Richmond, MI is a small city located in the northeast corner of Macomb County, MI. With its small city charm, Richmond provides a great environment for shops, restaurants, parks, and a lot of history.

Not surprisingly, there is a Richmond Area Historical and Genealogical Society which maintains some of the historic buildings (and is in the process of restoring a historic filling station as an automotive museum). Most small towns that I am familiar with, everywhere in the US, have local historical societies which are well worth getting involved with if you live nearby. Same for community theater and local cultural activities and festivals. I always say, and I am sure Scott would agree: Wherever you live or wherever you are visiting, scan guidebooks and the Internet, and try to visit every local museum, historic house, zoo, botanical garden, nature center, local and state park, etc. Bring your children if any. Talk to the docents. Sign the visitor log and make a comment. Buy the publications. It really all makes a difference.

This is very true. Every town and city has its own story to tell, and it is always great seeing people check out different communities. It's a great way to help out the local economies too.
