  • TLDR: Foot Pedal Steering install & tips for a Lifetime Teton Pro 116 with a Trolling Motor
    Parts List Below
Social media inspired me this morning. Rather, people's posts on social media inspired me. I really dislike when people go online and bash somebodies efforts. For me, maybe you, and most people, we’re going to screw it up a lot before we get it right. We all progress at different rates. Today, it’s not so much about kayak accessories as it is about some kayak modifications. I have a couple Lifetime Kayaks. In this video, the Teton Pro Angler 116. It comes with stationary footrests. They have a great adjustment system to fit people from about 5’6” up to taller folks at about 6’4” So on that level, it's a pretty versatile kayak. I got to thinking about this all when I began installing the trolling motor on my kayak; How could I get foot pedal steering on my budget Lifetime Teton Pro kayak?? After spending hours on the interwebs and youtube, I found a few videos on other kayaks with a similar foot pedal system and got to tinkering. So after I found a $20 Minnkota trolling motor, ordered a replacement prop, got a 100Ah lithium battery, and a cheap PWM, it was time to get to work. Ok, maybe not in that order, but all around the same time.

Don't get too critical, I do have a website, but it is probably forever going to be a work in progress. Kinda like my kayaks: www.mychaoticfishing.com

This was a pretty good video, I would like to know more about the motor lift mount, also I have the same yak and I went inside haul for steering using 49 strange stainless steel coated cable for my steering cable. Drilled the holes in the 4 areas for steering, cleaner looking. I used connector for drip irrigation, drill a 1\4 in hole run the wire thru the plug and seal.

Interesting. Love to hear what people are doing to theirs. So many options. I talked to so many people who were just nervous to do anything to their yak and I hope I can show folks, it’s ok if it’s not perfect, not trying is the only way to truly fail 🤙

@@MyChaoticFishing I’d love to see how you made and mounted that transom too! There’s no access inside the kayak back there which is what’s tripping me.

@@koolkarlwithak I’ll definitely do another video on that. Jack nuts did the trick, and have held great for months. I literally lift the back of the yak into my truck from that plate, which is held on by the jack nuts

Not a bad video, though you should show the public how you set up the steering. Some of us want to see you explain how you set it up, not something you want to do. And It is easy to mount the steering line inside the yak.
