    Here are my tips after I watched the video twice and replaced all 5 filters:
    1. Remove the system from the wall if mounted. Its much easier to replace if you don't have to squeeze in under the cabinet
    2. Have a towel and or bucket ready under the filter you're opening to catch the water
    3. Use the provided separate tool to remove the RO membrane twist cap. Its very tight. This separate tool is different then the tool used to unscrew the sediment and carbon pre-filters.
    4. Leave the system out when purging to check for leaks

    Very good video. Thanks. I called Apec because I was concerned about holding the end of the membrane filter with my needle nose pliers, which are certainly NOT sanitized. He said that the outer blue layer on the membrane filter is the part that you want to be sure and not touch with your hands. He said the end fitting is ok to handle with pliers. I just swapped out all five filters, and everything went fine. No leaks. We really enjoy the taste of the RO filtered water, and feel that it is healthier as well.

As for clockwise and counterclockwise, it's all relative and depends on which direction you are using as a reference. Thanks for the advice on running 2 full tankfuls through if you replace the membrane.

      Dear Customer,
      Thank you for your reply and support.

      If your tap water is not treated sufficiently at the location, without knowing the actual water quality it would be a little hard to provide a correct system recommendation. Drinking water purification systems like WFS-1000 are designed to remove sediment and chemicals from water and it can be used with ozone pre-treatments as an option, Reverse Osmosis is another option, and CS-2500 is designed to remove chlorine, bacteria, and lead from the cold water line of a kitchen sink faucet is a different option compared to the first 2. If you need further assistance, please kindly contact us directly through email at info@apecwater.com or you can give us a call at 626-968-8969 during our normal business hours from Monday through Friday between 8:00am-5:30pm pacific time. It normally takes 3-4 hours for the storage tank to fill the first time after installation or the filters being changed. When the tank is full, the drain water will stop running, and the tank will feel very heavy. After 3-4 hours, it would be safe to flush the first tank of water.

    • @freedrinkingwater
      @freedrinkingwater  6 лет назад +1

      Dear Customer,
      Thank you for your inquiry and I am happy to help! The issue you have encountered is very rare but it is likely caused by tap water quality. Carbon filters are also designed to filter out chemicals and other water impurities. However, if it's only on the 3rd stage and not the 2nd, it is possible a water impurity entered the 2nd stage carbon and oxidized it out of the water to the 3rd stage causing this phenomenon. In all cases, our 4th stage Reverse Osmosis filter are designed to remove most harmful visible, and non-visible impurities from water.
      Tap water quality does change from time to time so this may not occur again. I hope this information helps. Thank you.

    Long nose needle pliers will not remove the RO membrane from the plastic housing on my 3-stage filter unit. It takes a brute force manual pull method of steel wire attached to the membrane handle, and the other end to an outdoor pipe. It just happens that the membrane on my filter unit is too strongly stuck in place for simply using pliers.

    My 3-stage RO filter unit is positioned within the laundry water tub. This is useful just in case the filtered water dispenser container accidentally overflows. No damage will result because any filtered water overflow goes down the laundry tub drain.

    You need to flush FILTERS AND BYPASS THE MEMBRANE! This isn’t mentioned and absolutely should be. Or it will all be caught in the membrane and clog prematurely.

    After viewing the video I changed the 1, 2, 3 pre filters on my APEC RO system. The water is not coming out as strong as before. I checked both water valves and they are both turned on fully. Any ideas?

    Hi.. should i change the membrane if stinky smell comes out everytime first start i open the day after? The stinky smell is about 3 minutes. after let it flow it becomes normal smell...

    • @freedrinkingwater
      @freedrinkingwater  Год назад

      Dear Valued Customer,
      We recommend first turning off the tank ball valve and turn on the drinking faucet and run the purified water for 3-5 minutes to see if there is any smell. If there is a smell, replacing the system filters like membrane or pre-filters based on our recommended filter maintenance schedule should take care of the issue. If there is no smell, please turn the drinking faucet on for another few more minutes and if there is continuously no smell, I recommend turning off the water to the RO system and see if you can empty water from the water storage tank using the drinking faucet. An empty tank weighs 10lbs and if you cannot empty, replacing the tank should resolve the issue.
      Feel free to contact us by visiting our customer contact page at www.freedrinkingwater.com/contactus.htm We are always happy to help!

      Hello,

      Thank you for your inquiry. I'm happy to help! The life of the filters will vary depending on the model. Typically the bottom 3 would be replaced about every 6-12 months and the top filters would be replaced about every 2-4 years.

    Agh, I remembered why I hate changing these filters today! Tips for future self:
    - Need to not just turn pin valve but bigger water valve under sink as well
    - 1st membrane is hardest to get off. Put on side, use grippy shelf liner on wrench for better leverage
    - Use large roasting pan when unscrewing to catch water that will spill out
    - canisters will need to be cleaned out
    - ***Important** Make sure filters are well screwed on (yes, this is why they are so tough to get off!) otherwise water will come squirting out the top edge!

  • @lifeofdan9938

    I saw a comment burried in ine of these discussions to use a C clamp to unscrew the RO Membrane canister. This worked really well for me, nothing else i tried did. I used a vice on the other end. Some comments make it sound like newer kits come with a smaller wrench specifically for this canister. My kit did not. Unfortunately even if you get this cover off, you have to tighten it a lot when you put the new filter in to avoid leaks. I may call support next time this filter needs service and see if i can just buy the whole canister. Hassling woth the membrane is ridiculous, the materials for the plastic canister cant be that expensive.

At the same time while pressing in, pull out the tubing. You can also try to press the white ring and push the tubing in before pulling it out. If you are still unable to remove tubing we can send you a JG Tool by contacting our customer service team. Our customer service team are available Mon-Fri 8am-5pm PST at 1-800-880-4808. Thank you!

    GREAT to-the-point video! THANK YOU! I have a system that i built for a friend, but it never got to be reinstalled and has sat for about 2 years. Do you think the system would be ok if I just gave it a good flush? or do you think i should replace the R/O membrane. It only had about a month or two of use before being plugged up and sat for 2 years....
