I think Vic Morrow did a great job on Combat, & my Dad used to watch it with us every Tuesday night. He was in the war also, but never talked about it. I think it was too painful for him to tell us kids about what he saw & had to do for the sake of freedom. I will always be greatful for our Vets. We should let them know that they are appreciated every time we see them in uniform.
7:11 Same set as in "9 Place Vendee" season 4 episode 9. Love how many different ways they utilize sets they have. They moved this one from France to England...wow!
Vic Morrow ( Sargent Sunders), muy querido y recordado en el Perú, lo mismo que Rick Jason, el Teniente; igualmente Cage, Kirby, Little John, el Doc. Lo daban por tv todos los miércoles a las 8 pm. "...jaque mate rey 2.., aquí torre blanca.... cambio...".
vdobob36 hmmm In terms of the badge, there are a lot of photos of it being worn for soldiers who have been involved in active combat (beginning around 1944 or late 43). There is also an EIB (Expert infantry badge but you cannot wear both at the same time... I want to personally know as to why in this case he should not be wearing it?(I know the answer I am just curious as to your thoughts!*I do ww2 reenactment.
Well as a military history nut the Sarge's uniform lacks the following: 1) No unit patch on the left shoulder 2) Service stripes/ overseas bars 3) Ribbons 4) I understand in WWII they didn't blouse boots unless in the Para's ( Paratroops) sign of office per say. Leg Infantry bloused their boots in class B uniforms but not class A's.
And the visor and strap on his service cap would have been brown not black. As for the Division patch, perhaps they thought it better to not have one rather than rile some Vets in the audience. Mind you, this was not more than 20 years after VE Day. Still, not as egregious as most of the mistakes I notice these days.
They really had the kids hold hands when they went any where, so the wouldn't get lost. (talking about the scene where they had to go to the air shelter.)
Its funny..The 5th season of Combat!! That mean s this squad has been fighting in France and Germany at least 3 1\2 years After the Victory in Europe and 3 after the entire war ended!! Maybe.its like that Japanese Soldier that hid in the angles for decades and when finally discovered they had to.fly his old commanding officer out in person, in uniform of the WW2.IJA before he would FINALLY believe that Japan had lost and surrendered and the war was over some 50, Fifty, years before!!! Even to get him to believe orders from his old commander took some big doing!! Crazy world!! Crazy people when you can successfully brainwash them.
mrtravdawg! I did notice the German Sniper sighting with an M 1 Garande not a Mauser. One more thing I have a problem with, maybe it's just Hollywood script, how can a front line Soldier during this time get a furlough and going all the way back to England; I can see Paris but London is another thing. This would be hard for a Officer let alone an enlisted Man. Military History buffs help me out with this.
I am getting to this conversation late but I thought I would give my two cents worth. as a veteran one of the perks I enjoyed most was the free air travel on any military aircraft. So, I will assume that with a week off a soldier would high tail it to the nearest front line airbase to hop an empty cargo plane back to England. Most likely a Douglas C-47 (Skytrain)
I am sorry,My Lord.I am only refering to my own sevice, including one tour of peace-keeping in Lebanon and 23 years with our Home Guard(or Territorials,as you may call it),15 of them as platoon-commander.I should, ofcourse, pointed out that snipers will use any platform,as long as it is not too conspicious,in cluding trees, but those I had assigned, would avoid them. The Japanese never had trained snipers, only"volunteers",who were bad shots, but still a menace. One of the best, was Finnish Simo Haÿhä.
7:20 Class A uniform and bloused Jump Boots... Only Paratroopers are allowed that privilege to this day. Oh what the hell... Sgt. Saunders more than qualifies the wearing of them... given the fact that he is about as close as you can get to having James Dean in a TV series. -Former Sgt. "ROCK" 82nd Abn. 1/504 71-74 8-3-16
+milky55way2012 That was Jon Walmsly who played Jason also the girl the teacher was talking to Cynthia was also in the Waltons she is Cindy Eilbacher she played Martha Rose.
Rare uniform mistake for "Combat!" The visor and strap on his service cap would have been brown, and being a "Leg" Soldier he would not have worn bloused boots.
Being a former paratrooper I can confirm that we were pretty merciless in pointing out our fellow soldiers as "legs" if they did not wear jump wings. At Fort Campbell, KY we had service clubs in the "airborne" sections of the base. Every once in a while we would "catch" a non-airborne soldier from the other side of the base in "our" club. They were "politely" asked to depart and to quit dressing like a paratrooper. OK, "politely" might have been stretching the truth a bit. In this episode Saunders has committed a "mortal sin" with the bloused boots. And worse, those are regular boots, not jump boots.
i noticed how british thier accents were. i mean. p-51's instead of messerchmits i can understand. the germans couldf get thier hands on one or somethin like that
Then try telling that to the snipers of the american British Germans and Japanese as well as modern day snipers who have and still do use trees! among many other firing platforms and firing steps! Funny thing is they clearly do not have your insight in to being a sniper!
Bad deal.Real snipers, that's specially trained, would never use a tree,as it is far too obvious, and nowhere to withdraw.Real snipers are trained in marksmanship, camouflage and stalking, and are extremly difficult to discover.Which makes counter-sniping one of the most demanding diciplines.Sharp-shooters were good marksmen, but had lttle or no sniper-training,so you should put your bets on how many soldiers Saunders shoots out of trees....

LOL. Vic Morrow would make me tremble and my knees buckle but in a good way. :)

I wish I had a dollar for every sniper Saunders knocked out of a tree with his Thompson.

Vic Morrow Chick - I’d go to my knees for him any time.
And, thank you for my first laugh of the day.@Mark Thompson
Vic is wearing a combat infantryman badge. It was bugging me so I mention it here in case others were wondering...

Ever notice that at least one member of the squad dies every episode. Sort of like being a Star Trek security guard.
Yup
No one got promoted after season 1 either 🤷🏻♂️
Cage Kirby and little John always stick around
The combat is great my husband and me always watched it.
300.00 American dollars was huge money in 1944.

Paul Picerni of Untouchables fame did not last long in his first and only appearance on Combat.
What a great show and what a great episode!
Anybody notice that looked like a M1 Garand that sniper was using? Also, kinda looked like a U.S. soldier.
I would love to meet someone like him...
That one other guy was Paul Percini was with Robert Stack on the series The Untouchables as one of the feds for 2 or 3 seasons.
I wonder if real ww2 soilders heard that music when they were walking?
That is a V1 'Buzz Bomb" At 15:00 A V2 would not make noise except when it blew up on impact.

Question. Why would you send one man "into the woods to check it out"
I am surprised that Vic is not wearing any fruit salad with his CIB?
+BigJon410 Probably there wasn't enough room for the 67 Purple Hearts Vic received...lol.
Agree - he has at least 2 rows of ribbons and medals including a sliver star with oak leaves.
7:17 Jason or Jim Bob of The Waltons.
Blackboard jungle!
GoldenWinger001 - Probably not, but if Saunders does it, its Sexy!
just after the start I began writing letters to Mr and mrs Williams and Mr and mrs Vincent...sorry to inform you of the death of...

Anybody notice the German was shooting an M1 Garande and not a Mauser? Oops!
I saw that!
Isn't that one young chick Alexandra Paul from Baywatch?
Air raid by 1944. No way. There was no German aircraft left
V1 and V2 rockets !
tell that the airforce who lost so many planes due to the Luftwaffe...
Sounded like v1 pulse jets
How come we don't ever see GI snipers hiding in tree!!!

Showww
Did non-paratrooper blouse their trousers over their boots in WW II?
GoldenWinger001 no! For some cllass b uniforms yeah but not for a's and he is wearing the wrong shoes for it I believe. Those are jump boots!
i noticed how british thier accents were. i mean. p-51's instead of messerchmits i can understand. the germans couldf get thier hands on one or somethin like that

NCO visor with black straps? Good grief
Someone goofed. Usually they are very meticulous when it comes to the uniforms and equipment.

Drinking a foamy lager beer in war time England. Not a chance!
why is that? did they ration beer?
Rafael Oda The British tend to drink reddish, non-foamy beer instead of lager.
