My Mom's family had an expression that was a compliment when fixing something up.
"You could take sow's ear and make a silk purse". You definately made a silk purse out of the basement. Yes, there is more to do, but "WoW, what a difference"
It looks so much better! It is a nice cozy space for Maddie to play. And I am sure you enjoy going down there way more. You do such a great job of turning every space into a more livable space for the time being. Even if it isn't your final product, you make it better for now. This was such a great improvement! We also bought a fixer upper that had paneling in the basement family room/ playroom. We painted it all a light color and I love it so much now. No plans to remove the paneling ever. It’s so cozy to have some texture on the walls and it’s so much sturdier than drywall for boys playing down there. Totally consider keeping the paneling and just painting it.
I think the leftover brown looks great as an accent color in the room.
Wow the power of paint. Have you checked to see if there is drywall behind the paneling- they use to do that. Also they make cool panels for drop ceilings now- actually look great!
Such a great transformation! So inviting now.
Just a tip: I empty my bucket from my rug cleaner into the toilet bowl. I always feel its better than putting that nasty dirt and clumps of who knows what down my drain.

Hey girl!! We have a house in East Tennessee and our basements seem pretty much identical down to the gross carpet and wood paneling! We did the same thing you did while we await a big renovation. Such a transformation! Love it!!

What a big difference! I know originally you weren't planning to repaint the basement since it'd get remodeled eventually anyway but I'm so glad you ended up doing it. It doesn't matter if it's not "Pinterest worthy", as you said, it's a beautiful upgrade on a realistic budget/timeframe and makes a lovely space for your daughter to play. I remember another Home Design blog talking about "Phase 1" remodels where you just do a few budget/time friendly things to make a big change until you can get to the final makeover phase. It's always made me feel better about the things I've done since when I can't yet afford to do the full makeover. Good job! And doing it while 40 weeks pregnant with your second child....wow!!

Paint is our friend! Allison, I know you’ve already thought of this…but just in case you haven’t, consider moving your washer and dryer upstairs when you start your reno. Going up and down stairs with laundry gets exhausting, especially with how much dirty clothes kids add to the mix. Madeline is getting so big! Love her curls!

If you prime it first, usually dont have to use so much paint.
