The PayPal’s , L’Oréal’s , Apple, Amzs, Walmarts etc come to mind who had like investors.

As a consumer I always feel a sense of pride when purchasing a Black owned brand. I also feel comfort in knowing that the creators made the product specifically for US. I’m happy for her as an individual. But when Black owned companies get sold I’m always disappointed and a slightly worried about the product that I’ve grown accustomed to being altered for a wider demographic. And many times that’s exactly what happens.

Sounds like she saw a business opportunity with her hair products and went for it. She seems like she is more passionate about making business moves than she was about hair. This is a billion dollar industry that should be owned by black women. Years ago, I got excited about a few black celebs who had gotten together to branch out Carols Daughter. Jada Pinkett and others. I was hopeful this would be huge but it didnt materialize. The store front was in Los Angeles (Foxhills Mall) and was really nice but the products were over-priced. Of course it didnt last very long. I never understood why all these black celebs and politicians cant get together to have a chain of black hair salons+barber shops, hair products, beauty supply houses in every major city.

If The Mane Choice has fallen off, at least she sold the company first and got her money. But I wonder if she hadn’t sold, whether she could or would have made the company grow and expand.

After you get it appraised double the amount your head and never sell it. I'm going back to the mainstream haircare products I use to use before these black owned ones came out. I supported several of them, the formulas changed causing hair loss then had to search for another product. My hair grew so much when I used mane choice. When I was using it something changed for the worst. No more black products for me.

    • @4theLoveofCurls

Why are you painting with such a broad stroke? To say you won't buy any black-owned products is extreme. White companies sell and change formulas all the time. Heck, a change in formulation can come just because they want to cut costs. It's happening across all industries. I bet you'll soon find that the products you're going back to have changed also.

I called customer service and was told it may have the same ingredient list but the manufacturer can change the amount of an ingredient to cut cost so you may get a different result and it's legal 😢.
