    The ever-wonderful James Stacy in his pre-Lancer days and away from being a cowboy for a change. Love him!

    Randall Alexander: If you mean the single rod below the barrel, then that is the gas tube used to transmit pressure to a piston that, in combination with a spring, operates the action - for semi or full automatic fire. The two rods on the end of the barrel, as somebody else has mentioned, are the bipod, for barrel support on a surface.

    He may have Welshed on Kirby, but it ended up costing James Stacy an arm and a leg.

    That culvert at 4.35 shows up a lot in the Combat series.
    James Stacy as Farley - before his accident in 1973 in which he lost his left arm & leg. Married to Connie Stevens & later, Kin Darby.

    Did anyone notice the "markers" that Farley was writing on? POSTITS...they didn't have them in WWII. Also the cigarettes had filters on them; didn't have those in WWII either.

    • @robertdevlieg232

      Those weren't filters, they were corktips. Kept the cig from sticking to your lips. Kools were the first to use them.

    randy95023 - Absolutely, the Germans have a rich military history going back centuries. Unification of the warring Teutonic tribes developed a strong disciplined force over time that was far superior to any other European forces or to American forces at that time.

    What is that baby gun the lieutenant shoots? Is that a real gun in WWII or his that Rick Jason's hunting rifle?

    • @petehenry7878
      @petehenry7878 6 лет назад

      Yes, it's a real gun from WWII. That's an M1 Carbine, It's a little shorter and more compact than the M1 Garand rifle most of them carried. That's why it looks like a baby gun.
      Specifications M1 Carbine
      Weight 5.2 lb (2.4 kg) empty 5.8 lb (2.6 kg) loaded w/ sling
      Length 35.6 in (900 mm)
      Specifications M1 Garand
      Weight 9.5 lb (4.31 kg) to 11.6 lb (5.3 kg)
      Length 43.5 in (1,100 mm)
      Barrel length 24 in (609.6 mm)

      @stanford2444 5 лет назад

      @@petehenry7878 You missed that it is not the same caliber, the Carbine is not even a legal caliber for a deer hunt.

    Ah, look at the Germans today, as they still continue to "best" those around them. Maybe not in war right now, but economically they seem to be holding their own. They have the tenacity to survive though the most difficult of hard times, regardless if its in war or peace times.

      An Infantryman that served in Italy told me how they only got the cheapest nastiest smokes. The good brands Camel, Chesterfield, Lucky Strike, Pall mall were gone by the time they got their ration. Officers and supply guys got the rest.

      I read a factual account book called " S.A.S. With the Maquis " by Ian Wellsted , a New Zealander serving in the British S.A.S. who was in France prior to D.Day and he told of a ploy by the Germans to set up an ambush for the Resistance . The Germans put the word out that there was to be a convoy of trucks coming through town with loads of cigarettes on board for the troops . The Resistance got stung that day and narrowly escaped from a well planned ambush at a crossroads . It seems that cigarettes and tobacco were a big drawcard . I can recommend reading that book .

    "Combat!" is SUCH an American Show! We all like to remember our role in WW2 as a lot bigger than it was but our participation was essential to Allied victory. We make heroes out of our young men and always portray them as the best soldiers on the field. I don't mind that it's "propaganda" so long as the Good Guys win and we can cheer them on! Reality wasn't so pretty and I hope that our children don't REALLY glamorize war. The average German soldier was worth 3 of ours in actual combat.

      randy95023 Where do you get your ratio? 3:1? The guys i grew up with in the country could have been rangers and that was my generation. My dad’s generation was hard as steel. Maybe you saw a different class of people. .
