😂 yes we have an RV as well. We live in Houston, and since we didn’t have power, we stayed in our RV for a few days. Does your Airstream have a propane furnace? If so, you should be able to run it in the winter with just one of your generators. This will save set up time and fuel. I ran the RV for 3 days off our Honda 2000i generator and a extended run fuel tank non stop. Thermostat set at 68 and it used 2 20lb tanks of propane.
I really appreciate how you two go into this thing with zero ego and are open to explore and learn. As a new rv owner ourselves we can identify with a lot of these challenges. Really enjoying your channel.
@The Getaway Gang, thank y'all! This comment makes our hearts very happy. ❤️ We love our Airstream, but, you're right, there is so much to learn about RVing! Are you all traveling full-time too?
Thanks, momplusfive! When we set out on this adventure we promised ourselves that we would publish everything that happened to us - the good, the bad, and the outright crazy! Glad you're enjoying the videos. ❤️ Lauren + Daniel
You guys have the one thing that you need to be a successful RVer...a sense of humor...if you can laugh at yourself when things are going wrong ,then your half way to finding the solution!!!.😎❤🇺🇲
Thank you so much, Brad! We figured year ago, that if we let every little thing bother us, we’d never make it anywhere - and we have been to some pretty cool and desolate places on earth! One of these days, we’ll move up from newbie status. Until then, y’all are going to see us do some pretty crazy stuff! 🤣🤣 Lauren + Daniel
@@Wanderlocal Lol, I know the feeling! I lived full time in an RV and had to find many hidden switches. I'm thinking about going back to full timing and considering an Airstream Classic. So your videos have been very helpful in feeling out what that might be like. I did get to see some alligators on my last trip to Florida and got some impressive pictures... none slept under my coach ;-) But we did see the underbellies of some frogs while they were climbing on the outside of the windows. That was unexpected and very interesting for my girlfriend with a PhD in biology.
That’s fantastic! Yes, you’d love the Classic. We just came back from an RV Shopping experience with another RUclipsr and the difference in quality is definitely a differentiator. Of course the price matches it, but we figure it’ll still be around in another 10+ years versus some of our friends campers that are already falling apart. I guess you could swap them out every x number of years, but there’s something cool about keeping the same one across all of your journeys! Hope you enjoyed Florida! Were actually here ourselves for a big RV show in Tampa next week.
Great attitude. You only do by doing. Give everything a go. I try to research before I do things but if not research when doing, RUclips I find helps in many things.
Kevin, that's out motto as well! We did watch a RUclips video from CAT on how to set these up, but, sometimes you just have to dig in and give it a shot! 🙌 Thanks for catching this episode. We hope you enjoyed it. Lauren + Daniel
OMG i laughed so hard when you figured out it was the switch LMAO. I almost woke the kids i laughed so hard. Thats me right there, one tiny thing I overlook and my husband finds it and BOOM its fixed.
Sophia, isn’t that so real. It feels like we’re always figuring out one more tiny thing in camping that can throw the whole thing off. 🤣 Oh well though, all part of the adventure, right? 🤣
With warm generators, turn the knob to run. Start, is choked, only needed when first time starting or very cold. Those fuses are 12 volt and would have nothing to do with your Outlets. Remember you have two electrical systems, 120 volt AC and 12 volt DC. Nice setup, I would consider getting a ground stake hooked to your generators for safety.
greenwoodr83, that makes perfect sense! 🙈 I (Daniel) would have never thought of that. Thanks for the tip. I’m definitely going to do that the next time. 🙏
Great video! We will be taking possession of our 30' Classic first week in April. I have two Champion generators still in the box and after watching Daniel, I will have them fueled and ready to go before we head out. Congrats on your soon to be baby boy!
🥳 CONGRATULATIONS EDDIE MURPHY🥳 You are our winner for the Equal-I-zer OnTarget Giveaway. When you have a chance, please email us your name & address to hello@wanderlocal.com! Enjoy the prize, and thanks for being a loyal subscriber. Lauren + Daniel
hi chicos it super your videos thank you for this beautiful time with you i love you G bless you for ever stay safe please. Plus i learn with you about generator
@Cesar rosario, Thank you! ❤️ We're glad you were able to learn with us about generators through our experience too. We're so happy we know how to work these things now!
@Lynda Labine, 🤣maybe you are right, but either way it was WAY too many steps. 🤣 There was definitely a point while shooting this video that we were getting nervous that we weren't going to figure it out - so we're glad it worked out in the end. We appreciate your support. ❤️
@kurt schulmeyer, no need to apologize at all. The fact that it was this difficult to figure this out was ridiculous and totally comical. We're just thankful we finally figured it out. 🤣
@Luke-Dakota Massey, it was so nice to meet you yesterday! Thankfully when we got back we had power so got a restful nights sleep. Looks like we’re in for more crazy wind again today though! 🤷♀️ Texas weather be crazy!
@Jess Ness awe yay! We’re glad y’all enjoyed it. We loved all the wildlife too. The Louisiana bayou is amazing! And, Daniel is obviously very silly. 😜😍
What gorgeous boondocking site in the bayou! Joel would not want to stay there as we would be worried about snakes the whole time.. forget the alligators lol Thanks- Chasing RV Sunshine 🌞Joel, Deb & 🐕 Maya
James, you are so right! We were THAT close to the water. We even asked the owner of the property if we should be worried about rising tides. He assured us it remains 'relatively' constant - which was comforting! 😬Lauren + Daniel
Thanks @JD! Sometimes when I’m (Lauren) editing these, I’ll show D the footage and be like “should we really share this with the world? We look crazy,” and he’ll just laugh and say “sure, why not?” 🤣
FightinAggieFarmer, it was easily our favorite spot so far! Waking up to water on three sides of us. 😍😍 If you have an RV or camper, we HIGHLY recommend this place! Also, even if you’re just looking for a great bayou tour, they were super knowledgeable! Thanks for watching. Lauren + Daniel
12volt and 110volt are separate systems. Shore power is 110 and your battery is 12v. Shore power charges your batteries. The inverter changes 12v to 110 so your batteries will run 110 outlets and appliances for a short period of time.
Ah, that makes perfect sense! Thanks for the explanation, Joshua. We still have a lot to learn when it comes to the electrical systems on this thing. Great comment, and thanks for watching! Lauren + Daniel
The switch is important because both generators should be running, warmed (i.e. choke off), and all cables connected BEFORE turning the switch on (or breaker) and delivering power to the trailer. This ensures proper voltage (240vac) to the trailer w/ no sparking/arcing. For example, you don't want the Air Cond to experience the generators starting separately (since Air Cond needs 240 and generators are 120 individually ). Think about when you connect shore power at full hookups. Breaker should be open, plug everything in, then turn breaker on. Same when using generator. Also, the trailer's inverter is connected to battery and generates AC power for outlets (as labelled) and other AC loads (but not Air Cond). The shore power (i.e. generator in this example) powers the AC outlets (not labelled inverter), powers the converter (i.e. battery charger) and Air Cond. The solar is connected to a charge controller that also ties into the batteries (for both charging the batteries which in turn can power the inverter .....solar creating AC). Nice videos, keep up the adventures and learning. Just be careful around 240 VAC and engines :)
Ok...Pro tip....the "start position" on that generator is actually choke. Once it has been running and is all warned up, if you have to shut it down and restart it to say add fuel or change the oil....just turn it to run or the green dot to restart.
SNeal5966 - Super pro tip! 🙌 I (Daniel) hadn't even considered just trying to switch it to start after they were already warmed up. There have definitely been a lot of lightbulb moments while reading through these comments. Thanks for sharing!
You’re funny. I will make sure to memorize your 47 step process. I appreciate you sharing your painful learning curve. I have not purchased my rv yet and am trying to learn what not to do or what to do when I do get one. Keep on doing your thing.
Hi Yolanda! Thanks for watching. We just recently heard of Jackery. Very cool product! That would have been very handy to have. Thanks for the recommendation. Lauren + Daniel
Watching your videos gets me frustrated lol. It is interesting seeing others go through the growing pains of learning new things. As I watched I kept thinking of different things that could have been the problem with the outlets. Fuses, GFI outlet tripped, etc. It is funny you found a switch on the box. That will be good to use. Start the generator first and then turn the switch to on. The only thing I can really add is that the generators most likely didn't start while switched to the choke or start position because they were already warmed up. They should start just fine in the on/run position when they are already warm. You probably figured that out by now though. Edit...looks like others may have the same idea on the choke/start position.
arcadebrat - true story, on tomorrow’s video I (this is Daniel) completely forgot about that switch until reading your comment just now. 🤦🏻♂️ RV life is definitely a continuous leaning journey. Make sure to watch this coming episode we shot in Sedona. I love learning new tips and tricks from the comments. We joke that the comments are what’s keeping us alive! 🤣 Otherwise, we would have made so many more mistakes.
James, it was even closer than it looked! There were times throughout the night where I (Daniel) even checked with my flashlight to make sure we weren't under water. 😂 The owner assured us it wouldn't happen - but you can never be too careful!
As a brand new RV weekend warrior, I love learning all the things not to do when we get out in our rig 😂 I thought I was bad at handy man stuff, but you have me beat 🤣
@Paul Jones, this comment made us laugh out loud. 🤣 It's so true. We are the epitome of city kids go camping, but we loved our travel lifestyle too much not to figure out how to make the RV learning curve when the pandemic happened. What kind of RV are y'all in?
@@Wanderlocal We're a family of 3 and dog in New England - picked up a 30' travel trailer bunk house for weekend adventures - so no need to figure out generators for a while (although now I know how, thanks!)
You need a dog bone adapter that allows to you to go from 20amp to 30amp. That way you can run just one at a time or a 20amp to 50amp depending on your rig.
Guy, I (Daniel) am literally going to pick one up this weekend! Thanks for the tip. We have a 50amp, so I guess it'll be a 20 amp to 50 amp that we need.
@@Wanderlocal Yes a 20 to 50 amp adapter, with your extension cord, will allow one generator to connect directly to your RV without the box that you were using with both generators.
Jeff, that's exactly who we had as our guide! He was so nice, and super knowledgeable. ❤️ He said his friends called him Google. We agree! We also hung out with the owner. They were both genuinely good people and we had such a great time! Lauren + Daniel
Generator's are great when thay go...a major pain when thay don't...I'm thinking that you genies were up to operating temperature when you turned them off...so when you rebooted and restarted them the "3" position on the switch (which is actually the choke) wasn't needed, just try to start it on "2"...hopefully it works!!!.🤞🙏😎❤🇺🇲
Here's a pro tip....don't wait for a power outage to run them. You should run them whether you need it or not every couple of months. Keep them exercised and maintained and keep the gas fresh. Then you'll be able to count on it running when you need it.
Bigger batteries are the way to go, even if you don't have more panels on your roof to charge them. That way you ONLY have to run the generator to recharge the battery for a short period of time, once/day or every other day. We have a lithium 300 amp hour that can last us a few days using conservatively. There is nothing worse than having RV neighbors who run generators for hours and hours on end, especially boondocking. You boondock to get away from noise, be in nature. And fyi as I understand it... "Boondocking" is more off grid in more remote locations. "Dry camping" is when you don't have hookups but are more urban camping or at established campgrounds. But either way, no generators all the time. Good luck out there!
If your outlets don’t work, they could be connected to a GFI outlet usually in bathroom or kitchen area. Of course there could be other problems too. Also you might want to run your generators on the econo mode, it slows the rpm’s down and used less fuel. If you don’t need to run your A/C you can use only one generator (you need a 20 to 30 amp adaptor) for that. That should run everything except the A/C
Bernard, that's a GREAT tip! I (Daniel) wasn't sure if things would still run on econo mode, but you can guarantee that we'll be using that setting the next time we fire up these generators! Also, another great tip on just using one generator. Thank you so much for the info. 🙏
I really appreciate you guys going through all this, it is helping me decide if I want to try this life or not. I’ve decided if you can do it I can do it….no offense intended. 😂. Fred in Texas. P.S. My background is in computers also, for 30 years. If I see a fat Alligator with a keyboard sticking out of his mouth I will know who he ate…good luck guys.
I think I found your parallel kit- its 30A 120V output. You said you had a 50A input on your airstream- in that case all 120V appliances will work, but not 240V appliances (if any, they would be double-wide breakers in your AC panel) without an autoformer. You may or may not have an autoformer installed (would have come from airstream if so), if your air conditioners worked I'd think everything should work. Did you experience any devices not working in the rig on generator power?
Thanks for the follow-up, Scott! All of our appliances worked, but we were afraid to try them all in fear it would trip the breaker. We heard you can run one AC on the generators, but two may be too much power. We also were afraid to use the microwave because of some gossip we heard at a previous campground. I (Daniel) also looked at the breaker box, but the only double breaker was the main 50A. The rest were all smaller, single breakers.
@@Wanderlocal Sounds like you don't have 240V stuff in there- just 120V. Everything should work. The microwave can use around 10A. What you don't want is for your combined consumption to exceed 30A, I'd run either the AC or the Microwave but maybe not both if you wanted to be super safe. Worst case scenario I believe the generators will just shut down from overdraw, so you have some room to experiment.
Scott, you’re the best! Thank you so much for this feedback. That is exactly what we’ll start doing. I literally don’t know where we’d be without people like you. I’m hoping other new RVers will begin watching our channel to learn from our mistakes...I mean, challenges. 😉
@@mikoserbousek4987 there are no 240 volt systems in most all RV’s. A 50 amp plug for an RV is only supplying 2 - 120 volt circuits in split phase, one phase powers half of the breaker panel with 120 volts and the second phase powers the other half of breaker panel.
@@bmgm37 Yeah, I understand how the 50A service is wired. I just don't want to assume that there are no 240V devices (which use both 120V legs) without actually asking/checking. I believe our 5th wheel trailer is the same as you describe, I don't know if that (50A yet no 240V for AC/etc) is common throughout the industry or not. There is always the potential for an outlier. We live in a bus conversion, we have 240V for the mini split(s) and washer/dryer.
For onion fumes put a wet paper towel next to the cutting board. The acid in the onion is attracted to moisture and will go to the paper towel before your eyes. :) Loving the videos, we get our 25FB in May. Next time yall are in BUDA TX say hi 😄
Thank you guys for the video. Been watching now for a few weeks. Love it!! Question for Daniel. In this episode, did you have to use the 4x4 on the truck to get through the muddy path when backing up into the camp site? As a follow up do you find your trucks 4x4 feature useful and/or required for towing your trailer. Thank you in advance for any feedback you can provide. Till next time.
Hi New Energy! Even though we have the 4x4 feature, we've only had to ever use it once and it wasn't here in the Bayou. If fact, the land was relatively level on that peninsula. The only tricky part was backing it in at an angle - but it's not that difficult. Just make sure to take your time. Previously, while in Missouri, we stayed at a campground where the ground wasn't level and I (Daniel) was trying to back it in on a hill. The truck and the tires were slipping in the mud. At that point, I switched it over to 4x4 and was easily able to back it in safely. Besides that one instance, we've never used it. Thanks for watching!
Shalon, thank you so much for watching! We love living in our Airstream, despite all the crazy it often brings along with it. As for the generators, YES! I (Lauren) think they are miserably distracting when it's time for bed. We just did a week of boondocking out in Sedona and I've never wanted lithium batteries more in my life after listening to the generator run all night. It's sooo annoying!
Hi Sue! Great question. We're using two Cat generators with a parallel kit. I'll include the links below with the specs. I believe their each 2000W for a combined 4000W as needed. If we had to go back and do it again, we may have opted for a dual-fuel generator. I'm not sure which brand we'd go with, but we received lots of recommendations. That way, we could run on both gas and propane. CAT Generator - www.amazon.com/dp/B077338B8F?ref=exp_wanderlocal_dp_vv_d CAT Parallel Kit - www.amazon.com/dp/B077DCSSLW?ref=exp_wanderlocal_dp_vv_d
@@Wanderlocal thanks for the info. We've got the champion dual fuel 3500. No complaints... Had it for last three years with no issues and we've only run it on propane, except for an initial trial run to make sure it worked on gas. Highly recommend. Keeping in mind, running only at around 3200 on gas, 2880 watts on propane, continuous. I'm sure you'd also have the same drop in continuous running specs on yours. We thought we might get more with the two separate units... Why I was asking. Either way, still have to manage power we're using, especially when opting to use air conditioner. Safe travels!
Just watched this episode, Daniel, way to hang in there young man, those generators look pretty straight forward but its always the details that get us! Lauren, thanks for cooking the food, that was a nice touch since you're in bayou and that spot was perfect. Dud any gators visited your airstream?
Thanks, cmvprod! You're correct. It's always the little things. And, in this case, a tiny little switch in particular. 🤣 No gators, but we were not going to take any chances. Every morning we did recon with the small camera - just to be safe! We know they're not aggressive by nature, but we wouldn't want to step on one. 😬
Hi Michelle! I (Daniel) ❤️ these shoes! While they don't specifically make this color for women, all you'd have to do is go down a size and a half from a men's size. For instance, if you wear a size 8 in women's, you'd buy a 6.5 in men's. Little known fact - I worked for a shoe store while in college. 😉 Here's a link to this specific shoe on many different websites - bit.ly/3u5FD7p They do make a women's specific version here - www.nike.com/t/pegasus-trail-2-womens-trail-running-shoe-JNVF2M
Hi guys, noticed than on your trips you are learning some hard lessons, we all have! But also if you are ever in the Albuquerque area please hit me up I can help modify both your truck and trailer for an easier survival situations and make life a little more enjoyable. And if not in the area call me I can walk you through. Stay safe and enjoy life 🙏
Luis, you are amazing! We're planning on coming back to Albuquerque later this year and will be certain to reach back out. We'd ❤️ to modify our vehicles for more rugged conditions! Be sure to follow along and comment often. We appreciate getting to know everyone personally! Also, feel free to reach out to us at hello@wanderlocal.com Lauren + Daniel
@ArizonaBabaBooey, we're working with a couple of different companies now to try to fix our phone and internet problems. It's complex though. Do you have a system that you use and love?
Right On, you 2 are cracking me up, you'll have more stuff/junk before you know it, we left home, went to Moab and then to California where will decide we needed a camper shell 🙄 so we got stuff and some how more stuff. I have a chain and lock for my generator, don't worry, you already know more than our friend we go camping with, they've been going for about 20 plus years...lol ttul, working on a 3000w inverter set up 😉
Dave, my friend, you literally just had me laughing out loud! I (Daniel) had to share this one with Lauren. That’s literally my story right now. Every day, more stuff gets added. Those truck toppers are clutch. We’ve seen a few with the sliding trays in the bed too. So nice. I think at some point we’re going to lose our ‘minimalists’ tag and just be called hoarders! 🤣🤣
@@Wanderlocal well, I started out with a cover but, it's in the shed, now if your from the west. Most people call them camper shells, back here they call them toppers, let me tell you, it's made it easier to inventory lol stuff and if you ever Boondock in the woods, you'll be glad you have one, gators on the bottom bears on top lol...
@@Wanderlocal ruclips.net/video/n8RUKmPSeps/видео.html this is us, we own the big lot across the street from our house, just had the driveway done last year for the trailer, and learning to use a dji mini drone 😊
The answer may be in another video, but what was the decision behind buying two smaller generators, opposed to just one larger? You guys are great, btw!
@Josh Contreras, we wanted 2000 watts of power due to our Airstream being a 50 amp. We wanted to get inverter generators because they are approved for state parks. When we looked at these, they were so big, that our truck bed cover wouldn't close with them in there. In going with two, we could get smaller generators and they fit in the bed of the truck. 💪Do you use one larger generator?
@Ed Royer, I have no idea how this hasn't come up in our research before. I (Lauren) will be digging into this today. Huge thanks for the suggestion. We're open to just about anything at this point. Internet has been the most annoying thing about living on the road in remote places. 💪
@Greg Priddy, we know, right? 🤣 We're pretty proud of ourselves. 🤣 We officially have two 5-gallon metal cans - one for diesel and one for gas - that we are traveling with in the back of our truck. We'll show off these beautiful babies in one of the next videos. 💪
Right?!?! ⌨️ That makes me feel much better. I may not know my way around a generator, but I have cracked the code of this whole (poor internet while camping) conundrum. Future video coming soon. 😉
We’re already signed up and on the list! 🤞At this point, we’ve gone through every other option and have something that should work for us until Star Link rolls out. I should have a ~50mb down solution next week with unlimited bandwidth that doesn’t rely on our phones or this Airstream Connect.
@@Wanderlocal Very respectable number for out and about. At first starlink won't be mobile but Elon stated they will roll that out for RV's, Campers etc eventually.
Just seaux yeaux kneaux sha, Cajun for so you know, alligators do not hibernate but they create a gator hole and go there in the winter time. They don't come out until the temps come back up to around the 70 degree mark. There is no way an alligator is going to come out to sleep under your rv. The funniest part was you jumping out of the rv in flip flops.
im wanting a generator but fear wont work or wont run ac, have on board gen for most stuff but AC the gamechanger plus the room. would only do propane so les punch. thanjks for vid, need to make first boondocking good or wife wont like and o already bought the RV cash lol
Judi, do you know what’s less manly?! Fumbling around with a generator because I (Daniel) didn’t read that manual! 🤣🤣 Guaranteed, the next time I’ll read it from cover to cover. 🙌 Thanks for watching!
Hi Laurie! We were finally able to solve the internet conundrum ourselves. Our uptime is 99.9% and we have unlimited bandwidth now. It's been a game changer for us. 😀 We covered some of the basics in a live stream titled "working remote" but have a dedicated video coming out soon with even more details! You'll have to check it out when it launches. In the meantime, I'll check out Changing Lanes to see what their setup looks like. Thanks for watching. Lauren + Daniel
I think it took me several days of staring at the diagrams and watching RUclips videos before I understood the electrical systems in an RV. It's hard knowing what systems are 12V, what ones are 120V and how things all interconnect. If you don't have a multimeter in your toolkit - please get one. They're invaluable in debugging. Your 50A trailer is still 120V. There are no 240V appliances in there. Unlike a house, a 50A 120V RV system is "interesting" in how the two 120V legs are energized. Hang in there - have fun. It gets easier, after a short time.
Thank you so much Patrick! We’ve been watching more RUclips videos lately so we can better understand these systems. Great tip on the multimeter. Just ordered one! We will master this stuff soon enough. We’re both too hard headed to fail! 🤣
You are spot on, whill44! I (Daniel) spent a week or so trying to figure out which brands were made in the US and had no luck at all. 🙁 To the best of my knowledge, the CAT's are at least designed and engineered here in Illinois, but I'm almost certain some or all of the parts were manufactured overseas. Finding things that are made 100% in the US has been a challenge for us this year. We genuinely try our best to always purchase 🇺🇸-made and from local vendors. We went to a hardware store before our first trip and just assumed the main US brands (Craftsman, etc.) were all manufactured in the US, but many of them said "assembled in the US". It's a shame. Hopefully, our mission of inspiring more people to shop local will help - in some small way - to change things! Thanks for watching the video. We genuinely appreciate it! 🙏
@@Wanderlocal I had to laugh at him with the generators. From trying to start a hot engine with the choke on to not turning on the power switch. I have had days like that! Now for you new guys,, the vast majority of the small inverter generators out there have the exact same engine and generator unit in them. Made by Ducar in China. It does not matter if it says Cat or Win or Pulsar or Harbor Freight on it, it is the same machine with different plastic on it. (most others too) You need to buy a magnetic dip stick for both of the generators. (cheap) They do not have an oil filter on them, and need something to catch the crud in the oil. Change the oil often. Its cheap. Run the gens at least once a month to keep them working right. Have fun!
If we could all go back to windows XP . Now you know computers and generators ha!! That Jon boat thru the bayou was very cool. And check your messages in messanger I sent you a message sheeesh thought you said you were good with computers?
🤣 XP, loved it. I (Daniel) eventually made the switch to OS and haven't looked back. Now, our office (Symphony is the agency we own) looks like an Apple store. 🤣 Oh, and that boat ride was very cool. We called our guide The Great Oracle, because of how much he knew about the Bayou - down to even the most granular details. In my heyday I worked quite a bit on computers used in healthcare. If fact, at one point I was one of the top radiological technologists in the country (ranked in a magazine, not just me saying that) with a focus on research and protocol development. I used to develop a TON of patient protocols (optimized computer parameters) that were used system-wide at hospitals and imaging centers. Hopefully, someone came along that was much smarter than me and updated everything! Like everything in the computer world, the lifecycle of even some of the best tech and operating systems is short! 😀
@@Wanderlocal a very important job in health care. Long hours I bet and research. The bayou has along history and yes a haven for all types of animal species birds, reptiles and a ton of bugs I bet. I tour my river on my ten ft Jon boat I go around this one bend and I think I am in the bayou so wild I don't even feel like I'm in Canada anymore! The trees all hang down I see cranes and beavers thank goodness swans, duck and geese, swallows every type of bird, garder snakes do swim. So magical i will film this summer.
Hi Brian! Lauren and I own a healthcare communications firm now. But, in a previous life, I (Daniel) worked in Radiology and spent the better part of two decades glued to a computer. 🤓 How about you?
We all have our skill sets! Your pool skills makes you a lot more prepared to deal with some of these RV plumbing things than me. 🤣 It’s been like learning a new language.
Camping/ RV ing isn't Rocket Science ! However, it is thousands of steps, if you miss 1, it could be catastrophic. Or very costly. I leave the vent open in the bathroom. Missed a step? Lol wet TP
Wait I though Windows ME was awesome wasn't it...LOL. That was an ID10T operating system. To late now to mention it.. But for other new people it helps to first camp at a nearby campground close to say a Walmart or RV store so you can have full hookups and then play around with stuff like generators and such. That way if you run into issues like you did you could run by for parts or help connecting stuff up. LOL we love your videos and learn a lot for when we finally are able to get a camper.
Oh, Terry, you are so right! Vista was an absolute MESS! I'd bet Microsoft wishes they'd never rolled that one out. So bad! Greg, that is such good advice! Use a full hookup site close to a large chain store to you have quick access to the things you need. Great tip! Thanks for sharing.
Great tip, Donking Donkey! I literally had no idea that once the generators were up and running all you needed to do was flip the start switch. [insert large face palm here] This is one of the many reasons we love reading through these comments. The next time we'll know better. Thanks for watching! L+D
Neil, we do not, but our tour guides certainly did - and their accent was super strong! Honestly, I wish we did speak it. Multi-lingual is the way to go. Do you speak these languages/derivatives?
@@Wanderlocal yes indeed .. born and raised in New Orleans. 61 now and retiring end of the month. We just ordered our Northpoint 377. Not full timing but definitely hitting the road For fun, google the Rogarou for some fun reading. Have fun guys, stay safe
Couple things, Since you were on the inverter when lost power, your batteries are possibly toast. Why have inverter on when plugged in ? You didn't read instructions on generator or parralell kit. Fuses have NOTHING to do with 110 AC power, they are for 12 volt DC.
@Patrick Schreiber which part scares you? We sometimes scare ourselves. I guess that's what happens when you have two city kids who decided to live full-time in an RV. 🤣
@Diann Ashmore, RUclips sets them up automatically but I (Lauren) will go in and check on it too, to see if there are more than normal. Thanks for the heads up! 👍
@Scott Zettervall, it’s a feature RUclips has called Premier. It allows us to live chat with our community when the video launches. But, this is good feedback. What about it is making you consider unsubscribing? Is it just annoying that you can’t actually watch the video yet?
Thank you for the explanation. I am a new subscriber and yes, basically I find it annoying to get a notification but not watch the video =). Do your thing, thank you for acknowledging my feedback. btw, my family used to Boondock all the time and it is entertaining watching you figure it out. I really wanted to watch this episode when I was first notified!
Between this video and the freezing on Galveston, I will subscribe. Lol. When you said you are really good at computers it all made sense!
🤣🤣🤣 this is a wonderful comment. It made us literally laugh out loud. 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for joining our Wanderlocal family! Do you RV too?
😂 yes we have an RV as well. We live in Houston, and since we didn’t have power, we stayed in our RV for a few days. Does your Airstream have a propane furnace? If so, you should be able to run it in the winter with just one of your generators. This will save set up time and fuel. I ran the RV for 3 days off our Honda 2000i generator and a extended run fuel tank non stop. Thermostat set at 68 and it used 2 20lb tanks of propane.
Brother you are amazing how well you kept your cool and didn't take your flastration out on the generators or cuss a blue streak.
I love that you keep it real!
Congratulations! You definitely deserve those generator muscles 😉
Thank so much, Jason! Those dang things we’re driving me crazy. And to think it was just a simple switch! 🤣🤦🏻♂️ Daniel
@@Wanderlocal My thoughts exactly. Enjoy Florida for me! I wish I were there!
Lauren + Daniel
live and learn thats life! enjoy youre airstream.
Thank you so much, Donald!
Great tips, Robert! I just ordered a stake and copper cables. Better to be safe! 🙌
When the generators are warmed up you skip the (choke) step and turn the knob to start position.
greenwoodr83, that makes perfect sense! 🙈 I (Daniel) would have never thought of that. Thanks for the tip. I’m definitely going to do that the next time. 🙏
Not start position, when warm turn to “on” position. Then pull handle.
We are never boondocking without power again!!........bahahaha
@Brian Gross, how funny is this moment? I (Lauren) was totally cracking up about it while editing this video. 🤣
Great video! We will be taking possession of our 30' Classic first week in April. I have two Champion generators still in the box and after watching Daniel, I will have them fueled and ready to go before we head out. Congrats on your soon to be baby boy!

@Cesar rosario, Thank you! ❤️ We're glad you were able to learn with us about generators through our experience too. We're so happy we know how to work these things now!
The cut scene after the no boon docking without power still has me laughing! 😂
🤣 We're glad you liked it! We try to find cuts that exemplify how we're feeling at that very moment. Thanks for watching, ArizonaBabaBooey. L+D
Actually I think it was more like 50 steps to get it to work ...but you hung in....I love you guys...you’re honest and fun to watch.....
@Lynda Labine, 🤣maybe you are right, but either way it was WAY too many steps. 🤣 There was definitely a point while shooting this video that we were getting nervous that we weren't going to figure it out - so we're glad it worked out in the end. We appreciate your support. ❤️
Awesome attitude guys!!
Thank you so much @Dulce Hernandez! Life is all about learning right? ❤️
LOL - in Louisiana, alligators only live so long before they become dinner. Fun video. Thanks for posting.
🤣🤣 Somehow, we know you’re not kidding...and that makes it even funnier. 🤣🤣
The great thing about this is that you figured it out! Lesson learned will make the next obstacle easier. Maybe.
Right, Dan! 🙌 Learning seems to be a constant with this RV life, but not in a bad way! Eventually, we're going to get the hang of this. 🙏
I have to laugh (sorry)at your situation! We've all had similar learning experiences. Now you can stay warm and comfortable. Stay safe.
@kurt schulmeyer, no need to apologize at all. The fact that it was this difficult to figure this out was ridiculous and totally comical. We're just thankful we finally figured it out. 🤣
Just met yall in Marfa, TX. Good luck tonight!
@Luke-Dakota Massey, it was so nice to meet you yesterday! Thankfully when we got back we had power so got a restful nights sleep. Looks like we’re in for more crazy wind again today though! 🤷♀️ Texas weather be crazy!
Watched this one with my boys...they loved seeing all the animals! And thought Daniel was “silly” 🤣

Thank you so much, John! We appreciate all of your support and feedback. You're the best. 💪
Wanderlocal , 👍 Be safe guys!
when you are cooking the view from the window looks like the RV is going into the water
James, you are so right! We were THAT close to the water. We even asked the owner of the property if we should be worried about rising tides. He assured us it remains 'relatively' constant - which was comforting! 😬Lauren + Daniel
You guys are great and have an awesome attitude. I love the way you all show it how it really is.
Thanks @JD! Sometimes when I’m (Lauren) editing these, I’ll show D the footage and be like “should we really share this with the world? We look crazy,” and he’ll just laugh and say “sure, why not?” 🤣
That spot looked amazing!
Thanks, Jeff! This is all so very helpful and makes perfect sense! 🙏 We’re determined to learn this stuff, so thanks for sharing. Lauren + Daniel
You guys are so much fun to watch. Have thought of buying a jackery solar generator for your laptop, cell phone and other stuff
The water looks like it is getting closer to the RV while you're cooking
Did the generators come with manuals if so I recommend reading lol
🤣 They did! Before we left we may, or may not, have thrown them away. 😉 I guess we should have kept them. 🤣 Thanks for watching, Wen. 🙌
Great video
You need a dog bone adapter that allows to you to go from 20amp to 30amp. That way you can run just one at a time or a 20amp to 50amp depending on your rig.
Guy, I (Daniel) am literally going to pick one up this weekend! Thanks for the tip. We have a 50amp, so I guess it'll be a 20 amp to 50 amp that we need.
@@Wanderlocal Yes a 20 to 50 amp adapter, with your extension cord, will allow one generator to connect directly to your RV without the box that you were using with both generators.
Just an FYI Gators can launch themselves unto the bank and grab you faster than you think. Stay back from the edge….way back.
Yikes! With Daniel growing up in Florida, he has a healthy respect for gators. We try to avoid them at all costs.
I have hunted and fished out lake Martin since I was a kid. It sounded like y’all had Johnathon as y’all’s tour guide.
Jeff, that's exactly who we had as our guide! He was so nice, and super knowledgeable. ❤️ He said his friends called him Google. We agree! We also hung out with the owner. They were both genuinely good people and we had such a great time! Lauren + Daniel
Did you struggle the first time you set up your generators?
Generator's are great when thay go...a major pain when thay don't...I'm thinking that you genies were up to operating temperature when you turned them off...so when you rebooted and restarted them the "3" position on the switch (which is actually the choke) wasn't needed, just try to start it on "2"...hopefully it works!!!.🤞🙏😎❤🇺🇲
I'm tempted to go start up mine see if it's running or I need a carb clean or new spark plug?
Nope the Army taught me about generators. And I am prity sure airstream went over this with you 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣 Of course Airsteam taught us about generators! We must have dozed off in class, because we're sure it doesn't take 87 steps to get these started. 🤣
@@Wanderlocal lmao
Hi 🙋🏼♀️ love your channel!!!
❤️ Thank you sooooooo much! You made our day. ❤️
Any reason you picked 2 generators in parallel rather than one larger generator?
@Kelly Ebner, because the two in parallel were small enough to fit under our truck bed! If we got one that could power our AC unit, it was too big!
🤣 Fred, this may be our favorite comment of the whole week. Yes, if we can do it, anyone can do it! 🐊
@@Wanderlocal love you guys…some of the funniest RUclips videos I subscribe to.

@@Wanderlocal thank you for the reply. Keep the awesome videos coming. You gained a loyal viewer here. Stay safe guys!
That means a lot to us! Really. Thanks for following along. 🙏
Amazing! I've learned a lot from your videos Guys! Love the Classic Airstream. I wonder if the generator is distracting when it is time to go sleep? 🤔
Curious...what generators are you using and their power outputs?
CAT Generator - www.amazon.com/dp/B077338B8F?ref=exp_wanderlocal_dp_vv_d
CAT Parallel Kit - www.amazon.com/dp/B077DCSSLW?ref=exp_wanderlocal_dp_vv_d
@@Wanderlocal thanks for the info. We've got the champion dual fuel 3500. No complaints... Had it for last three years with no issues and we've only run it on propane, except for an initial trial run to make sure it worked on gas. Highly recommend. Keeping in mind, running only at around 3200 on gas, 2880 watts on propane, continuous. I'm sure you'd also have the same drop in continuous running specs on yours. We thought we might get more with the two separate units... Why I was asking. Either way, still have to manage power we're using, especially when opting to use air conditioner. Safe travels!
Id10T is so harsh. Go with PEBKAC. Glad you figured out the genny.
Oh!! I want a pair of those green shoes!!! Do they make them for ladies?
Hi Michelle! I (Daniel) ❤️ these shoes! While they don't specifically make this color for women, all you'd have to do is go down a size and a half from a men's size. For instance, if you wear a size 8 in women's, you'd buy a 6.5 in men's. Little known fact - I worked for a shoe store while in college. 😉

Perfect! Let us know if you have any question. 👍
Watching other RV couples, Nomad Internet is their choice for high speed internet wherever they are camping
@Ed Royer, I have no idea how this hasn't come up in our research before. I (Lauren) will be digging into this today. Huge thanks for the suggestion. We're open to just about anything at this point. Internet has been the most annoying thing about living on the road in remote places. 💪
Finally "cut the cord!" So, when are y'all going to buy a 5-gallon can? Or 2? Thanks! -Greg

I literally can’t wait!! 🙌
🤣We love this comment so much! Thanks, iswatman. Oh, and if that gator had come out from under there it was going to get a flip flop to the face. 🩴💪🤣
im wanting a generator but fear wont work or wont run ac, have on board gen for most stuff but AC the gamechanger plus the room. would only do propane so les punch. thanjks for vid, need to make first boondocking good or wife wont like and o already bought the RV cash lol
That was funny!! Daniel, I know it is not "manly", but promise you will read all instruction books in the future......lol
Judi, do you know what’s less manly?! Fumbling around with a generator because I (Daniel) didn’t read that manual! 🤣🤣 Guaranteed, the next time I’ll read it from cover to cover. 🙌 Thanks for watching!
Check out changing lanes internet setup video on you tube, very knowledgeable and works from the rig. Best one I’ve ever seen.
Lauren + Daniel
you amazon store link is not working
Hi Jane! Sorry about that. We’ll get it changed out ASAP. Until then, here’s the direct link! www.amazon.com/shop/wanderlocal
What's funny is because it has the CAT logo you believe it's made in America.
(most others too)
You need to buy a magnetic dip stick for both of the generators.
Dan.... you work on computers for a living?
Hi Brian! Lauren and I own a healthcare communications firm now. But, in a previous life, I (Daniel) worked in Radiology and spent the better part of two decades glued to a computer. 🤓 How about you?
@@Wanderlocal Thats interesting! I know nothing about computers......But I can build you one heck of a custom inground pool. LOL.
Lol wet TP
🤣🤣🤣 oh my goodness John. Truer words may have never been said. It totally is 1000 steps for everything. 🤣🤣🤣
No mention of Vista? That sucked big time. Worse than ME.
When they are hot you don’t need the choke
Great tip, Donking Donkey! I literally had no idea that once the generators were up and running all you needed to do was flip the start switch. [insert large face palm here] This is one of the many reasons we love reading through these comments. The next time we'll know better. Thanks for watching! L+D
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For real, we agree! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Do you speak Patois French or its Cajun French derivative.
Neil, we do not, but our tour guides certainly did - and their accent was super strong! Honestly, I wish we did speak it. Multi-lingual is the way to go. Do you speak these languages/derivatives?
Decades ago I required gas and pulled off very.near where you were. A bunch of swamp men were kibitzing as I paid fo4 fuel with cash.
True story, there are parts of Louisiana where it feels as if we’re visiting another country. It sounds like your experience was similar! 🤣
Keep your onions in the refrigerator, it really cuts down on the smell.
@Sandi Farrington, great advice! I (Lauren) will absolutely start doing this! 💪
Also, cut them on a damp paper towel!
@Jess Ness adding this to my onion prep knowledge. 💪
Gaters are nothing compared to the “Bayou Rougarou” in that area. (aka swamp Bigfoot)
🤣Thank the heavens, we didn't see him @Michael Adams! Have you spent much time in the bayou?
@@Wanderlocal yes indeed .. born and raised in New Orleans. 61 now and retiring end of the month. We just ordered our Northpoint 377. Not full timing but definitely hitting the road
For fun, google the Rogarou for some fun reading. Have fun guys, stay safe
Couple things,
Since you were on the inverter when lost power, your batteries are possibly toast.
Why have inverter on when plugged in ?
You didn't read instructions on generator or parralell kit.
Fuses have NOTHING to do with 110 AC power, they are for 12 volt DC.
You guys scare me.
@Patrick Schreiber which part scares you? We sometimes scare ourselves. I guess that's what happens when you have two city kids who decided to live full-time in an RV. 🤣
Generator is loud
@Ling Ma, oh my goodness, isn't that true. We only plan on using these when we really need power. I (Lauren) hate how loud they are!
why are there so many ads?
@Diann Ashmore, RUclips sets them up automatically but I (Lauren) will go in and check on it too, to see if there are more than normal. Thanks for the heads up! 👍
Why do you pre-post future episodes? It has me considering unsubscribing
