Dublin and Ireland is crying tonight. I grew up listening to these and they were amazing. RIP Christy. You weren’t a bad man at all. Just a beautiful singer.
Not one person in the crowd with a phone in their hand, just all there enjoying the music, oh for it to be 1999 again, RIP Christy, a true Irish musical icon
Worked in the concert promotions business, only as local crew through alot of the 90's, the 90's was like a mini revival of the 60's music wise, concerts became good again,a few good gigging bands around, some of those top bands you take them out of the studio put them on a stage and they just wither and die,a good front man and band is a thing of beauty 🍀
@irish6005 he didn’t pass away, he’s been in palitive care since Christmas, sadly on the way out. I was very close with his nephew who passed away a month ago sadly ❤️
This is beautiful .I remember He once said ..."theres places in Dublin that the celtic tiger didn't stop to take a piss" . He cared about his locality and stood up for them publically. God bless this true legend.
From Dublin but living in Manchester over 20 years now playing Aslan all day, one of the best bands I've ever seen. My 15 year old son keeps asking me what song was that and so has downloaded Aslan on his Spotify even though I've been playing them for years he just said I really never paid attention until today because of asking what was it like at his concerts, I just said son just watch this and then Crazy World video. For the whole day he just asked questions about Alsan and it just brought back so much memories telling my son the whole history of Christy and Aslan. RIP, your now pain free. 😢☘️🍀
Sometimes it takes kids a while to pay proper attention to the music our parents play throughout our childhood. So happy my parents introduced me to new order, joy div, Pink Floyd, the streets, smiths, Motown, Joan baez, Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil young, the fall and countless others. Love you mam and dad ❤
Touching connection. I'm sharing and tagging my daughter in crazy world. My strongest desire In this world was to protect my from the many machines that devour workers. Like Christy, I had my share of the bedevilments and from the time she was very little but old enough to listen, I told her of the woes of those bedevilments. She's 30 and dodged them so far. This song reminds me that I really fucked everything else up. Lol. I'm a 60 yr old Massachusetts boy living in S. Florida. My 75 yr old sister introduced me to Aslan. Magical stuff.
Listening to on repeat here. Sending it to friends near and far. The best version of a brilliant song. Imagine being the 'bloke in the white t-shirt' showing this to his grandkids. Magic.
This is the most incredible live performance I have ever seen in my life thus far. Christy is a generational talent. I would give my left paw to witness his stardom. What a phenom
First seen Aslan in a place called the Dance line club in Nth great Georges St in Dublin (early 80s), it was a basement of an old Georgian building, stank of beer and cigarettes, great performances and great times.
I sit here in London, 2/6/21 and agree with your statement. This song has shook me deep inside. I can identify with it at my old age of 69. I've seen every name you can think of. Hendrix,Zappa, Doors,Joplin, Dylan, bla bla bla, but tonight this song has absutely rocked my inner consciousness. I can relate it to my own life.
Why aren't these guys up there with the 1% of music royalty? They're fucking fantastic, Christy is a legend who's been to a lot of the dark places I've been. He has an absolutely unique stage presence and one of the best voices you'll ever hear.
@@mydigicraftscrafts8649 Yeah , but most (all?) of the successful bands for many years would have been into drugs ,it didnt stifle their commercial success ,however brief.
Working in an Irish radio industry for over 5 years now, I can tell you that Irish broadcasters must only or at least play 20 % of Irish music per hour by law (B.A.I) . Having said that an hour of Radio is filled up with 10 minutes of commercials, sometimes pushing the boundaries up to 12 in seasonal periods and prime time. Also the remainder of that hour is divided between DJs/ radio presenters talk, radio promotions/ Jingles / features/ competition etc...... so technically we're talking about maybe 30- 35 min of music if you're lucky per hour.. An interesting point to make is that "ALMOST" every commercial radio playlist has to have an equal rotation rule.. which means if you play a song or a band at a specific time.. the automation prevents that band/song to repeat itself within few days for it to give a chance to other similar artist in that Genre or category of music.. unless it is a charting song, which is of course by definition going to be promoted and played to death for weeks on 3- 4 times a day. There is a lot of bands out there fighting for radio play and Royalties... but with 20% per hour of Irish music (Meaning 2 songs most likely), and considering the amount of music,: modern or classics out there .... there is simply no money to be made by any Irish artist ... So to summarize, it is impossible, even for a legendary successful Artist, to make a substantial Royalty profit and make a descent living out of it. On an occasion "one of their classic song " that of which it was a hit, or is popular amongst listeners, might be played every now and then ... other than that.. unfortunately they are commercially doomed ..

Descubri este maravilloso grupo hace cuatro años en un viaje a Dublín. Desde entonces no he dejado de escucharlos y disfrutarlos. Hoy me entero de la muerte de Christy, que pena! RIP genio
Days after Christy died, my friend Ciaran Mallon died suddenly in his sleep. He was 36, but touched the lives of so many people He was Belfast's Spider-Man, a trade unionist, a father, a friend and overall a great human being.
An emotional day to say the least. Loved this man! He had such stage presence and knew how to entertain. Will miss the live performances especially Vicar St, Iveagh Gdns and listening to his life stories. Thanks for the music and memories. Farewell Irish Legend for you now know Irish legends never die!!
As I make this comment at 19.10 Irish time 13th of June 2023, Christy has just passed away from a long battle with cancer.. I was at this gig and so many Aslan concerts and he was the best frontman a band could of wished for, Gave me and my group of friends so many great nights out in Dublin.. I was fifteen working in the Royal Oak bar in Finglas, all the band drank there, so down to earth. We had Aslan watches, tshirts the lot-after EMI signed them up and they threw a party one day. One day my good friend and I were in Brussels Bar in Temple bar meeting my friends pen pal from Cork who was visiting Dublin. Aslan came on the radio and we were saying how we knew them and how they drank in our bar, Corky was thinking we were full of shit then Joe Jewel walks over all leathered up and like he just walked straight off a Depeche Mode album cover photo shoot, pats us on the back and buys us a round of drinks singing our praises. The good old days when life was simple. Thanks for the video.
Read Christy's autobiography last year (the best autobiography I've ever read) he went through so much and still was salt of the earth dubliner, a gent. RIP Christy, there will never be another voice like yours. Love this video, what stage presence and control he had over a audience 💙
Oh man christy your the singer the main man but yet you show and let the crowd feel or know that it's there song... That's why you are so special... The impact you have on your audience not many people can do that

The legend that is Christie has died about an hour ago, Ive seen so many of the bigger bands for want of better word but no one could match Christie gave me and my lot so many great nights out in Dublin
I echo all the previous comments-I had the good fortune to meet Christy after a gig in Clifden about four years ago-not knowing what to say, I truthfully told him that his cover of rock n roll suicide was my favourite song of his-he looked me in the eye (didn't know my name)and replied 'ya know mate, I honestly think that it was the only song that I completely nailed' ....clearly he 'nailed' dozens of tunes but it was a mark of his immense humility and self criticism.
What a brilliant singer Christy was !! was in dublin over from england and seen him live years ago in dublin will never forgot it!! thanks for a memorable night Christy may god bless you 🙏 you dublin legend 🇨🇮 🕯
I still cant believe he's gone, its so sad, rest in peace christy, thinking of all your family at this awful time,, your music will be around 4ever no doubt xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
When I moved back to Dublin in the 90’s having been gone for many years, my brother in law David brought me to see Aslan at the ‘noggin inn. I had never heard of them but was blown away by how good they were and by what a showman and brilliant singer Christy was! A fan for ever after that, and by the way, U2’s tribute to Aslan with their version of this song is also brilliant in a different way and has created a path for new fans around the world to discover Aslan’s music. RIP Christy!
You have not seen the last of them boys yet. Believe me, they are pure deadly Irishirish band. THEY ARE QUITE FAMOUS ACTUALLY. They helped me with the lockdown.
My 17 yr old son and his dad we're @ Vicar st 1999. And I first heard Aslan via Daniel singing Crazy world doing a crazy dance in the mirror. His dad Ian blasted Aslan on his car C D wen I visited them in Crumlin back then . I sadly lost them both in 2013/14. Tears come Every Time I hear Aslan
Thank you Aslan God Bless you for keeping them close to me via Your music . I'cant get over how many people never heard of Aslan or Christy here in the UK. Till they meet me . Aslan get me through and the hope to see them like Ian and Dan did in 1999. Thank you Aslan so so much

And in his book of punished love
You see his eyes, you see no surprise
Waiting for a lie that's true
Everybody hits you with this feeling
Nobody seems to understand
Yeah you stop, you look
You're searching for the meaning
(Wasting your life away)
These are the dreams of a sleeping father
And in his long lost days
He sees a child
He sees his eyes
Waiting for the price he's paid
These are the tears of a fallen idol
And in his smile of shattered love
You see his eyes
You see no surprise
You just see lights then realise
Everybody hits you with this feeling
Nobody seems to understand
Yeah you stop, you look
You're searching for the meaning
(Wasting your life away)
Oh here with you
There's no one here like you

Nobody seems to understand
Yeah you stop, you look

Everybody hits you with this feeling
Nobody seems to understand
Yeah you stop, you look

The legend that is Christie has died about an hour ago, Ive seen so many of the bigger bands for want of better word but no one could match Christie gave me and my lot so many great nights out in Dublin
Yes Christy, we will miss you, RIP Christy, one of Ireland's finest in heart and soul. Singer-songwriter, you had it all.
Rip christy love from cork 💕
The Awl Royal Oak in Finglas, or The Bottom Of The Hill , many a great night there ❤❤

RIP Christy, your music and voice got me through some of the roughest times in life. One of the best singers to come out of ireland
Rip man this is one of the best live performances i have seen he will be missed
people all ova the world should take heed of his words.......period.....
This is Ireland. God bless you Christy.
