Proud of how the indigenous people are taking care of the river. I don’t see garbage/ plastic choking the river and town . Kudos to the people of Opobo
Siminilaye Fubara, it is over to you now as governor to totally transform your home town by linking it with bridges, roads and modern infrastructure. Opobo can be a tourist delight and hub in Rivers State, same for Ogoniland.
The fact that the water is clear says a lot about the residents 👌🏼
Jaja of Opobo was a story I knew from childhood.

It’s a beautiful place and the fish diet is really delicious.
I'd love to visit this town soon.
It’s a beautiful and historical town
There's something serene and unique about this town. The historically past and its renowned leader Jaja. I was still in primary school back in the days reading about the man and town. Times does sure fly but history lives on.
Look how serene this is...this is a beauty to behold
Yet no deep seaport in Port Harcourt upon all the deep waters everywhere.
May corruption, ethnicism nepotism and religious affiliation don't take this country to extinction!
🙏🏽
Onne seaport is a deep modern port
Because they were considered igbo people whereby they are mix of ijaw and igbo people
Headache is really our problem
Maybe the information below will cure your ignorance and deliver you from your perpetual feeling of victimhood:
Onne (Near Port Harcourt) Seaport in Nigeria has a depth of approximately 12 meters (about 39 feet) at the entrance and around 8 to 10 meters (about 26 to 33 feet) in the berthing areas, depending on the specific terminal. This depth allows the port to accommodate various types of vessels, including larger cargo ships.
Onne Seaport primarily handles several types of cargo ships, including:
1. Container Ships: For transporting cargo in containers, including consumer goods and manufactured products.
2. Bulk Carriers: Used for transporting bulk commodities such as agricultural products, coal, and minerals.
3. General Cargo Ships: Carry various types of goods that are not containerized, including machinery and industrial products.
4. Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) Ships: Designed for vehicles and heavy equipment that can be driven on and off the ship.
5. Tankers: For transporting liquid bulk cargo, including petroleum products.
6. Supply Vessels: Often used in the oil and gas industry to deliver supplies to offshore installations.
Onne Seaport is particularly significant for the oil and gas sector, supporting logistics for exploration and production activities in the Niger Delta region.
Transformation by a new King Jaja of Opobo - Governor Fubara😀. 'Enyi na aga, anyi so gi na azu, gwo gwo ngwo' 🥁🎺🎻🎷
King Jaja was an Igbo man from present day Amaigbo in Nwangele, Imo State.
Facts
He was purchased as a slave boy, just as property rightfully belongs to its owner. Instead of pursuing an ethnic agenda without adequate research, focus on something truly meaningful
@@joeabibo he was never a slave. Stop rewriting a false narrative. Jaja migrated from his hometown to establish a new community for his trade
@@stefananetoh475 so which means he was born in bony as a bonny indigene before leaving with his people😂😂😂 igbos want to rewrite history after listening to their supleme leader without DYOR😂😂😂😂 you need to ask questions about who Juwo juwo fe really is amd stop listening to people who reason with so much false narrative and emotions
@@joeabiboSo mentioning Jaja's heritage is not acceptable. I did not receive the memo of secrecy. But Jaja was born in the Igbo village of Umuduruoha in eastern Nigeria. He was kidnapped and sold into slavery as a child, and eventually brought to Bonny ( Although some historians claimed he migrated to Bonny on his freewill). After a civil war in Bonny in 1869, Jaja retreated to Andony territory with members of his clan. He established the Kingdom of Opobo on Ikot Abasi, naming it after Opobo the Great, a Pepple king. His Igbo managerial and enterprise ability were well documented in his business endeavors.

So, Opobo now has a link road to Ogoni and to Portharcourt, instead of water ways through a boat?
Intresting development in River state Biafra land.
I visited Opobo many years back, through water ways, it was a memorable ride and meeting personalities infront of Anni Pepple sandfilled families, king of Opobo and his cabinet members.
My team and i went there on a medical outreach.
They welcomed and hosted us well and one of my unforgetable experiences was their culture and tradition that forbids you from stepping on a high mud or cement floor barricade while entering or exiting their homes.
I salute you king of Opobo and the entire inhabitants of Opobo kingdom

FLORIDA OF NIGERIAN
Exactly my thought. 😮 Such a beautiful and calm looking place. You can feel the serenity.
One important history: Opobo Division (LGA) was under the administration of South Eastern State, which is the present Cross River State before it was carved out to Rivers State by the military administration of General Olusegun Obasanjo.
The people of Opobo are nice people to live with.
Onne seaport is a deep modern port
Not exactly rather there are two Opobo the island and upland. From time imemorial Opobo island is in River state and the Opobo upland was in Cross river but was carved out to Akwaibom state, Opobo upland was formally known as Igwenga but today it's known and called Ikotabasi in Akwaibom state.
@chigozieosuoha7189 I'm saying this because I had a teacher who taught me in Primary three, Mrs Jaja, whose husband Mr Jaja was the Secretary to the Cross River State Government at that time.
I agree with you that a part of Opobo was later renamed Ikot Abasi still in the former Cross River State until the creation of Akwa Ibom State.
Must still be related to the jaja family in Rivers state...one family ...in 2 different states😮
@@stellamarisnwabue3283and who told you Jaja owns Opobo. There are 14 sections which we refer to as polo. Jaja polo is just one of them
The founder was an Igbo man, till today they speak Igbo as their native language, the governor of Rivers state fubara speaks igbo as his native language.
Don't say what you don't know, Opobo was founded by 14 Chiefs who left Bonny and those men where of Ijaw ethnic nationality. please be guided, make research and be well informed so that you don't come to public space and display ignorance.

1869 and commissioned 1870. Correction

You wonder what is the purpose of NDDC
Opobo was never a transatlantic slave trade centre...
For water areas , you are buying two fish for 10k isn't that a red flag ?
£5 for all that fish!!!!!! What a bargain
Nigeria is cheap and affordable
@Biqmillar Not Lagos! This is Opobo! 😆
Unpopular opinion King Jaja was a slave trader like all his contemporaries and only changed to palm oil after the British empire outlawed slave trade in all it's colonies...
Jaja was never a slave trader. He was sent to ndoki at a tender age to learn the trade in palm oil. Slave trade was already abolished.
Opobo is Igbo land because King Jaja is an Igbo man.
I think opobo kingdom is also known as bonny island am i right?
@@sharonogee No, Bonny Island is a different region
@edwonder_pt okay thanks so much
No, but bonny gave birth to Opobo. Opobo was founded by 14 chiefs and elders of Annie Pepple House of Bonny, hence it was named after the legendary king Opubo Annie Pepple. Amanyanabo of grand bonny kingdom in 1800+. Opubo ama to the Ibanis and Opobo to the Europeans
@tamunoj5437 wow thanks so much, very well understood
Opobo existed since the 17th century, the Ijaws who owns that land were interacting with Portuguese traders as early as 1660’s.
Secondly, Jaja was a slave who belonged to an Ijaw war lord and trader. Being the most trusted slave, his master entrusted his business into Jaja’s hands and when the old bloke died without an heir, somehow Jaja was ably to buy off his family and continued the business. Which included raiding up north into the Igbo lands and selling the captured slaves to European buyers .
Go read British history, the reason why he was dethroned was refusal to stop slave trades, not oil palm as the narrator pushes here.
All these whitewashing of history to suit some naive narratives!
Jaja didn’t found opobo.
He was a rescued slave that helped fight off slave traders, and rescue more slaves.
As a result he was made a king but this also brought some problems
You learned history in a restaurant! Jaja didn't find opopbo😂
@@Onipeoluwaseun-jk1csHE SAID A TRUTH. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS PRESENT YOUR OWN ACCOUNT OF HISTORY IN A DIPLOMATIC WAY
Most of the history we learned in Nigeria education system about Jaja of Opobo is false. Jaja was a terrible person, but we're not ready to talk about it
Did you live during his lifetime?
Besides, he was originally from Igbo land.
@@bigdaf6981my question above is yet to be answered by the original commenter and now here you come with another spin on the subject.
Opobo was founded in 1817, that’s 208 years ago this year. Do you dispute this?
So, two centuries and counting but with just a few lines of claims on RUclips without any shred of evidence you want us to believe your story over the one that’s over 200 years old, come on men, stop with these after the fact, overnight historians who bring only diversionary claims just to promote their preferred side show narratives.
