- I wanted to show drummers how to enhance creativity by taking things away from their kit, rather than adding more. Even by making a mistake, like I did a few times in this unedited take, will lead you to new discoveries in songwriting. Enjoy and try this at home!

Cool, I don't know why the cymbals were used anyhow.
Queens of the Stone Age on the Songs for the Deaf album, didn't use cymbals on the first take. Cymbals were recorded on a separate track later on.
Excellent. I think the cymbal is the lowest-quality sound in rock music, except maybe a well-placed china hit. I have wondered what rock music would sound like played without cymbals.
That thought process is the exact thinking that brought me to this video. I can't stand cymbals, it sounds awful to me and I'm grateful it often is drowned out by guitars and singers, that there's other stimuli I can focus on to ignore it, if you will.
@@raheppe I think that is one of the reasons why I love alt-j
For his third solo album (nicknamed "Melt"), Peter Gabriel forbade his drummers (including Phil Collins) from using cymbals.
Much better than with cymbals. Can one use audio of your video on his personal videos as an intro?
i dont think anyone here is even a drummer. cymbals are incredibly important
Yeah, nah. You just think they are.
Ya, cause the people who purchase and listen to metal their whole life can't have an opinion. They are good for various readons, but not when it's so over bearing that you can't even hear the singer and guitars, which is alot in metal.
@@deaddoll1361 this drumming sounds terrible without cymbals. I can imagine listening to a whole record without them. Would be a nightmare!
@@gusplaer what are you talking about I saw your comment and listen to at least 10 songs by different metal bands and vocals are loud and clear!
@@SidWalter ten songs huh
That was awesome, my dude.
Almost sounds like some of In Da galivda
Are any of you commenting actually drummers? Cymbals are such an integral part of the art…a drummers cymbal work is what really sets him apart…
exactly
thats what im saying
They are an optional, not an essential part. If they were indispensable, there wouldn’t be classic tracks and even whole albums featuring drums but no cymbals. See any album that either Peter Gabriel or Kate Bush produced in the first half of the eighties for examples of entirely cymbal-less albums, or even old fifties rock and roll tracks like Buddy Holly’s “Peggy Sue”.
Cymbals are a crutch for a lot of drummers, and denying yourself the crutch forces a drummer to think outside the box.
Damn great chop
Tom drums make good beats. I recommend it.
On In The Air Tonight there's no cymbals!!!
Not true
lose the snare, what does it sound without that too?
someone made it sound shitty by adding steel under the drum, yes or no? i say yes
maybe it was amplification of the drum by some kind of electricity.
the steel under the drum, would that some how get plugged into the p.a.?
Cymbals are overrated ✌🏻
