a crown of candy but it's just a piece of cake

- rejoice, calrotters! the calroy supercut is finally here!
i cant believe i actually made this. but here it is. one hour, thirty-eight minutes, and forty-three seconds of calroy content. i hope you all enjoy it !!
(i own nothing in this video! all footage is taken from season five of dimension 20, a crown of candy. subscribe to dropout to watch the full season + so much more!)
"Calroy is a rogue. He is a scoundrel. Which means that he was able to betray and deceive your family over the course of decades. It also means he is not proficient in constitution saving throws." Such an underrated line, both funny and oh so karmic.
The fact that we ALL had that revelation of "Holy shit, he is a CAKE. CAKE IS JUST SWEET BREAD" is so funny.
Oh, my revelation was “The cake is a lie!”
Holy shit the cake is a lie.
Underrated
Holy shit
HOLY SHIT
The worst thing about Calroy, perhaps, is how likeable he is in the beginning. The banter with Amethar, being an uncle figure to Jet and Ruby, being "protective" of the royal family in Comida. Brennan does such a good job of playing a two-faced piece of cake.
You can't help but like Calroy, and it makes the backstabbing in episode 9 all the more gutwrenching.
And final Justice all the more satisfying
The best thing about cake is the layers
This is why I can't say I've been "spoiled". Exactly this right here. Hear me out:
When I finally got around to watching Crown of Candy, the internet already told me who was going to die. I knew Lapin wasn't going to make it, I knew Jet wasn't going to make it. I knew who was going to betray them because everyone and their piglets were on the RUclips comments and Reddit threads talking about how much they hated that cake. I was not going into it blind.
So with that said, I could really only say it enhanced my experience, because I could SEE it. Brennan Lee Mulligan, the sick, beautiful bastard I could see him making Calroy Cruller likeable. I told myself, hey, this is the guy to hate!! The internet people already said so!!! And I just couldn't!
Fucking incredible. I realized nothing could spoil it at that point. Adam Conover himself couldn't ruin it. A Crown of Candy was simply just. that. good.
Belated pun recognition: Calroy's head / torso is a triangular. He literally has two faces
The best betrayals are when you get the party to like the traitor, trust the traitor, so when they stab them in the back, their reaction is less “I knew it!” and more “WTF?!”
That point where Cruller yells “we need a healer” and looks at Keradin. That evil piece of cake.
0l?.n m m
Holy sugar
And then when he kicks Keradin in the head once the daggers are revealed, it's not a "This is what you get for attacking my king," it's a "You idiot you had one job"
Nothing quite like everyone having a laugh over "Now the count can coup!" in hindsight.
Woooooof
THAT PIECE OF CAKE
In my own headcanon, this is why Operation Plinth happened. Revenge for this moment right here
Looking back, Cruller let his mask slip a few times. "I'm a man of many faces." Pretty sneaky, Brennan!
@@straebaseborn983 thats why i hated this season, not because i diddnt enjoy it but it made me hate Brennan with a burning passion
"A True Coup is what a Count can do against a King and Queen"
foreshadowing...
And that is why Brendad Lee Momigan is one of the best story tellers on the planet.
One day, I want to hear Morgan Freeman narrating Brendad Lee Momigan narrating Morgan Freeman's life. Just to see if the universe can handle it.
Wow Brennan being so smart in silly foreshadowing
Enough with the coup-ing and the who-ing!
I noticed this recently an I screamed
i always forget how fucking brutal that betrayal scene is, and then how brutal yet sweet amethar cutting him in fucking half is
I feel like “brutal yet sweet” is the tag line for this campaign
@@bodenking and a damn good family motto
@@bodenking You know what they say in sweetness there is strength😂😂
I can feel how bad Lou wants to bring down calroy when he says what's the last part of my title?' this whole series is just such good role playing
There is no greater feeling than what he does right after.
"He leaps at you."
"Great."
For a barbarian, that's gotta be one of the best kinds of moments.
You can't make a weapon like Payment Day with a very specific ability on a nat 20 and then expect it to not have a very narratively satisfying moment where that ability gets used.
Ok we all know that Brennan is an incredible actor but his acting as calroy really just feels like it’s on a whole other level
You could say it really takes the cake
@@zashonfire Get out
@@zashonfire come back in, that was fire
I wonder how different the endgame of this would be had they all agreed for Calroy to be a applicant for Emperor.
Or Plumbeline. It blows my mind that they nearly turned an antagonist into an ally in a split decision. Cruller would have had to make some major moves to account for that.
I think that would have fully shut Brennan down for a while. Just to rewrite his campaign.
I don't think it would have been too different. I imagine if Calroy had become applicant that Brennan would let the PCs discover his crimes and murders at some point.
Brennan let his unsleeping city campaign be derailed hed just rework the villains for this
@@twilightprotige6166 how did he? What happened?
God there’s just something so likeable about Calroy.
There were several times leading up to “The Monologue™️” where I honestly said “Well Calroy seems like the obvious choice for being emperor.”
Honestly I think he's the most universally hated villain in Dimension 20. There's just something about traitors that really gets to you. Even historically betrayal is near universally seen as one of the greatest crimes one can commit. It's so personal.
The worst part about betrayal is, it's never your enemy that does it.
by hated for me I would say LOVED. Love a great villain
After seeing a supercut of Amathar basically asking Calroy to do his job for him, you start to understand why you might want to stab a guy in the back after a couple decades of it.
Yeah, it definitely came into focus here 😅
1:38:07 I still can't believe they made this off hand joke about shitting in trenches into a hard as fuck thing.
As a DM, I feel like I could never receive an item like Payment Day, where it specifies such a power and not immediately know someone is already expected to bounce their check.
Yeah if my DM ever game me something like Payment day I'd immediately go "oh you're gunna kill my entire family aren't you"
I am pretty sure its purpose was tied more to his sisters and their killers directly not specifically any of the characters
A lot of people think that "A true coup is what a count can do," is foreshadowing, but that doesn't exactly track, at least not in the sense that I think a lot of people mean for it to. Calroy is a Marquis--but Liam is a Count, and that's who Calroy points at directly when he delivers the line. I think he was trying to sew discord there, but had to give up because Liam is just too oblivious for the PCs to think of him as a danger.
A marquis is a count. Its just the french equivalent.
Liam is a prince, not a count, he holds no power, land or wealth because he is a prisoner in castle candy. However, liam could actually have couped if he wished, as candia is split 50/50 between support for amethar and support for joren.
@@sethbennett617 But that's beside the point, which is that I think Calroy was intending to sew discord between Liam and the others using the title that Liam is formally referred to in the setting.
@@sethbennett617 Liam is a count though, his official title was the Count of Freesieberg.
@@aglazeddoughnut5250 at the very start of the season he is a count within amethars kingdom, but a prince within joren jawbreakers domain. After the excommunication, joren becomes king of candia, so liam is a prince.
amethar is "king" of candia, to everyone outside of candia, but joren holds all the power. He holds the favour of most candians.
@@sethbennett617 you are so correct but it is worth noting that at the time of the quote none of that had happened and Liam was just a count
I love Lou saying "whats the last part of my title?" Like he's rehearsed this before. Because Amethar definitely knew how he wanted this to go.
1:12:24 ‘i’m a man of many faces’ ‘and that’s what i love about you’ oof that one hits
There's so many "made the exact rught decision" moments in CoC, could you imagine if Amethar had left Calroy at Castle Candy? Alone with Caramelinda? Holy shit the danger was on before they even left
Wow I just realized he tried to make sure they didn't nominate another person from a different country to kind of create an allyship of anykind. Kind of pushed them to isolate.
Did anybody take as long as I did to figure out that "Calroy" is a play on "calorie"?
Also the realm is called Calorum
Comida is also a mispronunciation of the Spanish word for food, pronounced ‘co-mee-da’.
@@TeroTheShortOne It is however the portuguese word.
Should not have read that while taking a drink of water
I was today years old
God, Lou's rolls were so poetic at the end.
He’s got the favour of the dice gods
It gets higher and higher until it reach crescendo. It's just 🤌🤌
Here's a fun drinking game for people who have seen all of ACoC. Every time a cake says something that makes you uncomfortable, take a shot.
"We must be ruthless" cut to culler grinning, clearly over his own ruthlessness. What a savage cake.
He really was a little manipulator throughout the whole thing, wasn't he. Also his discontent with being Amathar's assistant is subtle but very present :')
1:12:24 's "I'm a man of many faces" is one of those huge foreshadowing moments in hindsight that makes me love BLeeM all the more
Cake really is the best spy for a land of bread trying to infiltrate candy. Cake is like candy bread.
1:00:51 "Emperor Preston, your highness. Remember titles," is one of my favorite lines in the series.
1:33:44 don't mind me just putting it so i know when this cake gets sliced
1:32:42 commenting so I can mark “CARAMELLLLINDAAAAA”
Scared and horny 😂❤
sooo creepy
It's weird how the big bads went out like punks in this campaign. Cruller died cowering before Amethar and Cumulous, The Pontifex was one shot by a Liam's sneak attack. The only one who put up any sort of fight was Kerridan Deeproot.
DON'T MESS WITH CANDIA!
He lost his faith… a knight of the church lost his faith!!!
It’s a political thriller, so I think the strongest players would be the smartest and most charismatic, not the strongest
I mean he died fighting right after cowering
Love him or hate him (though the latter is more likely), you must admit, he had some fancy pants.
I remember Calroy saying he maybe shouldn’t go with the arrest party 50:30
seemed weird and I suspected him for half an episode but Brennan was just too good and I forgot again before the reveal. Lol.
I remember being worried for Cal after the Cathedral fight. I was too relieved to see him safe to question how he was safe when we next saw him
Now this video really.... Takes The Cake.
You are a God amongst regular people my guy 🤣
YYYYYEEEEEAAAAHHHH
That's what's so great about Dimension 20. The best villian in the whole thing, and he's a big piece of cake in great pants.
1:24:31 Just the start of a fun scene right after the show ended with them getting back to the castle and meeting their caughdrop friend
Super fun and normal
"I'm a man of many faces, I need to be able to go where the wind takes me" fuuck
I finally finished watching this campaign and I immediately started it over again because I live for pain
So glad to know that Caramelinda wasn't working with Cruller all that time and that she was just kinda mean.
Feeling so invested about a piece of cake reminds me of when I cried very hard over the story of a wizard named after a very popular Mexican good item and meme in the early 2000s
...my first thought was Taako, but then I realised the timing didn't fit.
Nope your spot on, I just have no concept of time
Nope your spot on, I just have no concept of time
1:24:14 - The Ramparts
1:33:23 - of all the good qualities of King Amethar, perhaps his greatest is that he's very difficult to kill. just an all-time line from theobald.
1:33:38 - the final battle
Thank!
Do yourself a favour. Don't watch this unless you've finished the epic series.
So true calroy supercut so true
I thought i was being paranoid when he offered to stay back and when he said he should be the one talking to other officials from other countries. But i was right which i am not to happy about tbh.
He’s within five feet of an ally ooof too bad Amathar wasn’t the ally
1:36:54 the thing that would have made this perfect is if Brennan would have made him roll the damage, given the exact same speech and then, almost as an aside, "oh yeah, and you absolutely destroyed him on the damage"
21:02 is quite the pointed line in hindsight.
1:24:11 you know what this timestamp is for, have fun, and if you wanna skip right to it, 1:28:06
I was really hoping when I watched it the first time that lou would have said
"For my sister... For my daughter... (and I bring it down.) For Candia..."
i don’t know, i think it fits. amethar was never a good king. one could argue he was never a good father or brother, either, but what lou elected to say felt more honest to the character’s motivations. his best quality is Arguably how much he loves his family
@@mediocrio mhm, just feels like a cool line to me is all, cinematic, but possibly not great for character. Tho just because someone is bad at ruling, doesnt mean they dont care about their people enough to think of them that way as well.
@@athena1491 oh it wouldve been Extremely cool i agree. i just think this moment in particular didnt call for it, because it Felt like amethar was settling a profoundly personal score. the subversion of the whole,,, rule of three thing felt SO appropriate as well to a leader who's worn down to his core, exhausted all internal resources, and Largely just wants this done
@@mediocrio very valid, mhmhmhm, i love it as is, its such a good moment
… yes count calroy a count can coup.
“War Pants” leaving it at thta
"It's not time to cut the cake until it's time to cut the cake".
ACOC will always be my favorite D20 series
This deserves more views.
seren thank you for your service monarch
I wonder what Calroy said to Grissini in Ceresian...
Damn. Man of many faces.
2021's looking better already
Calroy’s true colors are how a good DM handles a traitor.
I do think Cal wasn't necessarily going to play out the betrayal but had it in his back pocket. He's very improvisational, much like the DM.
It's a talking piece of cake
what a good person, i sure do hope he doesn't do anything to betray the party
26:27 Cal being a “good” uncle
"What's the last part of my title."
Was the most badass shit in all of Dimension 20 so far.
wait wtf this is 1 and a half hours of ACOC.
There was a lot of cake
I don't remember if they said Calroy was a rogue expressly before the turn, but if not, I think Brennan made a point to give them hints in that first combat with how many times Calroy took a bonus action dash. I didn't catch that until hearing all his turns back to back to back
1:15:06 that was *R A W*
SO TRUE SEREN
That bonus action to dash during the Sucrosi Road fight should have been the first clue he was a rogue
"Say the last part of my title."
When Ruby is talking to the Rabbit, I wonder what the music is?
17:28 what is the name of this song? It’s amazing!
It's Nocturnal Waltz by Johannes Bornlöf! 🎶
