the trunk, the vip alarm system knows that the trunk was activated by the owner using the key fob and does not signal the alarm to sound. You will still get the chime that normally happens when the trunk button is pressed.

Need help, I have the exact same car and year. The trunk opens fine with release lever. The key remote won’t open it
When the remote is pressed to open the trunk you will hear the sound but it will not open
Will the new lock respond to the remote key to open or is there some programming that needs to be done ?
yes

how do you replace the trunk hinge
The striker you mean? 5 clips and you have to pull up and it will pop out. You need a 40 Torx screw driver to unscrew it.
