    OK. After watching the video of you guys camping in sub freezing temps and not having enough fuel and not being prepared as you should have been { this was the first video I met you two} I thought you should have stayed home.; NOW, after watching several more of your videos. I am addicted to the two of you. You are a cute couple and I am very happy for you both. If my wife would go along with me I would sell the house in a heartbeat and do the same as you two. As Roy and Dale would say, Happy Trails to you.

      🤣Daniel, this is our favorite comment of the week no doubt! Yes, we wondered if we shouldn't have stayed home after the Texas freeze too, but we're in love with our crazy Airstream life. Now, the real question here, is how do we help you convince the Missus to dive in? ❤️

      @Wanderlocal  2 года назад

      Brandon, that's what everyone says. We originally opted for the CAT generators because we were tying to find a manufacturer that was at least based out of the US or assembled in the US - unlike Honda or Yamaha. BUT, it seems the Honda's are the crowd favorite! It's quite the dilemma. 😬We hear so many good things about the Honda. L+D

    Wife and I have a 2022 model on order just like yours - same color and all. It will come with Lithium Batteries and a compressor refrigerator, which will prevent us from using propane when driving down the road (which I never cared for). Only difference is we decided to go with the twin bed model this time as this is our new 2nd Airstream to buy we wanted the additional storage twin models offer. You will soon learn how to boondock. There is nothing like it once you experience it. I hope to meet you guys on the road in the future. Stay safe!

    Just a tip from my construction days and generators..if you have room for plywood the size of your gen…you can block much of the noise back into the gen if you just lean the plywood against the gen. Be careful of the exhaust/muffler though. No fires.

      Mike, you are so right! We have 270W of solar already, but this thing is a power hog - or maybe that's just us! 🤣 Between working online full-time and filming for RUclips we consume a lot of power. We're starting to look into alternative options of powering this rig. Others have recommend lithium, tons more solar, and a 3K watt inverter. Still researching, so if you have any recommendations please let us know. We're learning as we go. Thank you so much for following along. Lauren + Daniel

    I just upgraded to three BattleBorn batteries in our 2020 Classic 30’ and they have been a game changer. There was a sarcastic comment asking if you knew your heater was 12V, maybe that person should do a little research as Airstream Classics have a boiler system. As you know this system not only heats the trailer but heats your water. The system uses propane to heat the glycol and a 12V pump to circulate the glycol and heat the space and the system is awesome. With the boiler system and all the electronics the Classic does need extra power and the factory AGM’s just don’t cut it.
    They also mentioned that led acid batteries are amazing and lithium has nothing to do with battery storage. I started off with two BattleBorn batteries and which store the energy of 5 AGM deep cycle batteries, charge 4 times quicker and after 10 years of depleting you batteries and fully charging them EVERY day, the batteries will still provide 80 percent of the capacity when the batteries were new. In other words lithium will last 20 years.
    If you do decide to switch to lithium you will not have any regrets and with a couple more upgrades you will live like you are plugged into land power while living off your batteries.

    • @Wanderlocal
      @Wanderlocal  3 года назад

      Happy Campers, thank you so much for this comment. We're basically running a media company out of this rig, so that's only adding to the load. We definitely need to see what it would take to upgrade our system.
      What size inverter did you end up going with? We're thinking 3K would do the trick?
      We would ❤️❤️❤️ to live life upplugged! After all, the best views are usually not in a crowded campground.

    • @user-jx2rj8tz6m
      @user-jx2rj8tz6m 3 года назад

      3k inverter sounds good but where would it be placed since it is bigger and won't fit in the original spot. Unless you remove the drawer. Also, where is the extra storage for the lithium batteries? Under the bed, under the sofa? I saw the dry campers channel put some under the sofa but I'm not sure if the sofa had reclining seats on that older 30' classic. Would 6 or 8 batteries fit? Looking forward to your video on this.

    • @happycampers.1837
      @happycampers.1837 3 года назад

      @@Wanderlocal currently still using the factory 1000. But phase 3 would be adding a 2000 Victron inverter. I have no plans on running the air conditioner so a 2000 watt inverter would run the convection microwave, a hair dryer ( obviously not simultaneously)and mainly the refer while driving down the road. But who know maybe I will get the 3000. It is so nice not worrying about my batteries anymore :)

    • @happycampers.1837
      @happycampers.1837 3 года назад

      @@user-jx2rj8tz6m the 3000 watt inverter would fit below the center cushion and you could get four BattleBorn batteries, two under each cushion. Also where the current inverter is I think you could squeeze a 3000 watt inverter in there.

    Sounds like you had a blast! I keep a spray bottle with soapy water to spray the dishes and just use the sponge to scrape them cleaned before “washing” them. Baby wipes can work but a sponge is reusable = less trash 👍🏻. You will love a solar system. No need for generators. We had a basic system in our previous camper and are getting a lithium system installed in a couple of weeks on our new AS. Dry campers is doing the install.

    • @Wanderlocal
      @Wanderlocal  3 года назад

      Hi Rebeca! We had soooo much fun, and can't wait to do more dry camping. This AS comes w/ 270W, but that doesn't seem to be enough to charge these two AGM batteries on this Classic. Our energy consumption is probably just too high. We're definitely interested in upgrading the solar, inverter, and adding lithium! We're in the 'research' phase now. Thanks for watching! Just a FYI, USE inexpensive shut off valves on your hoses at the inlet fill end so you can turn the water off quickly. Also, rinse out using your built in sprayer to clean out any build up in your black water holding tank…spray until water runs mostly clear. Which using a clear elbow at your black outlet helps.

    You can build a sound proofing box for the generator. There’s really no way around a generator if you use it for AC (especially on an airstream due to roof real estate).

      We ended up filling ~ 35-40% of the gray tank, but we only showered twice (super quick) and are out a few times, so it would probably have filled much quicker if we cooked the two nights we went out. But, overall I think we could have easily gone another 3 days or so - comfortably.

    I spent a summer working at a historic site that had a campground with no hookups.
    At night I left my trailer plugged into my truck to use the two batteries on the truck and the one on the trailer to power my indoor lighting and my 12 volt TV and my 12 volt fan blowing on me All night Long during a record heat wave and stayed very comfortable.
    During the day I drove around the lake to go to work at the historic site and drive back in the evening and plug the trailer into the truck again. That short 5 minute drive each way was enough to recharge my batteries for the night.
    No noisy generator, no shore power, no solar panels. And I had power to spare.

    I don't have an Airstream yet but I do know from watching a lot of other channels that people seem to use the same stuff for upgrades to their solar power on an RV. 1. Replace the batteries / add additional batteries by a company that is called Battle Born Batteries. Just Google them. 2. You will need to upgrade the inverter from 1000 watts to 2000 watts (or more) but most videos I have watched switch to a 2000 watt inverter. 3. You will need to add additional solar panels on the Airstream roof. It's something best to have installed somewhere but some people know how to do that on their own. But I have seen Airstreams, 5th wheels, and large motor coach vehicles who have talked about upgrading the solar, inverter, and using the Battle Born Batteries. Must be a pretty good system since I have seen several RUclips channels do that to their RV.

More panels seems like a must have as well! Thanks for your tips. 🙏

    We have 4 100ah battle born lithium batteries, charged by 1200w solar (or shore power), ran through 2 80amp charge controllers. DON’T GET RID OF YOUR GENERATORS. Lithium batteries (or batteries in general) can only get you so far. ESPECIALLY when heating and cooling. Not even battle borns can heat and cool without damaging the $1k each batteries. Don’t believe the hype. Lithium is not the end-all-be-all.

      Bob, we do have solar - but our Airstream Classic is a POWER HOG. The solar does great during the day, but once the sun goes down, we really need more than the stock batteries to be able to maintain the kind of power we need for daily functioning.

    We currently have 900 amps of lithium but then it becomes a challenge to get away from everyone with a generator.

      Hi EarthRoaming! Unfortunately, that park at the end (probably what you’re talking about) was closed temporarily. We’re not sure if it was Covid-related, maintenance, or other. Unless, it’s something else. We drove the entire road there. Great spot!!!
      Oh, we are 100% on the lithium train now! We’re doing the research now. We’d love to dump these generators sooner rather than later.

      Rock, that is a solid question! 🤣 We agree, we’d be bored out of our minds too. This particular spot is only 15-20 minutes to downtown Sedona. Most people at these campsites were gone during the day either exploring downtown, or hiking somewhere nearby. Also, the couple next to us invited us on their Polaris, and that was an entire days adventure. So much fun! There’s also pink Jeep tours nearby. Oh, and at night a bunch of the people in our circle gathered around a campfire to share stories and make s’mores for the kids. We’re not the sitting still type, so we get it! 🤣 L+D

      @@Wanderlocal oh well that’s a different story. I didn’t watch the whole thing and I pictured it like those people and I have a zone out in the desert with nothing around. How about solar, I see people that have like four lithium batteries and a bunch of solar panels and they can run their air conditioner off of it for eight hours. Also I like the idea of compost toilet so you don’t need to dump and you could probably use the black tank and replace it with a water tank and you can just dump the gray water, it’s not really dirty toxic or anything. With the solar you won’t need a generator and you’ll have extra room for more water and you won’t have to deal with black tanks anymore

    So you’re running filtered water through a dirty hose, pushing mold spores into your freshwater tank….interesting?

    • @Wanderlocal
      @Wanderlocal  3 года назад

      Harry, do you hook up your filter at the RV vs the spigot?

    • @harryduncan6699
      @harryduncan6699 3 года назад

      @@Wanderlocal my goal is to keep as much foreign material out of my tank. On my past Jayco and Casita I had access to the fresh water tanks. I put deck access plates on them to clean them, after I saw the mold growing on the tops of them. Found when I just ran Clorox water through them it would kill the mold, which would eventually fall off and be floating in the tank. So we never drink from the freshwater tank, But, I did start filtering the water years ago. Here is the hook up…..faucet, regulator, zero G hose, filter, 90 degree fitting, trailer inlet. The goal is to keep the tank as clean as possible.
      We’re picking up a new Oliver from the factory July 1…the freshwater tank is hidden between the base layers, so no access. We ordered the Oliver July 17th last year. During the past year I’ve spent hundreds of hours watching RV RUclips channels which has been fascinating. In my other life you might say I was a paid problem solver. The key is using what you know to solve what you don’t know. Anyway I’m making some changes….faucet, adjustable regulator, 25 ft. Zero-G, sediment filter, .1 micron white filter, 45 degree fitting, then freshwater inlet. We’ll get our drinking water through a Travel size Berkey. Periodically I’ll siphon Clorox water through the hose to cut down on contaminates, although it doesn’t really effect the system. More important would be run some water through the faucet before hooking up, to help from clogging the sediment filter. Another suggestion is get a small spray bottle and fill it with rubbing alcohol to spray anything you want disinfected….faucet threads, gloves, sewer attachments…etc. that way you don’t have to worry about damage from bleach getting on clothes, shoes, or anything else it might damage.
      We’ve been RVing for 35 years. My dad let us use their motorhome for our honeymoon across the South. The Wife, who had never camped, fell in love with it, and we’ve been camping or cruising ever since.

      Hi Roger! Hope you're doing well this week. We though the generators we purchased were supposed to be the quietest (made for use at National Parks), but we know so little about generators. Here are the specs on the two that we have - www.amazon.com/dp/B077338B8F?ref=exp_wanderlocal_dp_vv_d Would the Honda's have been quieter? Either way, we're looking at options to power this thing without any generators. That's the plan, at least! 😀 Lauren + Daniel
