I have had my BK Precision 2709B meter for more than 9 years now, this video discusses a couple of reliability issues I ran into and some of the fixes.
Please turn off "Stable Volume" in the video playback setting (the first menu item after clicking the gear icon) as for some reason, this new RUclips playback feature made the video much noisier than usual.
Look at the price to count ratio. You broke it. You fixed it. BFD. I have 3 of these. They are the smallest functional DMM out there. They sit all over my shop.
Had the same problem with my stand. Their support department sent me a free replacement when I enquired. Shipped from the US to the UK if I recall correctly.
Simple fix - put a flat punch in the banana jack and another punch on the rivet and gently peen it tight again. Couple of taps and good as new. Solder will eventually crack from usage.
Yea, That happens. Back in the 70's I wanted a Clamp on Amp meter so bad I could taste it. NEVER HAPPENED. Back then a DC clamp on meter was well over $100.00 .. Now you can have one with more then 100 X the precision they had back then for so $40.00 or so. Remember the LED watches ? $700.00 and more. Can't give them away now.

I have the very same DMM and using it for a decade. made many mistakes but it handled my carelessness like a champ.
Just ordered a 2709B. If I have this issue I will keep this in mind.
I've had a 2704B since the late 1990's. So far, no problem.
Apart from the connection problem, it's still very accurate :-D
Well worth the money.
I guess the rivets could be made to avoid mechanical tension. I always beep-test before any measurements.
However i agree that this a critical bug.
nice solder job. i should buy a new multimeter since at least 15 years, but that thing just won't give up.

Good to know! That's pretty impressive custom support!
Yes, BK Precision has an excellent support department, personable, amenable, and US based. Awesome people.

Agreed, will see how long my fix last.
Better yet, tighten the crimp and then solder it.
That's what I was going to suggest, as well as hard tin solder. More mechanical the better.
I have the 393 - nice meter.
My 10 year old uni-t developed a similar fault after a number of years plus the rotary switch needed contact cleaner spraying on it.
I've had quite a few multimeters have problems with the rotary switches. I would like to see a decent multimeter that uses pushbutton switches.
Use a Battery Spot welder and POP that loose peace a few times. DONE DEAL.
The problem I have with BK Precision meters is no duty cycle mode.

Did you get that for free from China?
Why would he have gotten it for free? And BK Precision sell their meters internationally.
