- Canon allows you to shoot in HEIF format and experiment with the new generation of HDR formats (HDR PQ). It's a great option, but one that's easy to overlook - which is a shame. Plus: it's possible to test everything without an HDR monitor. In this video, you'll find a tutorial on how to get started and explore new HDR worlds.

Thanks! I am glad you found the video useful! Best, Jan
I really appreciate this information bud; I have a canon eos r5 and I was trying to find solid information the difference between them thank you
Hello, I did not test this on R5, but I think it should be same/very similar...
Thanks for explaining this feature. I've always wondered about it. I noticed I can't use my custom profile picture. Now I'm wondering - is there any point in using this feature if I already have RAW? I like to use my JPEGs, so I can edit them too. That way, I get the best of both worlds. It would be nice if we could use custom picture profiles on HEIF as well.
Sadly. I am not able to open those files on my Samsung phone. Can you watch those files on iphone? Macbook? How about macbook pro XDR dispaly? I also shoot videos in PQ. And it preserves highlights much better. However, i have to recode it from PQ to PQ in davinci so that youtube can recognize HDR. That is weird.
Hi! Well, yes, opening HEIFs can be really tricky and generally, it is really mostly a tool to capture "real" HDR for viewing on HDR monitors... So its usage is limited - but still, I believe it is a very valuable format which will gain a lot of attention in the future...
Thanks
glad it helped! Jan
