Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason you need a dongle DAC/AMP plugged into a phone without a headphone jack is because when they removed the headphone jack they removed the DAC and the amp with it as well. It was all together and they needed space for other things and that was what was sacrificed. If you use Bluetooth audio, the DAC/AMP are in the earphone/headphone/BT speaker, it does the conversion, not the phone. I do not use my phone for music playback, I have a seperate device for that. I'm not bothered with calls, texts, and alerts when I want to listen to music.I mean if you have to take all that with you, why not just use a DAP instead.
The camera one was once because dragonfly recommended it to improve sound quality coming out of the dragonfly, but certainly you can use either with no major setbacks to the overall quality of the system.

You can use lightening otg cables to connect a dongle dac, rather than having to use the camera adapter monstrocity.
