    I currently own a previous generation Escort Redline (the former long range king), and I still love it. Unfortunately, I will not be spending any more of my money with Escort. I tried calling them years ago to order some accessories, and the rudeness of the representative was astounding! At least I know now that it is not just me that has had a horrible experience with the attitude of their customer service representatives . I’m not going to beg ANYONE to take my money, and the second that I don’t feel as though my patronage is appreciated, my money and I will go elsewhere!

    Escort won me on the 9500ix when it came out, then lost me on the Max and Max360. Marketed as having DSP to analyze a radar signal DNA(much like what Theia looks like it could do much better). The performance was not much better than the 9500ix at the time. Until Escort does something that impresses me, I won't be buying their detectors. It is not a matter of whether the RL360c is worth it, it is a matter of whether Escort (the company) is worth it.

    One of your best vlogs! I have been contemplating which RD to go with. Personally, I prefer the plug and play benefits of the Max 360C and Redline 360C and have called Escort in an attempt to gain information...once for each unit over a two week span. I spoke with Barbara in sales and she rattled off the same exact identical spill for each products, and when I questioned her about specific deficiencies she was clueless and assured me that she has each unit and has never experienced that problem with her unit...obviously BS. She is trying to sell these units by either not answering pointed questions, being short and rude, or repeating previously declared information that is coming from a sales sheet provided. Very unprofessional sales people who know very little about the products they are trying to sell. Same can be said about Sheldon or whatever the dude's name is who is her counterpart. I specifically inquired about the processor now being implemented in the RL360C and whether or not is was new or the same used in the Max 360C. Neither of them had any idea what so ever. Escort needs to revamp their marketing department and hire sales PROFESSIONALS. Of course, all this is humbly IMO...what do I know?

    One advantage to the V1g2 that you leave out: Valentine offers both a Concealed Display unit and a Remote Audio panel for those of us that prefer a stealthy installation. Any police officer that can see your detector stuck prominently on your windshield or mounted under your rear-view mirror is unlikely to give you a warning versus a ticket. With these accessories you can install your V1g2 discretely and control it from below the dash. I’ve installed 1st generation V1’s in Kleenex boxes and even on the rear parcel shelf; you just can’t do that kind of installation with a detector that requires that you have a clear view of the display and easy access to button controls. I wish that more manufacturers would offer these sorts of accessories.

    • @SloDwn1135
      @SloDwn1135 4 года назад +2

      Spike T excellent points. I too value stealth. In one vehicle, I can run my R3 in the tint strip and it’s nearly impossible to see from the outside and when the visor is down from the inside. Due to suction cup issues on the other car, it is on a blendmount. With that, I run in dark mode with the most dim settings when it alerts. If I were to be pulled with the Blendmount config, I’d have to do some quick hiding, supposing it wasn’t initially spotted. Thus, a stealth install would be a lot more “relaxing”, when getting pulled, shall we say.

    Over the past 20 years I've owned Uniden, Beltronics and Cobra radar detectors (in that order) and out of the 3 I remember the Uniden seemed to last the longest but it wasn't a top tier detector at the time, my Cobra doesn't seem to pick up radar any more or all the cops I've been passing don't use anything the detector can pick up now plus the speaker sounds distorted like it is about to die. After watching these reviews and doing some research here and there I'm going to purchase the Uniden R7.

    I was considering the Escort Redline 360C until I saw this video. Now I’m not sure if I should get one that has problems to begin with. I’ve owned a number of detectors and I have an early escort Max that is still working after I updated it on their site, I also have a Valentine 1 that works fine except for all the false alerts, but I’m used to it, and when Valentine 1 came out with the Gen 2 I ordered one as soon as I could. My Valentine 1 Gen 2 is back at the company for the second time! I sent it back when it quit working and they did a diagnostic on it and returned it to me. I was all set to use it on a short trip and I didn’t make it out of the driveway before I realized they didn’t fix it. It’s doing the same thing it did when I sent it in initially. I was so upset since I planned to use it on my short vacation the end of June. I had to send it back again and I have my fingers crossed that they will do something to it this time to try and fix it, the first return was just a waste of time.
    I’m really upset with Valentine and that’s why I was considering the Escort Redline 360C, but it sounds like they launched it before it was ready. Thanks for your videos and all the information you provide.

    I run WAZE. For this I have a dedicated display tablet. Running JBV1 with the V1G2 doesn't require any additional hardware in my case. I like having all the additional information at my fingertips. For ME I prefer the V1G2 because I don't need MRCD, MRCT, X or even K in my area. This creates an extremely quite and very effective solution. I also have it tucked away out of sight and use the remote audio and remote display so it doesn't add any clutter to my windshield. I probably have about the same amount invested but feel like I have a better overall solution. JMHO

    Escort must have really treated people poorly. I wasn’t expecting to hear “and rightfully so” as part of the analysis on their treatment of their customers.
    I currently have my R3 settings and lockouts where the detector is pretty good for my needs. I’d love to have arrows, but BSM and auto program wouldn’t be enough to make me spend that kind of coin, even if I had to start fresh with manual lockouts. I do wish however Uniden could/would release a code push for less quick ramp-up. With a detection on straight, flat terrain, it’s hard to tell of the bogey is on top of you or a mile and a half away.

    I have had five encounters with Ka police radar the latest this morning. I was on 17 westbound in NY state going up a large hill and the 360 started alerting I checked my odometer in case it was a LEO. As I crested the hill the road curved right over a bridge then straight down hill and at that point I could see the LEO at the bottom of the hill to the right. As close as I could tell it was .8 to.9 of a mile which I thought was outstanding, the ramp up was fine and the arrows worked well too.

    Personally I think right now the R7 or the V1 Gen 2 are more worth it. You get better performance and cost less. This new Redline has the capabilities of being very good. I still can't bring myself to pay $750 for it. If Escort fixes the issues and brings the price down to maybe the $500 range then yes I would consider it. Maybe my mind will change if Escort gets their act together.

    • @dyinbreedband
      @dyinbreedband 4 года назад +2

      I dont get these comments of the 360c having the capability of being very good. The detector is out and Escort fixed the arrows and rampup issues. It smoked the R7 and V1G2 in rear detection, so from that perspective it is already "the best". As far as performance if you think that somehow any of the top detectors on the market are somehow going to get an update that is going to increase their distance by another 1/2 mile, that aint gonna happen. They will issue a new model rather put that increase into a current detector. At 80 miles/hr. a car travels 117 feet/sec. In Vortex's test all the top detectors were within 117 feet or w/in 1 second apart from each other (if traveling 80 miles/hr.). It also means that at 80 miles/hr the detectors are detecting 18 seconds before reaching the cop and 13 seconds before the kill zone. You want to get your car under 10 over the limit, so 74 miles/hr in a 65 speed limit, so you need to get your car down by 6 miles/hr in 13 seconds. The point being all the detectors far exceed the limits necessary (even if the cop is using I/O). My original Redline still provides adequate distance protection, what drives me nuts is the filtering on K band. What Vortex reports is that the 360c appears to have the best BSM followed next by the V1G2. The R7 BSM is currently not competitive. Given those facts the logical choices are the 360c or the V1G2, both which provide the maximum distance coverage and are the quietest. One cost $250 more (+tax) than the other. So the question is would you pay $250 more to get auto-lockouts, auto-updates, stealth, and all of the other "non-detection enhancements" offered by the 360c? I would pay a premium, I'm just not sure that I'd pay a $250 premium. I might pay $50 or $100 more but consciously wouldn't do $250. This is where Escort missed the boat. I still run Waze and would run it even with a 360c or a V1G2. Given that, I might as well setup the V1G2 with my phone since I will turn on the phone to run Waze anyway. I can stick the $250 in my pocket and basically have most of the additional features. My two cents......

  • @warrenschultz2735
    @warrenschultz2735 4 года назад

    To me...it comes down to where you live. If you live in a huge city and plan on speeding and more often around small streets and some large routes, red light cameras, then you will need the filtering etc. If you are in a larger rural area, there is no doubt, the R1, R3, R7 is the way to go. That's where I live and my R1 is supreme, soon to go with the R7. I don't need the GPS..so distance is my situation....exactly. Its up to each person.. Companies know too... that they just can't/wont make one detector with all the best features and bells and whistles because then they wont sell any other products. Same as a vehicle..

Based on what we know so far, its a game changer - if it turns out to do all they suggest! Guess I'll wait a bit longer to see....

    You touched on the difficulty of updating Uniden products. I totally agree. I'd almost rather take a beating than try to go through that process. Please use your stroke to get them to come out with an easier way to do upgrades. (And don't say you don't have stroke!) Escort, as you said, is dead level simple. Almost worth paying a bit extra to have that convenience even at the expense of losing some range. I almost hesitate to replace my R3 with another Uniden detector because of the extreme difficulty to do upgrades. Great review, as usual.

    I just took a two way road trip from MD down to Ga by way of Tenn. Feedback: On the way down, radar was quiet and minimal false alerts from BSMs. Not many State Patrols out but did alert accordingly, arrows did't transition well at all. I didn't run Waze but the Database Defender. So summary, on the way down it was okay. On the way back, I did have the 1.3 update which came out while I was in Ga. On return went through Tenn and S.C. with no issues. However, while in S.C. with about five ST on Motorcycles, there was a speed trap and no alert went off. My settings are K wide, Ka 2,5,8 MRCT off. (could someone educate me on what I missed on setup). That was the only time I felt uncovered. Luckily ST came and got the car behind me and didn't come after me. Still no alert so not sure if they were shooting anything or not. After that I used Waze and ran Defender Database in the background. Overall, I was comfortable using and looking forward to my next road trip!!!!!

    I live in LI NY, and I'm in the market for a new RD. I had a Beltronics RX65, then an Escort Redline O, which recently died. I skipped the Redline EX and Max360, and I'm looking at the Redline 360C. But its $$$, and the fact that Escort has become such a tough-to-love company give me pause. Also, the initial test results you did showed the rear antenna sux. I agree with all you've said. I would jump all over a V1G2, except for 1) I use iPhone and love CarPlay, and the iOS app isn't as good JBV1 it seems, so I would need to run a 2nd phone in my car. 2) there is no MRCD/CT detection, which exists in NY. Can Waze cover that exposure, I'm not sure? I like the R7 but one thing I got tired of is all the false alarms requiring manual lockout. Legal troubles with auto-lockout make me want to wait-and-see.... and speaking of wait-and-see, Theia is supposedly around the corner. So I'm going to wait, and make a judgement call in a couple months. We'll see how Uniden is doing with the R7 legal issues to allow auto-lock-out, how Escort is doing with firmware updates to the RL360C, and how Radenso does with the Theia release. It's an exciting time.

      Careful with your distance with rabbits. I had a friend pulled who was the last in a group of four. The cop admitted he knew all were speeding, but chose him. I saw a video about Michigan cop interviews and one said he mostly pulled the last car because it was easier. Thus, a rabbit is fantastic, but one needs to be at a distance that the rabbit is the only focus of the LEO.

    There are some features that the V1G2 has that will make it difficult to switch-other than the price. The count of the total threats and notification of the most immediate threat. I am starting to see laser become a bigger threat in both SC and GA. So maybe laser protection becoming more and more important.

    I hope Escort plays this video at one of their corporate meetings. The issues with Escort, especially customer service, are correctable. They could quickly bring customers back but If they haven't already started and if they don't react soon, it'll be apparent to everyone that they just don't care. They can't rely on having a good detector to increase sales, the market for top of the line units is too competitive. I hope Escort realizes that no matter what your product is, your only product is service!

    R7 has been great for me, but the multiple bogey is a little lacking, I wish it had the dots like the v1, over all the gps mode is awesome, the long range is the main reason I got it and it lives up to those standards, a car with 750hp need to be warned quickly, and R7 does just that. I liked the v1G2 BUT having to hook up your phone for red light camera warnings was a no for me, the R7 has it all in one package!!!

    So many questions and not so many answers, and I know it isn't the fault of the reviewers. Cedar Electronics (Escort) badly fell on its face, promising outstanding performance coupled with a premium price and delivered at best a mediocre product. I have the Redline EX, and even with the improvements with the Redline 360c, it isn't worth Escort's underwhelming "trade-in allowance". The trade-in allowance still keeps the Redline 360c at a premium to Redline EX on the website. I will add the better trade-in allowance will only be around as long as there are Redline EX's available for purchase.
    A Uniden R3 or R7 would probably fit me better than my Redline EX, then the problem is what to do with that unit. Radenso's Theia is very interesting as it promises so much, though at this time it is vaporware.

    Great video as always Vortex. The real test of a radar detector is how well it integrates into your driving experience and just becomes a part of your car like any other safety feature. Two plus years ago I replaced my V1 with a Max 360c and haven't regretted it. I may not have the best range but I just don't have to think about the detector. I get so few falses and sometimes I forget it's there. Does detector stealth really even matter? I drove through Virginia last weekend and think to myself how many police are really scanning for detectors. I can't imagine many. I wanted to love the Redline 360c but that is just too much money for what it is compared to my Max 360c. I'm not waiting for Theia cause what I have just works.

    Great advice but it seems you're a bit bias when it comes to V1G2; It has come across in your last 4-5 videos. I know is hard to be objective especially when owning an original V1 for so long and anticipating a newer version of it. But by saying the R7 fault is the updates and then saying the V1G2 fault is using a phone, I can't really say I agree they those faults stands equally. The faults between the R7 and the V1G2 can't be compared equally; that's like saying the fault of an iPhone is a lack of a physical keyboard and the Blackberry is the lack of App support. The R7 update is almost a non-issue as only some ppl have a problem updating their RD. And it's not like you're updating your RD every week. Uniden releases 2-3 updates a yr for the R platform. As for the V1G2, to really get the meat of it you need to literally tie up your phone to your RD. No GPS, no screen, no MRCD, no lockout, etc makes the V1G2 much worse a radar detector than the Redline 360c and the R7. Of course, when tied to a phone, it matches the R7 and in some areas exceeds it, but most people don't want to tie up their phone to an RD every time they get in their car. So as it "STANDS", you said before the R7 comes out with a better BSM update or Theia comes out to the public, a better comparison is the V1G2 and the R3. Both units offer a great range, but the V1G2 offers arrows but lacks GPS as the R3 offers GPS but lacks arrows.

    What I’d like to know is the K band sensitivity...is the BSM filter just that good or is is reduced K band sensitivity making it seem like it’s BSM filtering is helping eliminating the false alerts? The WiFi would be nice, but realistically how often are we updating firmware? Auto lockouts I could care less....I’m driving pretty much same places...I can mark quickly no issues. Detector immunity? Don’t care....so I just don’t see the value here compared to others. Why is Escort charging so much for this...it’s not bringing better performance, or any new technology to the table...why do they think it’s worth $350-400 more than the competitions offerings? Escort you’d probably make more money overall just in the amount of detectors sold if you’d just lower the damn price!

The update is mostly for if you want to rely on the internal database and not have your detector connected to the cloud.

    The R7 and V1 G2 looks much nicer, than the 360c. If it matters to you. lol

    I'll stick with my R7. I live in a rural state where false alerts and stealth isn't an issue for me, nor do I want to have to use my phone and an app. While I'm sure for some the redline will be better suited for them, it's just not worth twice the price to me compared to the R7.

    I spent $700 for max360c So what do you think which one better the max 360 C or the red line? because I just did the order today so I can cancel if it’s not good.
    thank you!

      I’d go for the Redline 360c between the two for sure. bit.ly/2YaCNiW

    I currently have a hardwired escort max will the power cord still work for the redline 360c or will i have to run a new wire.

    I'm a commercial driver and it is illegal for us to have a radar detector, and so if the escort redline 360c is undetectable then just by that I think is worth to pay the price.
