I came back to watch this clip because as an aro ace I don't think anything has ever resonated more strongly with my fears and insecurities than that one line
I had to pause it bc I started crying so hard. Riz's whole journey this season was so reminiscent of high school me and then Brennan brought out that absolute gut punch of a line.
The first time I watched that I was bawling and I still tear up now.

As an aro-ace person who never was someone's best friend but always second or third place, I'm used to it at this point.
As much this hurts, in the same vein it's actually not true at all.
Whilst the majority people might find a partner in some way, there's still a large part of the people who would want a relationship of some kind who never do. And that would apply to those who want to be someone's most important in a platonic way too, right?
I personally hope that more people find people who they can feel great with, and the more open and okay it is to be "different"; as "normal" changes, the more it might be possible for people to forge the connections that they truly want, which means, that being someone's most important, as aro-ace hopefully won't be a hopeless thing, for those who do want that.
I'm also of the disagreement that people need or even do place their loved ones in hierarchies like that. There's very few situations where healthy communication won't ensure a small group of people are someone's first priority, shared.

I’m asexual and I’m sooo in love with Ris as a character even though I know he’s not canonically asexual (I don’t think) I think he represents what a lot of aces fear. I relate to riz so much as an aro/ace person but I have no idea if he was confirmed to be ace or not. I know siobhan was asked if her character was ace and her answer was basically "eh, maybe. Teenagers are too young to know if their ace or not." which honestly...girl, just say no.
If anyone's confused, asexuality just means you don't experience sexual attraction. If you're a teenager and you've noticed sexual attraction isn't something you experience it's OK to use that label. It doesn't matter if later on you do begin to experience sexual attraction. Sexuality is a spectrum and it doesn't make the label less valid if how you experience sexuality changes.
I believe brennan in one of the seven's adventuring parties confirmed that riz is asexual
I don't think she worded it great but her answer was basically, "Adaine has way too much trauma and too few examples of healthy relationships to have any idea if she wants that or not. She'll figure it out eventually." Cause Adaine could be ace, or she could be terrified of ending up in a marriage like her parents. She's still sorting that out for herself.

But she definitely said adaine was too young to know if she's ace or not because it's something that might change as an adult, or something along those lines. Which implies that teens can't know their own sexuality (but only if their ace apparently)
The thing is, adaine doesn't need to label her sexuality, if she isn't sure which seems to fit for her character thats completely valid. But the implication that because she's a teen she can't be ace when Kristen can know she's a lesbian was a really terrible part of her answer.

Again, I agree with you that the word choice was not good so I’m not trying to invalidate how upset you are. I’m just hesitant to ascribe bad faith to what she said given the context of who she seems to be as a person. It seems like she had the right idea but slipped up when she was actually trying to put it in words. I’ve done that before, except I wasn’t being filmed for a large audience. I love Riz so much, he might be my favorite bad kid and the fact that he might be canonical aroace makes me very happy because there’s not that many of them in media.
I’m just asexual so I’m not aromantic, but I do appreciate Riz. He just values friendship more than romance. I don’t know if that will change and that’s OK he’s still figuring things out. Junior Year for him hasn’t changed much in that department but the Riz story is so good so far regardless
