What an extraordinarily revolutionary idea: take us all along on your 3100 mile journey in four magical minutes, all punctuated by a beautifully composed song. On behalf of all us dreamers stuck here in the real world, I want to express my deepest appreciation to you three guys. Maybe because of you, some of us will choose not to stay stuck here forever. Peace...
youre right. in all regards. because of people like these guys, i've chosen to hike this trail. Someday, I say someday because I dont know if I'm going to start with the CDT or the PCT. But that journey doesn't start for several more years, as I've got kids and I want them to be a little older, and I need to build up to it physically...I haven't walked more than 1 mile in years.
For those who have not hiked the trail this is a great summary. For me, 70% complete so far, it brings back so many memories and fears and thoughts of the unknown I had starting out. I had no idea what NM's bootheel would be like, hot AF, the wonders of hiking the Gila River, the people I'd meet on trail in towns, in hostels (The late Nita of the Toaster House particularly). Its magic, its hard, its beautiful, it'll break your heart, it'll scare you and inspire you in the same San Juan mile. I loved it, hated it, cursed it, swore I'd never do it again and can't wait to get back out there again. Its one of the hardest things I've done and one of the best. Whether you try and fail (many do), try and end up sectioning, or end up thruing it in a year (congrats!), you will never forget it and it will change who you are. Take that hardest first step and find yourself, find yourself standing on a border thinking well now what, and put one foot in front of another starting an unfathomable adventure.
That’s crazy how the song seems to have been written to match perfectly your video. Good job and thanks for making all the community dream. One of these days I wish I can hike it with my 2 sons and wife !! How cool it would be !
I attempted the John Muir Trail (solo) and failed. I have nothing but respect for people who actually complete these treks. Its so much easier to dream than it is to actually do something.
have respect, for your self....you gave it a go, and it is still there, you probably learned a lot, so dont be shy for trying again....it took me three attempts to make the AT.....you never fail, until you completely quit....and even then you did something, and learned something...
Nice vid. Looking forward to hiking this trail in 2022 or 2023 (depends on Covid allowing access to the US). Through-hiked Te Araroa in 2015-16 and it was the best thing I ever did in my life.
Wow that was absolutely stunning! Thanks for sharing. I can see why now everyone makes it to the ens, it looks daunting as hell, but somehow so attractive.....
Amazing!! So many questions spring into my head though! How do you stay on track? How long did it take? Do you literally walk all day or do you camp out longer somewhere you enjoyed? What do you do for food? How expensive was it? This is something I genuinely want to do!
as some one who has hiked the AT.....maybe I can answer....stay on track.....focus on time not distance....I will be for x weeks....and then that gives something to shoot for...it should take about 5 to 6 months....and yes one hikes, usually, all day...some better hikers....take time off to swim etc....but not me....food is knorr noodles with tuna or something like it....one can have pre cooked meat, and there are other thing for food....too much to mention, here...I think the expenses are about 30 to 40 dollars per day.....plus hostels, hotels and restaurants, on resupply points...if you want to do this....keep in mind it is over, when you decide....one day, one month, one entire trail....no big deal.....give it a go.....
1/2 way didn't bother to reply, in Five years. Many Americans are like that. Ungracious to say the very least. But maybe he's been Terribly Busy hiking...!
@@iainsanders4775the answers to all those questions are pretty easy to find. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s ungracious not to reply to every comment on a RUclips video with hundreds of thousands of views, but that must be because I’m an asshole American.
This is super esoteric but the beginning of the video drove me nuts when the cuts first started happening. Until about the ~45s mark the cuts happen just a bit too early for the beat. Then it eventually really locks in and feels solid for the rest of the video.
Came across your blog the other day, i was looking up about bears on the PCT, haha. I want to hike the triple crown, i'm from Australia and have quite a fear of being ripped to shreds by a bear. However, i cannot let this stop my dreams right? 😂 Lovely video
I thoroughly enjoyed the virtual trek. I wonder,, would it be possible to include a small map in the corner of the video showing where you are at any given moment? I have only been on parts of the trail, so it would be very meaningful for me to see where you at any given moment point in time.
How long did this take you/ how did you get back home/ did you almost die/ how many miles a day did you do/ was the happy greenery easily accessible and if not did you bring any?
The Winds. Right around the time stamp you stated, he switches from the east side of Knapsack col in the far upper end of Titcomb Basin then over to the west of Knapsack Col, probably in the valley above Peak Lake maybe below Split Mountain. Its all stunning thru there, I've been a few times.
Nicely done "short" video of what a hiker will see along his/ her way. Would have been nice to put in subtitle info on what part of trail each segment was shot...other than that, truly a beautiful thru hike!!
There is NOT a single steam that crosses the Continental Divide! So those stream crossings must have been substantial detours from the Continental Divide.
T Bone - Precisely. By the size of some of those streams, the CDT must detour substantial distances from the continental divide. This does not diminish their feat, of course, but I'm curious to find a map of the trail vs the CD.

Agree, except for which world is the real one.

I hiked this in 4 minutes also.
Me too. I just placed nether portals at both ends of the trail and a trapdoor ice road in the nether and zipped across.
One of my favorite hiking videos and songs.
Breathtaking. But what we didn't see was how formidable this trail can be. Would love to experience this one day.
That’s crazy how the song seems to have been written to match perfectly your video. Good job and thanks for making all the community dream.

Don't try to finish it. Just start, enjoy every day and see where you'll end up. It will most probably be the end of the trail.
Dangit man, I only just hiked the PCT and now you're giving me all these feelings. Thruhiking has ruined me.
knowing about thru hiking ruined me already 😂
I've been waiting for more videos like this since I saw the PCT one. Thank you!
I made it for you.
You're the best!
Dude this is my favorite video ever
Our country is gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing this.
What a calming video, so beautiful! Hope the journey went well!
Still alive, so I would say it was a success.
This doesn’t deserve 40 dislikes. Incredibly well done!
I love this as a great way of sharing a 3000 mile story.

I put this hike on my bucket list after watching this, great video man 😊
It’s refreshing to see through hikers get to the Canadian border not in snow! I hope there’s no snow for me & my comrades this year! 😬
Love this video. Great song as well.
That wild to see a person walk so many miles got to give you people a ton of bad ass credit I couldn’t do it .
My nephew on it now left in may seen so many stunning pictures
Great job on this video. Really enjoyed it. Started CDT in 2017, this is the kind of inspiration needed to get back and finish.
Perfect sync with the song. Nice job.
^5 THANKS for doing this and posting it! As an elderly now...I "was" with ya "all the way!" Thanks...it was GREAT!

@@thejerkyshack8040 Well I didn't call you an asshole, American..
some truly gorge shots of the route/trail !! :) i love
hope get to do some fave sects b4 getting 2 old to go anymore. ur vid is inpirational !!!!
... sigh ... I would have to stumble across this.
Nostalgia hitting hard. (Quicksilver)
I just finished the PCT a few days ago and now I am here...
Amazing. It's so important to stop and capture a moment that moves you.
Awsome ! And on top the video is better than the PCT, especially the colors. A real pleasure to watch, thanks for sharing.
We can thank my new camera for this :)
Music for this vid is also awesome! Good job!
Worth it for the few seconds of the Winds.
That's what I said when I made it to the end.
That's an amazing accomplishment!
This was awesome thanks for sharing!

Good song, great trip.
That was beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Beautifully done. Hope you enjoyed the trip and especially Wyoming. :).
Has anyone ever enjoyed Wyoming?
America is so !!!!!!! beautiful!
Awesome!!!! I enjoyed this video very very much. Thank you!
This was a great video! Thanks for sharing! Subscribed.
Really cool, took a lot of vision to prep for this, but it gives a great sense of the changes in ecosystem. Like it a lot! New sub!
Awesome video! thanks for doing it!
Beautiful
Snow Lake at 54s! Beautiful
Great intro video! Thanks!
Now make Timelapse of whole trail.
thats gonna be like a 1 month long video
Thank you so much for sharing this
This is amazing
Beautiful! Thank you for the video.
So intersting. What an adventure.
Came across your blog the other day, i was looking up about bears on the PCT, haha. I want to hike the triple crown, i'm from Australia and have quite a fear of being ripped to shreds by a bear. However, i cannot let this stop my dreams right? 😂 Lovely video
love this video! and good song choice :)
Beautiful! Good job!
Must have been one hell of a trip goddamn
Amazing video
wow.... thanks for sharing!
awesome, how many miles did you guys shoot for per day?
In the beginning, 20 miles was a good day. Towards the end, we nothing less than 30 was considered acceptable.
Just under five months.
Side note: Fixed!
during the 2min-2:30 mark what state/region are you in?
Northern Colorado
thanks!
I thoroughly enjoyed the virtual trek. I wonder,, would it be possible to include a small map in the corner of the video showing where you are at any given moment? I have only been on parts of the trail, so it would be very meaningful for me to see where you at any given moment point in time.

were you or are you ever scared of losing the trail in the snow?
For me to lose the trail I would first have to know where it is.
flippin epic video!
So many rocks to climb along the way
This should be the music video for the song
Inspiring video and awesome music :)
well done! Looks like you guys had barely bad weather?!
Wasn't too keen on taking out the camera when it was raining/snowing.
Fantastic!!!
This makes me want to do this trip so badly!
That's amazing thanks for sharing
Awensome! What camera did you use?
sabik75 Sony a6500
Nice job...very inspiring!
And is it easy to get lost, also did you hitch hike at any point? I'm assuming that's pretty much a gamble considering the crazies out there
Since the new GoPros have much better stabilization, could you do it again? ;-) Great video!
Congratulations!!
Truly beautiful and what a great life achievement. What is the place called at 3:49 ??
Ptarmigan tunnel in Glacier NP
Very cool!!!
how did you get provisions on a daily basis? were there resupply stations along the trail, or did you hunt and fish?
I want to go! How many months will I stay on my arse lol
Merry Christmas!
I hope you are enjoying your time in NZ, I highly recommend you visit Nelson Lakes if you have time.
I'll see what I can do!
so cool, well done!!
What lake is 2:53? Beautiful
The Winds. Right around the time stamp you stated, he switches from the east side of Knapsack col in the far upper end of Titcomb Basin then over to the west of Knapsack Col, probably in the valley above Peak Lake maybe below Split Mountain. Its all stunning thru there, I've been a few times.
What shoes do you guys use for your adventures??
how long did the hike take to complete?
Rapid Thrash nearly five months
Nice video.
Were those several *bears* and cows scurrying at 2:26??
Surely you jest. Just cows and calves.
How long did this take?
Ended at the best spot? No Canada video?
Is it better than PCT?
I know you used a Sony a6500, but did you stick to one or two lenses? If so, which lenses?
Wanderlust...engage! Would be cool if you had put up some text as you entered each state.
Did you really have such perfect weather, or did you just pick the best bits? Amazing.
0YouCanCallMeAl0 didn't like taking out my camera on bad weather. But it's snowing in one shot!
EPIC again ! Stop it ! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hiking has open a beau 🌏 ! No > will I waste time in my human weaknesses of hard feelings/ego/bad energy ! ☺️☺️☝️💪🏄💥
I honestly thought you were walking around Colorado until I saw the Geyser.
well done! How long have you been running and with which camera have you been working? Greetings from Germany!
Who for fucks sake thumbs down these videos? Is satan on youtube? This is INCREDIBLE.
Impressive!
What date did you start? I’m doing the CDT next year, NOBO as well.
Nicely done "short" video of what a hiker will see along his/ her way. Would have been nice to put in subtitle info on what part of trail each segment was shot...other than that, truly a beautiful thru hike!!
How long did this take and what was your budget?
Forgive my ignorance, but where exactly does one cross a stream (any stream) while walking the CDT?
Mike Tardif you cross countless streams. You cross them at the spot where you don't drown.
And some of those streams must be ways away from the actual CD
There is NOT a single steam that crosses the Continental Divide! So those stream crossings must have been substantial detours from the Continental Divide.
T Bone - Precisely. By the size of some of those streams, the CDT must detour substantial distances from the continental divide. This does not diminish their feat, of course, but I'm curious to find a map of the trail vs the CD.
Absolutely a great feat no doubt but I also would like to know the trail vs the CD. There is no stream at the CD level, making it a very thirsty trek.
