    Its Mark Hollis - a working class genius and self thought musician. Valued his family above the music industry - absolute legend

      I sat next to him one day on the Tube in London and told him 'sorry to bother you Mr. Hollis just wanted to tell you how much your music with Talk Talk and your solo record meant to me'. He thanked me and I was so happy to have met him.

    I love this band so much. IMHO, they made some of the best music ever. The Colour of Spring is one of my all-time favorites and then they went off and made the masterpieces Spirt of Eden and Laughing Stock.

    You won't believe this bands journey from early eighties synth pop to the creators of Post rock. Their last two albums can only be described as uncategorisable bliss. Stick with them for a, but concentrate on the period 86-91. Utterly sublime!

    Gwen Stefani’s band ‘No Doubt’ covered it in the early 2000’s - I imagine that’s why it’s familiar.

    Mark Hollis asserted his talent as a songwriter on It's my life and Such a shame, among others, which became hits almost everywhere in the world except in... Great Britain. But this success was not to Hollis' taste, as he found it overrated. So his songwriting evolved. On his next album, The Colour of Spring (1986), he abandoned the regulation three-minute radio format and indulged in more sophisticated compositions with rich orchestrations. Life's what you make it and Living in another world, with guest organist Steve Winwood, are superb examples of this....

      @Owlstretchingtime78 11 месяцев назад

      Have you heard the two albums after 'The Colour Of Spring'? They are a wonder to behold, and cannot be categorised. As Hollis said, 'Before you play two notes, just play one. And if you have no good reason to play one note, then leave a silence' That's what he was seated for right from the beginning, and with the albums 'The Spirit Of Eden' and 'Laughing Stock', you will find that there is this unique trade off between when to play, and when not to. Impossible to duplicate live, but with a good pair of headphones, minimal lighting, and maybe a stick of incense, Talk Talk get as close to the divine as is musically possible. Surrender yourself to a beauty that imo remains unequalled. Mark Hollis was a total genius!

      @@Owlstretchingtime78I should have simply answered: The Spirit of Eden" and Laughing Stock" two albums that count in one's life...

    • @Owlstretchingtime78

      @lepetitoiseau Forgive me for suggesting that i sense sarcasm in your response. Or is it just a lost in translation moment?

    • @lepetitoiseau
      @lepetitoiseau 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Owlstretchingtime78 Lost in translation!!! and I described the album to you as if you didn't know it, I didn't want to seem condescending ...I get a little carried away with certain artists who are really close to my heart!
      When you asked me if I knew the two albums " the siprit pf Eden" and "Laughing Stock", I sent you a long message, which seems to appear and disappear... I don't know if it's visible ...No misunderstanding between us?

    There's another channel I watch too - and this guy is a young drummer, he dove into Talk Talk's albums and they are really worth listening to! I grew up in that era (a young teen) and I had a record or two of theirs but as another commenter said, their music kept evolving way past their initial singles (Talk Talk, and It's My Life) into very experimental, world music type of sound. Maybe in a similar vein of Tears For Fears - but not exactly. I have just started listening to more of their stuff from mid to later part of the decade. Great reaction - and yeah Gwen Stefani covered this song so you may have also heard it from No Doubt.

    This is from a full concert in 1986, right near the end of the the band's days as a live act.
    Every track from this show is notably genuine and intruiging.
