9:46 especially hurts cause Namie Amuro's discography disappearing was out of the blue in my opinion. A big problem with a lot of Japanese companies is there is rarely a digital footprint even today and they're so behind in gaining international exposure because of their copyright laws (at least some of the J-R&B artists I listen to), so you really have to keep a hold of those physical copies in comparison to most Western artists. I really hope Avex brings back her discography online though. Love the video btw!

City pop songs have had a greater international exposure within the past decade than within the time they were first made. Some of my favourite city pop songs, like Tube’s NATSU (1990) have gone online (but still are in cd releases as well) and currently are gaining hundreds of views every week, so I’m grateful.

Namie Amuro re-defined Japanese beauty standards and broke out of the "idol" mold. I will never listen to "Want Me, ""Big Boys Cry," "Wonder Touch," "You Are My Sunshine" or "Put Em Up," with the same energy again. Her retirement still remains a mystery and not having access to her music makes missing her unbearable.

janet jackson was supposed to release an album called 'black diamond' in 2020, and even announced a world tour alongside it. but no songs were ever released from it, and there have been no leaks from it in the four years since she announced it. there was a snippet of a song called 'luv i luv' used in her 2022 documentary series and she hinted at releasing new music last year while she was on tour but nothing ever got released either :/

Namie Amuro's case is highly controversial and complicated, according to my coworkers (all native Japanese speakers). Tl;dr - it's tricky due to business and personal decisions and possible influences from another situation. Long explanation: From her mother's murder in the late 1990s, how the Japanese press treated her, her divorce, and her contract-management issues all contributed to her retirement. My coworkers showed me an article from Sponichi Annex that claims contract issues caused the sudden pull; supposedly, some technical matters (remixes and "repeat songs") came into play. One colleague said BS to that claim; her record label's parent company had changed, and Amuro often cited her desire for privacy. The demand for her music is still here, especially with baseball players using her music. There is another, even more controversial case (basically a forced retirement) that could have some loose ties as both artists debuted in the same era, and both greatly impacted the J-pop industry. However, I haven’t seen many English-speaking RUclips channels covering last year's singer/actress case.
I’m 99.9999% sure ‘Everyone Knows That’ is actually a homemade demo created by Carl92 himself and he just posted it online for feedback. If you read Carl92’s post it sounds sus and kind of baity. The song’s too clean and too 80’s for me to actually believe it’s from the 1980’s. I believe it was probably made within the last 5 years.

I remember reading that article about the lost master cordings and almost crying. There is just no reason for a company that makes so much money to not have multiple backups of everything they have. Was it greed? Laziness? Arrogance? It's so heartbreaking.
UMG is simply downright neglectful of even its oldest music masters and simply doesn’t care about them at all. That makes it much more depressing than it sounds.
Great idea for a vídeo❤ I wish we had the original doll and the angels advocate albuns from Britney and Mariah. Oh and Mariah lost rock álbum was a cool surprise, haha. Sometimes the rare and unrelesead songs are even better than the ones who made the álbuns.
This reminded me of like 2021 when Spotify and Kakao (they’re like the UMG of Korean music) had a disagreement after Spotify opened Spotify Korea and Kakao just took off ALLLLLLLL Kpop releases in the blink of an eye. Like it’s crazy that none of this stuff is permanent
That situation did have a happy ending because they did come to an agreement and so all of the Kpop music that Kakao pulled is back up on Spotify. BUT. It was a wake up call (that most seem to have ignored still) about the impermanence of streaming.
this is such an interesting and important topic. with physical media disappearing archiving becomes more important than ever. luckily we have digital archives now with media archived from the 50, 60s, 70s and even older but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t also archive what we have out now just in case. it’s also crazy to think about how in the days of physical media you had artists release special exclusive bonus tracks for the japanese market and the only way to hear them was to actually buy the album. luckily ppl usually upload them nowadays but there are still songs that are region restricted on spotify and can only be streamed in certain countries. i’m guessing due to licensing issues?
Omgg yes Namie’s music getting pulled from streaming was so annoying and reminds me of how just a few years ago so much iconic jpop wasn’t available to stream
The kpop group Brown eyed girls has a song called Hush that's only available on streaming services. I just want to HAVE IT in my library because it's such a bad ass song but I can't find it in any english speaking store. I'd probably have to buy Korean itunes credits or something. So many of their albums are for sale, just let me have this one song 😭. Record labels are weird lol.
It’s vvvvv important to buy or own your music, physical media is very much needed not only for the sound but for the connection. The booklets or visuals given in CDs and Vinyl are my favorite ways to absorb the whole energy of the work with the sound
Everything we’re seeing play out in the film and TV industry is cascading over to music. It’s the exact same shit. The scarcity of physical copies. Films, shows and music being yanked from a streaming service at any time without notice. And the same way that Warner Bros. can scrap a film which had already been shot and was in the can, a record label to can shelve an album which was completed and had a publicised release date. And the latter is wild when it’s good albums getting shelved. What is the benefit of not releasing them, when you’ve already spent the money to make them and have already put singles out? Megan Rochell and Kiley Dean’s debuts getting shelved will never make sense to me, given how good those albums were. I think across the board, people are waking up to the realisation that there is a MASSIVE cost for the convenience of streaming. And that record labels and studios are not respecting TV, films and music as art forms. They see them purely as revenue streams which benefit CEOs and execs, but none of the people involved in the creation of the art itself. And that record labels will hold music ransom on a whim, with no regard for the artist or the audiences. It’s dire.
Bringing in some Kpop lost media. Wonder Girls English Album. We have live performances of some songs, like Stay Together, Ouch, and Wake Up, but they were never released. And JYP promised the English Album in 2009, and they never released it. It's even more nefarious in my opinion than the lost albums that were just scrapped or shelved by the label because they sold pre-orders way back in 2009, and then claimed the 2 Different Tears EP fulfilled those pre-orders, despite claiming if your pre-order would still be valid for the new English album. (I never pre-ordered, but I know people who did) I wonder if the English album would have featured The DJ Is Mine (without the School Gyrls, the version that ended up on Like This), and Like Money (ft. Akon) (or if the Wonder Girls only version would have been on the album, b/c they released the vocals & audio separately for a remix contest back in 2012, so a WGs only version must have existed (a fan mixed version does exist now). But, yeah. Also, the Jessica & Krystal sub-unit album that SM scrapped after Jessica left SNSD and then SM.
This is such an interesting topic! It is so sad that there are so many artists' music that will never be heard. Also, I had no idea all of Namie's music was pulled off of Spotify. I am hurt because Bad Habit is one of my favorite songs! They also pulled some of Crystal Kay's English songs off Spotify for some reason, too.

9:49 since we’re talking about lost media it’s his group called 4count that was made by Nick Cannon when he first took over to Nick and he had to show called teen Nick top 10 where he would show 10 music videos for the week and it was his boy band for Canadian boys from Canada and they made R&B music. I freaking loved that song that was the main song I knew by them because that was the only song ever played by them on teen top 10 and they even had a short-lived reality TV show that came out that summer showing them trying to really make it into the American market but they never got bigger and a few years ago the music video got deleted and every time I try to look for it it’s never on any social media and when I bring up the group, nobody knows them.

in relation to shelved media, i was really caught up in the lore surrounding ARTPOP and its promised second act. even though the initial act suffered a messy rollout and mixed reception, i wanted so badly to hear what else Gaga and her producers cooked up for that project as it was her most unapologetic offering of her career. i was surprised that the fans (and even producer DJ White Shadow) were still wanting Gaga to release act ii a decade later when Gaga herself was clearly traumatized after that album cycle.

One more thing. If it wasn't for the fact the original clip was uploaded in 2021, my first instinct (and I hate that it's my first instinct now) was to think the first song, the lost song TikToks currently obsessed with, was AI generated...

@@bethwood7091 yeah, also even if it’s out there- it’s still probably only this snippet. This doesn’t sound like there is a full song or a final cut. Very much a just a demo.
@@bethwood7091 The search for the song is only 3 years old (starting in 2021, mainly on reddit), for lost media that's not long at all. A different lost song that was recently discovered, called "how long will it take" was found after 17 years, with the search starting in 2006. It's really not uncommen
that's how i partially feel as well , part of me wants to think "oh that's cool , discovered media" and the other part of me is like "i feel like someone's trolling the entire internet just to see if they can"
@@rickG913 everyone knows that is actually known by its real name, Ulterior Motives, and it was made for an adult movie. The most famous Ulterior Motives snippet is the only one without mumbles and moans.
i'm still so upset about namie's music just disappearing. like no warning, just gone with no explanation. like girl managed to retire twice and it's not funny.
I didn’t realize how much I say “hello hello” because of you until it became one of my primary greetings 😂
lol it’s how I actually greet ppl so it kinda stuck 😭
I remember reading that article about the lost master cordings and almost crying. There is just no reason for a company that makes so much money to not have multiple backups of everything they have. Was it greed? Laziness? Arrogance? It's so heartbreaking.
UMG is simply downright neglectful of even its oldest music masters and simply doesn’t care about them at all. That makes it much more depressing than it sounds.
namie removing her WHOLE discography was very crazy and knowing her it probably won’t be back ever, luckily i have a google drive tho

Great idea for a vídeo❤
I wish we had the original doll and the angels advocate albuns from Britney and Mariah. Oh and Mariah lost rock álbum was a cool surprise, haha.
Sometimes the rare and unrelesead songs are even better than the ones who made the álbuns.
Original Doll seemed like such a cool concept from what she said… also I just looove that title
@@naomi.cannibal yes, me too. It's a cool title and something tells me it would have been a good álbum also.
BUT. It was a wake up call (that most seem to have ignored still) about the impermanence of streaming.
namie amuro's discography being wiped off the internet, hurts me the most. 😢
this is such an interesting and important topic. with physical media disappearing archiving becomes more important than ever. luckily we have digital archives now with media archived from the 50, 60s, 70s and even older but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t also archive what we have out now just in case. it’s also crazy to think about how in the days of physical media you had artists release special exclusive bonus tracks for the japanese market and the only way to hear them was to actually buy the album. luckily ppl usually upload them nowadays but there are still songs that are region restricted on spotify and can only be streamed in certain countries. i’m guessing due to licensing issues?
lost media spooks me so bad lol especially that first song
Sameee
Right? I don’t know why the first song always gave me an uneasy feeling
It’s dire.
Crazy your talking about Namie Amuro! Love her 🤍
this is why when artist go to recording they should ask copy of the "session file" that's basically a master recording
Yesss I wish you could do a series of lost media like Albums, music, tv shows. Shelved albums and or movies.
Love this video. Very interesting topic. Naomi is one of thee FEW creators who always hit the mark on content in terms of creativity, quality&topic matter.
Oooh this is the first I’m hearing!! Bout to be down a rabbit hole lol

My heart dropped when they took out Namie Amuro's songs from Spotify, she was still one of my top artists in 2019 😢
Need to track the physical albums now...
I do hope Britney at some point would actually make the Original Doll album, that if she ever comeback.
Since we talking about lost media Jesse McCartney was supposed to drop an album called “Have It All” that got shelved there’s a song on there called Mrs Mistake and whoever shelved that song will rue the day now you can hardly find anything about the song anymore 😭
Yesss I talk about it in my Hollywood Records vid!! Someone put most of the album in a RUclips playlist I linked on it
I had this one song on Spotify and it was such a bop. And out of the blue it was no longer available and when I looked for it on RUclips it was completely gone. I was in shambles. I only remember the melody of the chorus but it was so good I’m afraid I will lose whatever bit of memory I have of it. The song was released in 2022.
Subscribed for the Namie Amuro. We stan a diverse music palate.
JC Chasez from NSYNC was supposed to have a second album around like 2006 with songs co-written with Justin Timberlake and produced by Timbaland, but it got shelved. However, supposed songs from the album are available on RUclips
The album Demi Lovato was making prior to going back to rehab and coming them releasing DWTD…TAOSO haunts me to this day. She was heading into a more R&B/Pop route which is such a great fit for her voice. Some of the leaked songs are absolutely 🔥🔥🔥
Loyal, It’s All Good, This Means War, Who Do You Love which was released by another artist. Demi was really about to shut the girls down.

in relation to shelved media, i was really caught up in the lore surrounding ARTPOP and its promised second act. even though the initial act suffered a messy rollout and mixed reception, i wanted so badly to hear what else Gaga and her producers cooked up for that project as it was her most unapologetic offering of her career. i was surprised that the fans (and even producer DJ White Shadow) were still wanting Gaga to release act ii a decade later when Gaga herself was clearly traumatized after that album cycle.
yours is one of my favourite channels about music, interesting as always thank you
All of JoJos leaks from her unreleased and constantly re-recorded original 3rd album. If you ask me her Stan’s were definitely MADE during that era lol. I wish she would’ve never had so much time taken from her because her music is still so good to this day.

i’d love to hear your opinion on AI covers of songs. i’ve spent the last few weeks downloading unreleased songs by artists, particularly Juice WRLD, there are soooo many AI covers, sometimes it truly is hard to tell if their a real unreleased song or an AI cover and peoples opinions seem to be mixed on if AI covers should be played/uploaded (i’m against it)
i neeeeeeeeed to hear the full final studio recording of machine gun love by kesha, although she's performed it live numerous times on her warrior tour and it isn't technically lost the actual song has never leaked and it's probably one of her most wanted unreleased songs from her fans

Not music relared but the cartoon Final Space has been marked down as a tax writeoff, meaning it's gone from all platforms and will likely never be allowed to be released in any format again.
