I personally think it's that Woody's Roundup was a show made with marketing in mind. Lightyear was made to tell a story, and they just happened to have toys, like Alien. A Gen 1 My Little Pony doll would have the same mindset as Woody, while a Gen 4 or 5 one would have the same mindset as Buzz
I believe the more or less canonical, hinted at idea behind woody is that he's literally one of a kind. I think the other cowboy toys were out before, and mass produced to an extent. There's a bunch of Jesse's and a bunch of Pete's, but then the toymakers wanted to make a show, so they made Woody for it. Show didn't really pay off though, so they've never actually produced any toys for it, besides the ones that were still out there. That's why in TS2 Al is looking specifically for Woody. There's only one woody out there. I'm not sure where exactly I've seen this theory, but it did have some evidence behind it from what I remember. And it would also make sense, when woody was made there wasn't any narrative around him. It's very possible he wasn't even a "living" toy at the beginning, only when he somehow landed with Andy he became sentient but with no memory of anything.
There is a youtuber who was a friend of the creator of Toy Story and told a bout Andy's dads backstory. The story was the fact Woody was the only Woody Doll made and was promoted for a contest it was Andy's dad who won him and I think thats why he didn't know anything about his back story.
Toy Story 1: An overconfident leader toy gets overshadowed by a new toy, and he learns to become friends with said new toy. Toy Story 2: The (Now not overconfident) leader toy's kid broke him, and he has to choose to either live in a museum forever, or return to his kid fixed and be loved again. Toy Story 3: The leader toy's kid grew up, he needs to choose to either stay with him or move on to a new kid. Toy Story 4: _Insert angry Hades scream meme here._
What happened to Andy telling Bonnie to take care of Wood? In the 4th movie she forgets about him and he becomes a lost toy. So what if Andy is like ok imma go visit bonnie and see Woody but to find out she lost him! Like sure but what happened to the promise she made?
In regards to why Buzz freezes when humans are around in the first movie, I suggest watching GamingMagic13’s videos on Toy Story 4. There are five videos in total and I can’t remember which one he talks about why Buzz froze in front of humans in the first movie but I really recommend watching those videos.
I believe the official backstory for woody was that he was a one of a kind prototype made as a cereal box promotion and then the show and promo got canceled before the the toy could be mass manufactured and woody was given to Andy’s dad he would not know his backstory as he was made as the show was being canceled
The idea of a child's love wiping away the pre-implanted memories reminds me of a horror novel I read as a kid called Among The Dolls, in which how the main character of the book played with the dolls affected their personalities, and in turn the dolls were able to affect the personalities of the real people. [In case anyone is curious: The main character was going through some tough times, so the personalities she gave the dolls were negative and toxic, which in turn caused her own family to become the same. It worked out in the end though.] EDIT: Just came to the realization that between watching the Toy Story movies and reading that book as a kid is probably why I've always been respectful of my toys. O.o
I didn’t like when woody left i’m emotionally attached to him so when I saw the fourth one that ending really just ruined me and I felt like our friendship was dented and sometimes I have dreams where Woody is gone or just leaves me
i do like the idea that the boxes they come in is what give them and idea of what or who they are. like how buzz and the battlesaurs (from toy story time forgot) they literally have backstories on there boxes, where if woody.s would be so bare all its say his name and that's it, but i know the prospector's had the name of the showon it, so why wouldn't woody remember? i propose they like what SP says in the video, maybe over time woody simply forgot especially if he was from the 50s, an that plus if he was a specialty toy in packaging that had on his name and occupation on it (sheriff woody) then it stands to reason that he simply was just stock to believe that base info until he got played with, heck stinky pete was so aware that he knew he wasn't a dumb prospector until he found out of the show ( even jessie shown that she may have not known about it until al bought her) and if i want to go even further with this notion ,there's a scene right when buzz is interacting with the gang and they ask who made him and they respond accordingly (-playschool,mattel,etc) but buzz responds with his backstory on the box. but thats my take on this but obv its just a theory a toy theory A- ...... uhhhh anyway lol.
The theory of buzz being a battery operated toy with possibly even a chip and woody being a toy on a string is really the most likely option. Was there any indication of Woody being a toy before a show? Then that could imply Buzz was a show before a toy and saw his show being played on the shelf
If the "child love" theory is true, may i remember you of Monsters, Inc. ? if happiness is a so powerful energy, maybe it is their fuel ? this might also explain how Buzz is reinitialized: his batteries act as Joy Fuel tanks, and the demo mode cuts power. i'm just a mortal trying to add a stone to the already too big and unstable cairn, so it is probably flawfull; but hey! i didn't rewatch toy story 3 for nothing !
Woody probably doesn't remember his backstory because he's been a cowboy doll played with by Andy for so long he forgot who really is. Buzz when he comes out of the package for the first time in toy story 1 he awakens and starts to act like the real buzz lightyear because he was designed to think and be that way. A toy off the real guy I wouldn't be surprised if the real human buzz lightyear who's possibly an old man by this point in toy story universe, would come across the toy buzz, that would be shocking it's like looking at a younger picture of yourself years earlier on. Toy buzz & real human buzz meet for the first time. It's also possible there may have been potentially a real Shariff woody too at some point. But there's no Story for woody just yet. If they make a woody story they have to get Tom Hanks or Jim Hanks to voice woody in his spinoff. Maybe the real woody will be fitted to look like Tom Hanks in his spinoff . Possibly.
I wonder if the writing on the box gives them the base personality like Wood’s box writing on the back was simple didn’t say anything except for the sentence he could say and buzz’s box written a much more like a astronaut like, He is the Brave action hero Buzz Lightyear with his laser and wings he’ll protect the stars, or something like that.
It's probably mainly a life like lovely Sheriff Woody just isn't quite as easy to spot. He'd likely wonder stuff such as which side of the world did my life start on, What sorts of music do I like other than country style tunes, while also wondering what his hobbies were before being a stuffed toy especially with his cereal related statements. Maybe lovey Woody's life started like the Toucan of Fruit Loops named Toucan Sam............?? Plus the difference between puppets and a stuffed doll.
There is a video by a channel I really like where they interviewed a guy who was coworkers/friends with the director of Toy Story. And he tells the origin story of Woody and what happened to Andy's dad, the guy was told the story before the director died. Its really interesting look up Supercarlinbrothers Andy's dad. Give it a watch you won't regret it 😁😉
He was produced after the show when the show was cancelled because when Sputnik when up that’s why he doesn’t remember the show and also the reason why he doesn’t remember who he is is because he’s was kept in a box for years from the original owner and speaking about the original owner Andy wasn’t the original owner of Woody his Dad was

@kill commies Lightyear is an abomination

Remember, he actively knew what a very old fashioned record player was so yes Woody has been around for a long while.
*I like the theory that he was made before Woody's roundup*

Friend inside me
Deltarune moment

Same
Yes

i feel like because woody only has a voice box he doesnt remember while buzz is an electronic toy so it could be already in his system? my thought
I like the last idea the most honestly.

Woody forgot about the TV show because he is old.
He could be a fluke or special Woody, shouldn't be something every Woody know if he is one of many.
THIS THEORY MAKES SENSE!
Jessy 50 Years after being bought: THAT CRITTERS IN DANGER!
Makes Sense? I think not.
Well the woody on the show was a puppet, a toy as well. If he was aware of what he was, his counterparts would be too.
How has Pixar not made a Woody's Round-up show/movie. I'm sure they would do a movie but let Disney hand a show off to a different team.

Maybe he thought he was a real cowboy like buzz was
Makes me wonder if there will be a cowboy movie called woody, they did it with buzz, its woodys turn now!
Ducky and Bunny dont know their back story and are probably new.
YOU ARE A TOYYYY
I don't buy the idea that woody is one of a kind. There are way too many coincidences for that to be the case.
We actually do know the origins of the toys. You should search for toy story zero posted by TheSuperCarlinBrothers
Yeah I dont like toy story 4 either
Yay toy story 4 was bad I thought I was the only one look up the super Carlin brothers they tell you why the dad was
Obviously you've never heard the true story of Andy's Father: ruclips.net/video/bbmzuoBC1Rs/видео.html
The film is drugs.
I love these movies, but...sorry....you're really overthinking this.
Remember me.
