Spirit, Duane, and Flex were integral parts of the show. Without them the show lost its flavor.
I agree the original gang left and it wasn't the same 😩💔
Agreed! I stopped watching after they left
@@jasminehill6312 I only watch the fifth season just to see Flex guest star but the season was so trash it wasn't the same. 😩
@@ARaebow it was so trash that it was funny 🤣😂 other than Flex I was getting a kick out of how bad it was
@@brandonbates9259 Right and the storyline between Breanna and Arnaz don't get me started. I am happy that Flex and Danielle character was still together and and engage I thought they was a cute couple and ready to settle down
You know a show is about to get cancelled when Ray J joins the cast
😂😂😂 yes
Every single freaking time😂
Lmaoooo
😂😂
When He Joined Moesha
After Spirit left One On One the soul of One On One left. It goes to show the impact certain characters can have on a show...Real talk or major real facts?
False. The show was going to bomb whether Spirit stayed or not. The show was going in a new direction and the new direction was bad.
Yeah, neither. I think the show should have ended prematurely during the CW transition rather than risk ratings.
@@cococolonel But that's the thing, she kind of has it a bit wrong, I'm afraid. The CW didn't start until Fall 2006. One on One ended in spring 2006. So they cut the show off (with a horrible cliffhanger by the way) before it could get on the CW.
@@Lightdion Had to doublecheck myself and that's true! I think Fall Primetime is far more demanding on ratings, so cutting their losses early in the year was probably the name of that game.
But man was it Moesha all over again with the cliffhanger cancellations :/
Yeah after they added the white people I stopped watching it
I am happy to say, this young lady appears to be a "Child Hood" Actress, who grew up with morals, and did not let fame dictate her real life. She also realized there was life after Hollywood, and how to move on in a positive manner

Spirit were the best part that's why after her an dwuane left it was garbage
She was a KEY element in One On One. Love Sicily
Spirit and Dwayne leaving One on One was like Eddie leaving NY Undercover leading to the new casts. Both shows got much whiter and the soul of what the show represented was gone and what a shock both was cancelled the next season
Exactly. You can't take all the essential flavors out the dish and replace them with some generic shit.
They do that to all of our shows
Eddie got set up. 😥
It still hurts.
NY Undercover 98 season was good. I liked how the two main detectives hooked up after his partner death. We finally found out what Tommy from Martin does for a living 🚔🚓🔵⚪🗽
@@kimmiet1980 Eddie set himself up. He demanded too much money
Man, I remember my cousin and I sitting in front of the TV on the first episode back in 2001. We had seen the commercials all summer and were excited to see teenage girls like us on TV. I can't believe it was so long ago. I went through middle school and high school with that show. Everybody used to talk about the episodes the next day in class lol.
I used to try to style my hair like Kyla's for school. I loved watching the show
@@relaxinginpeace1310 me too!!!
I miss UPN!! The CW really dropped the ball because the seasons after 4 was all over the place and don't make me get into the finale! 😔
I stopped watching for that reason. UPN was a good channel.
UPN really represented back in the day...and they weren't even subtle when it came to diversified programming..they moved to the WB, and got rid of the black-themed shows at same time..I don't think I have watched it since..
@@edreid7872 yea they used blk shoes to build the audience and said fuck em for the white audience
Why can’t you cry babies own your own channel?
Big facts pissed me off
Really great interview , I can tell she things about every word before she speaks , proud of her growth and wish her more blessings
Omg troyce I love your videos !!!! ♥️
Troyce !!!! ❤🫶🏽

I miss seeing her face on TV! I've always loved her and her style. I'm glad she's doing well ❤️
Her voice is so nostalgic ❤ Love her authenticity.
She’s really really amazing in person. We saw the first Black Panther together and chaperoned her daughters once. Her, her mom, her girls are really cool people
Removing her and Perine ruined the show IMO. Smh
When it stopped being One on One (When they took the adults of the show) really ended the show.
Flex too, he showed up a few times but he was gone most of the whole season.
Tbh the show could've still survived imo just like NY Undercover but you have to stay true to the essence of the show and to the core audience which both shows let's be real purposely ran away from
@@romegrey2600 False. You can't take away the characters that helped build the show and who the fans loved and think that the show will survive.
It wasn’t even the same show anymore
I remember the day One on One switched from Baltimore to California and I was a young child. I remember thinking to myself what’s this and I hope it goes back to the original soon😂I was devastated. Without Flex, Spirit, and Duane it didn’t do well not to mention breaking up Breanna and Arnaz was a hot mess considering they spent years chasing each other. The actors we awful, the original cast was on point and perfect.
I grew up in a church in LA and the cast of One on One would host our back to school night every year along with the little boy who played Amaud on Soul Food the series. Good times ❤️
I loved how she played Spirit. It makes so much sense why their relationship seemed so genuine aside from them being great actors.
The show rested on these 5 main characters, spirits character was brilliant and was well-casted. It’s the fact that her personality stuck out and allowed her character to grow but depicted the ideal of real friendship spirit, breanna, and arnaz was something that no other show will ever experience. Flex and Duane were practically brothers and somehow the relationships between all of them seemed so genuine 🥹
Just finished watching all the seasons on Netflix. The clothes, the music, the lingo...great memories. ♥️
Fully convinced that these networks are aware of how much ad revenue Black shows brings the networks but they use that money to create and fund other dry AF shows with no spirit (no pun intended). Then they find excuses to fire casts from Black shows or just find a way to end the show...think about it.
There hasn't been any shows even close to One On One since it got cancelled. The agenda is real.
That’s exactly what Hollywood did during the ‘70s with the Blaxploitation movies and actors. It’s literally the same cycle of Black art/artists being used and then abandoned.
im just curious what these Dry shows are cause its probably shows i watch lol not sure about the ad revenue thing tho

@@DannyTruthMagnified that’s cap cuz it happens to white shows as well
I always wondered why she didn't return for season 5..it wasn't the same without her anymore
Did her character go to another college? It didn't end like the Parkers. They graduate school and it was all over
@@jaykaynum5569 I hated the series finale of The Parkers.
@@kevinpayton2664 they had a nice run and a proper ending. Sitcoms like the Steve Harvey show just ended like that
Season 5 was a white wash literally and on top of everything else they added Ray J 🤦🏾♂️
She displayed a different type of Black girl on TV that always existed in real life.
The tone of the show definitely changed after Spirit was no longer there. Her character was definitely missed. 💫
I remember that shift...and I thought the addition of the white characters was so forced, I couldn't watch anymore.. It became an entirely different show, which had very little to do with the previous 4 seasons..it essentially became a new show, which I had no interest in seeing..
i dont even remember any White characters i just remember the season had ray j on it
@@TheJrockfreak After they got rid of Sicily and Flex, Kayla started college, I believe, and moved into an apartment with several white actors as roomies..The reason you don't remember them is because they were totally forgettable...extremely generic and boring..
@@edreid7872 oh ok. I'll have to go back and rewatch that season
@@TheJrockfreak Not even worth the time, you'll get why it was canceled soon after.

My teen age son loves to watch the show on netflix. I'm shocked because I thought he'd see it as old fashioned. I loved this show in high school when it aired on t.v. It was must watch t.v.
As someone who watched this show in its original run and on syndication and then on Netflix, I feel like Spirit was one of the key elements of the show's success. Knocking off most of the original cast to make way for another version or concept of the show was f****** up. Stuff like what they did to the original cast of One of One was a harbinger of what was to come for 1990s and early to mid 2000s era Black TV shows on UPN.
I basically grew with one on one 😢 a lot of us African American girls did I was 10 when it started and 15 when it ended 😢 I really wanted see Brianna finish college but …we all saw what happened and spirit was a big piece of the show 😊
Spirit leaving One on One was like when Toni left Girlfriend’s. Show just went down the drain😖
SPIRIT!!!!❤️❤️❤️ I still rewatch this show in my grown age and absolutely loved her character! Such a beautiful spunky loyal friend! Looking back the depiction of her in some episodes juxtaposed to Kyla's character was a little problematic and played to the tune of colorism, but her beauty shined through it all. So glad to see she's just a beautiful outside of the show! That blizzard❄️ cast that blew in during season 5 removed the soul of the show and was highly unnecessary when the show was still performing well with the original cast smh.
The last the season was definitely geared towards a different audience than the previous seasons. Which was a bold move for a established tv show, this is when they learned you can’t create a show for black people and then try to take it away just so you can reach a wider audience. They didn’t make the transition feel natural, Brianna could have at least been having week phone calls with spirit, they tried to make it seem like their relationship never happened.
There are some actors who think their only purpose on this earth is to be on TV or in movies and that's fine, but life is full of possibilities and nuances. I'm glad Sicily Sewell knew that there was more to life than One on One or the acting field.
Spirit and Dewayne brought so much life to the show. Taking the two of them off was a big mistake.
Loved her character on One on One & Mama Flora's Family ❤
One On One had all the cuties on there Lloyd, Mario, Omarion, Romeo, Common… I miss these days 😢
They did not need to gentrify the show the way that they did 🤦🏾♀️. Spirit definitely could’ve been Breanna’s roommate in college while studying fashion. I was so irritated that the producers/ creators said that they wanted to focus the show on Breanna & Arnaz’s relationship, instead of Breanna & her dad’s relationship, when that was what the whole show was based on in the first place 💁🏾♀️😑
One on One was my favourite. In the UK it was on cable. Spirit, Dwayne and Tanya were perfect for the show!!
I’m so glad she’s doing much better now
The character "Spirit" was probably the funniest of the crew. Her and Kyla were a hilarious duo☺️☺️☺️
Oh wait! Her, Kyla and Duane🤣
I can't believe this came out 7 days ago and I'm just seeing it. She sounds exactly how she did on the show. Thank u for bein the soul of the show foreal, 'One on One' just didn't feel right after she left
YOOOOOO THEY GOT SPIRIT ON HERE! She looks GOOD
Idgaf where she got "fired" from. Baby fine and, thick, and actually articulates herself well with some sense. Very rare these days. 💪🏾
They did Spirit, Duane and Flex WRONG!! All 4 of them (Kyla included) held that show together it wasn’t the same without the other 3
One on One was my shit…we had so many great sitcoms at one point
The 1990's thru the 2000's was a great time for black sitcoms.
Agreed. I also enjoyed watching The Bernie Mac show and My Wife and Kids during this time period.
Good shows never die! Glad to see she’s doing well ❤ she was my fav character ❤
Spirit Jones was one of my alt black girl sheroes…thanks for bringing her to life.
She was the heart and soul of one on one
this was just like smart guy one on one had a single father you don't never see that no more on TV
I’ve always LOOOVEEED Sicily because of Spirit. This was very insightful 💛
I stopped watching after she left. It was so painfully corny after lol
Spirit and Dwayne made the show.
Dwayne’s character was heavily underrated, he was hilarious..
I Loved Spirit!! She was a me deep inside in my heart!!
I loved spirit!!!!
A lot of changes were made in the new seasons. One thing I didn't like was Arnez becoming increasingly more "dumb" as time went on. Like it was a running joke that a lot of things went over his head in the older seasons, but when they had my man drawing a map with some crayons with Brandy's character, it felt peak dumb. Characters like Waldo from Family Matters, Eric from Boy Meets World, they all were protrayed as "dumb" for comic relief when beforehand they were signs of growing masculinity, if not toxic at times. That didn't need to mature into being presented as olfish.
Facts!!!!
Spirit was my favorite character on the show, loved her vibe and fashion 💙
She was fine asf on “One on one” I was picturing myself being her love interest on the show. 😂
What do you think of her now???
She looks like a lonely miserable aunty...
Aww how cute lol
For real man she was the finest girl on the shows. She's still cute though but way too over weight now. No go bro!! Lol
@@paulsharp7857 ??
In my opinion Spirit was the Spirit of One on One for me. I loved Breanna and Arnaz's connection but Spirit's humor made them the perfect 3 Amigos. I knew they had to be friends in real life because their chemistry as friends on the show was perfect! Flex and Duane were also funny! So they had the perfect cast, I think if the CW wasn't so racist, and simply allowed a bigger budget to add in extra cast this show would have lasted. But dropping the major fan favorites to add in white actors was so disrespectful to their brand. This was a black show and I would have preferred if it wasn't broken it didn't need to be fixed. If they had to cut Flex and Duane because they wanted to focus on Breanna, Arnaz and Spirit living life on their own as young adults, I would have said cool. Or make them recurring cast, but cutting Spirit was a huge mistake.
Spirit was everything to me growing up! I crushed so hard on her lol
❤️❤️❤️ that's cute ❤️ I just didn't like the fact that they didn't let her have the true teenage girl experience like they did for Brianna, and made Spirit so desperate at times. Then when she did find a dude, she'll become big headed and diss her friends. I don't like that they made her character like that, it really annoyed me.
Girl, I was sick to my stomach when they added Dorian to the cast 😮💨
what needs to be discussed is how spiritual her performance as young aisha Campbell (the second yellow ranger) was
No, that's Karan Ashley who played the second yellow ranger.💗

One On One….Forever A UPN Classic…..The First Four Seasons Of One On One were fantastic, but after Duane and spirit left, the show went down the drain and the CW did one on one very dirty….smh….thankfully one on one is on Pluto Tv and Netflix…..
They should have never fired her bruh cause she was funny & her character was unique!
'Oil rags by Spirit!' A gem 😂😂😂🔥

I loved this show and watched it each week. I had a crush on her. Everytime we have good black quality shows (especially during that period), the powers that be find a way to ruin it.

Sicily and I were besties in my head during her time on the show.
She aged well 😍😍😍 I don’t understand why they fired her. That’s stupid asf.
As a little black girl growing up I enjoyed One on One because it showed me characters that looked like me!
Yes, because I was that Black girl! 🙌🏾💜
They did the same thing with New York Undercover and they suffered the same fate!
Same thing with 227. That white boy ruined it!
There was also a large black teen audience watching Dawsons Creek.
As a kid, I just remember the theme song 🎶 I don't wanna wait for our lives to be overrrrr🎶
I loved Dawson's Creek
What people don’t understand or realize is when you start a tv show/series with an all black cast and it cross over to white audiences the biggest mistake that these shows make is when they try to bring in white characters. The comedy timing with the actors just don’t fit and the result is these shows go from being a hit to just being a flop.
@@AmiriHipHop a lot of people don’t realize it and that being white studio executives who control the money. They’ll take a chance and green light a black show and once they see the success of the show and the cross over appeal they’ll feel the need to stick some goofy ass white actors on set to give them work and off unemployment. I’m not a big fan of Tyler Perry but look at his movies and tv shows and how comedy was smooth and on point. But as soon as the white money controllers came and told him you have to start putting white faces in your the shows the show’s quality dropped.
@@AmiriHipHop I don’t know if you’re coming at me from an angry place but I’m just stating facts and I hope that you can open your eyes and see it from a different point of view. As a black man I just don’t find white comedy to be all that funny to me. Yes their shows will have a few funny moments but it’s not long lasting to where years later you can think back to an episode and still laugh at the show. Case in point, shows like good times. Sanford and son, a different world, Martin. This black comedy shows will last in memory for years because it was black comedy with an all black cast. Hope you have a very blessed Tuesday and don’t forget to eat all your grits.
Haha they put ONE white dude on the show and y’all act like they had a whole white cast. My ppl love playing victims 24/7, everything always white this and that. What “white comedy”???? y’all literally crying and making a big deal over one white person who comedy was overshadowed lol
@@CobugCobug And miss me with that all black comedy BS. Martin had white ppl, Cosby Show had white ppl, Fresh Prince had white ppl, Sanford and Son had white and Hispanic cast members, Different World started with a Tomei who’s not black. So many top black shows had white ppl or a white person in the cast what are you talking about? You literally making up false BS for a narrative lol. Even the shows you name wasn’t “all” black. Y’all just be exaggerating for no reason because y’all have slave mentalities where y’all can’t get white off the brain smh
