I'm a fly fisherman. I'm 66 and have never fished with bait. Even on spinning tackle I have always used lures and artificials. I'm learning a lot from watching your videos. Keep up the good work!
@@itzyabui same but the big ones here were caught by jigs and spoons. They tend to not eat dough baits. They’re aggressive and like a moving target. Plus it’s more fun catching on a jig or spoon somehow. More rewarding.
I always do pretty much exactly what you’re doing here. I toss in a bottom rig with bait and then just let it soak while I play around with lures in the top water. Sometimes they hit the bottom bait so much I barely get a chance to even cast my lures. Other times, it’s the opposite, the bottom bait will sit for hours without even a twitch while the lures are getting constant bites. I think it’s good to be prepared to use both and just see what’s getting results on a given day.
I've been there. I saw 10-15 people bottom bait fishing and nobody catching anything. I was also one of them, so, I was bored and start throwing all kinds of lures I had. My problem was, that I had no idea how fast to retrieve, so I was doing my "bass fishing" a la freshwater style. Nothing. And I kept messing around, and once I was retrieving really fast and BOOM, nice bluefish right on it! The it was just imitating what I did over and over. I don't care about bluefish much, but finally I was having fun and that's what's important!
At your local Walmart there is a 5 Ozark Trail lure pack 4 roster tails and a spoon. I don't live by the beach but picked up that pack just before and took it with us on Vacation. I used the white roster tail 7/8 ounce. I caught the most fish I've ever caught at the beach. They were bait size fish, but I caught them and it was fun
I found that lures are the best overall. Most fish see before they can smell or feel vibrations. Even if you're fishing in the deep dark, a luminous lure guarantees a quick hit
Nice 👍 I actually tried this but not in the ocean ! It was in a lake ! Live bait , worms and spoons ! Spoons won that day ! Wonderful times ! It’s all about Having fun !!
man I envy you, bro I hope you know how priceless it is to have your father at your side doing something you both love to do enjoy that bro and Arin is always a plus ☺and its a pleasure watching you guys keep it coming lol
If lures are working, they work, if they don’t they don’t lol. Depth is possibly the most important factor in fishing, if mid water active lures are working, try… floating bait! I like the launcher casting float, there are many options, it’s more hands on than bait and wait in general, but super fun and effective when all you’re getting are lizards and skates lol

More a reflection of species feeding patterns. mackerel (and similar site hunting fish) don't tend to bite on bottom baits. Drum, flounder, mullet ect fish on bottom. Not really a 'this works better'... depends on the fish.

Use a lower gear ratio reel for stronger current. Size of spoon depends on specie. Mackerels tend to hit smaller spoons while travellies hit any size really. Gold spoons are better in dimmer, dirty conditions.
The video is very good, although I would compare the lures vs bait but with the same spinning mode. Those videos you make fishing under the pier would be a good test. use on a bait rod and other lures. greetings from Argentina
If you know how to read the waves you can determine the terrain. There’s lots of videos on here about how to read them. Plus you can let your lure sink and find the deeper spots
@@HeySkipper hi love the vid 1 tip to stop tangling try to make ur bait arrow dinamic in other words cut the tail of ur whole mullet and make ur sinker line connected to a running swivel so when a bug fish pull it won't have a problem with eating ur bait and it will not tangle ur hook snoot

Yoooo guys tremendous Mack attacks! 👏 👏 👏! 100 percent agree. Fishermen and hunters must first demonstrate respect for the fish and animals. Proper handling of fish is essential for preventing injuries and unnecessary fatalities in the fish being released
Its the type of fish feeding at the time. Mackerel are constant moving fish, they dont feed on bottom baits, similar to Bluefish, they want something to chase. so its not a comparison there.. if you were using live baits now, then you have a competition. im just saying
that lure you using its not supposed to drop to the bottom. Hats where paddle tails come in. you cast it out ones it hits the water you retrieve it quick sometimes little bit slower. just something to think about, that's how we use it by us. our GTS ARE HUGE and blue fish.keep up the good work..

Trout: lure [jig/spoons]
Striper: Lure AND Bait
Catfish: Bait [liver]
Rockfish: Swim Jigs/Bait [squid]
Lingcod: Squid Jigs
Mackerel: Lure [wedding ring jig]
Bass: Lure
Panfish: Lure
Halibut: Bait [squid or live smelt]
now if only i lived in norcal instead of south central coast
I agree with your list. But trout I've caught with powerbait dough.

Under an ideal conditions for beach fishing( incoming/outgoing tides ) nothing beats bait fishing , we use crab 🦀 and any fish cut baits , 🙏

At the Baltic Sea we had the situation, that bottom fishing for cod by worms, shrimps, fish a.s.o.caught nothing. Lures online.
I love that you have shoes on! It’s a beach. Sand and water is usually nice on your feet. 😆
I'm deff gona get myself some spoons just to start learning how to use them and to see how they work interesting.
Mack will hit just about anything shiny and fast so a spoon is way more efficient than using live/cut bait
Great content ! Know you're for real with Kastmaster lure the best shore fishing I ever used . Caught most veriety of species on as well .
