Got me one in June 2022, when my wife was sick with cancer and in her final days (she passed on end of July). She was in severe pain back then as the cancer attacked everything in her frail body. I unboxed tge Deluxe, put it on a 2.1 sound system per headphone jack and starred exploring the sounds. My wife lay on our living room sofa, listened and commented that this is by far the best sounding instrument I bought in the 25 years we were together. Later, she fell asleep on the soothing sounds - her first hours of sleep since weeks back then... R.I.P., love of my life - hope they got Hydrasynths wherever you went... 😥
It's an astonishing instrument, it can do soft and mellow, soothing and sweet. Or flick a switch and it can test your speakers to near breaking point. Sweet spots galore. I am very sorry you lost your wife, that will have been very tough. But stay strong. You can't modulate grief with an LFO . . . or can you?
Thanks so much for your wonderful demo of this awesome sounding Synthesizer 😀. It has now moved into the Number 1 position on my next purchase list. I hope all is well in Your world 🌎. Mark Bensette Aux Bois 🇨🇦.
Just discover this. Wow ! I hoped the Deluxe sounds like this, thx man, it’s sold for me. I feel this is the best option for a « CS80 experience » now. One day, one day...
definitely a worthy successor to the CS-80 with PolyAT, 2 x 8-voices and pitch ribbon ... is there a ring mod? and you could control a Sequential Rev. 2 (also Poly AT) from the Hydrasynth keyboard ....
Hi paul. Really enjoying your Hydrasynth videos, thinking of purchasing the Delux version, cant decide between this or the iridium keyboard version. Dont know if you have tried the iridium to compare?
@paulschilling2996 Hi Paul, yes my friend I couldn't decide between them so ended up getting Both:). I'm absolutely loving the Hydrasynth Deluxe, she's a beautiful synthesizer, very impressed indeed, for sound design it's great, so many options available. I think for it's price it's unbeatable. ASM have produced a really stunning synthesizer here, I tip my hat to them for sure.
@@paulschilling2996 The iridium keyboard version...yeah very different compared to the Hydrasynth deluxe, tonally and to work with. Like the Hydrasynth deluxe it can be as complex as you like or as simple as you like, both offer endless sound design. I'd say the Iridium is definitely quicker to use for that, I really like how they have designed the on screen pages and info, just like the Hydrasynth Deluxe the modulation routes are too many if anything so you hav 1:37 e lots and lots of choices. The keybed is very nice, very short travel. However, the Poly Aftertouch on the Hydrasynth is better..feels and affects the sound much more and more a natural feel. But yes 2 different synths for sure, I do however wish ASM had made a better keybed action though, it can feel a bit loose and clunky..do you feel that with you're unit? You can do more with the iridium due to its different synth engines and on board sampler and sequencer, but I have to say, the Hydrasynth Deluxe puts a bigger smile on my face, I honestly love that synth. The Novation Summit is here too along with the Polybrute and Rev 2. The Summit is absolutely Fantastic, amazing tonally and great to work with. I actually prefer it over the Polybrute, I'm thinking of exchanging or selling the Polybrute, I'm just not a fan of Arturias Steiner parker filter, it's ladder filter is ok but just OK, the filters on the Rev 2 are way nicer.
Not many good demonstrations of this really, or it seems many people putting it to use in performance. But I have enjoyed the submissions of both you and SG Ra. Always well done. If I hadn't had a peak at what Korg have coming to replace the Kronos, might have been tempted! Keep it up.
@Rainfeather, that is a powerful statement, and one I hope you could elaborate in more detail in the near future. Please inform us/ me in an update, such an update is anticipated.
Is it a must have Paul ? I know you had another type of multi polyphonic aftertouch keyboard that you used with the Deckard, How does the instrument and keybed feel to you?
Great video Paul! I’ve just watched a vid of the OB-X, 7 minutes of growling (I melted a little on the inside 😍!), watched a vid on the Oberheim 8 Voice (SEM, SEM, and more SEM’s!) then your vid on the upcoming OB-X8, and have recently purchased this Hydrasynth Deluxe, though due to everyday life I’ve not had the time to dig deeply into it as yet. On behalf of other new Hydra Deluxe owners, who also share a deep and profound respect (and love) for the Oberheim ‘sound’, do you think that this instrument is capable of re-creating the Oberheim sound, feel, and growl?! I’m sorry but US$1,799 (Hydrasynth Deluxe MSRP) is a lot easier than US$4,999 (OB-X8 MSRP).
I do think it can get very close. I’m up for the challenge…if you point me to a specific segment of the “7 minutes of growling” vid (30 seconds of growl?), I can do my version of it on the Hydra
@@paulschilling2996 Brazenly jumping into this thread, I think the moderately resonant pad with a slow filter attack from about :30 - :55 is a good example of Oberheim filter that's hard to replicate. I'm going to see how close I can get to that on my Peak as well.

Epic! A beast of a wave morphing machine. Love it

Nice to see you here my friend :) I made some nice Vangelis patches for the Hydra, a popular one is called BladeTitles…
I know it ! A friend of mine who own a Hydra loves this sound !
Can you tell me your feeling about the keybed ? Is it ok or cheap or...?

Yes!
Great Sounds and Great Playing

Great video, Paul. I am looking for a great synth to sub for my Prophet X. This sounds like it'll work well for me. Appreciate ya 💯
