      You are certainly welcome and thank you for your kind note. I came from a poor family and worked as a teacher, So I never made much money - but I had a lot of free time in the summer and discovered that tent camping allowed me to vacation in many places that wealthier families visited. Over my 50+ years, I have spent a lot of time in a tent. Unfortunately, I’m 75 now and camp less - because I don’t have the health and energy of my youth. Have you seen my most recent video about camping beds?

    It is a nice list and is mainly used for family outings. I would add in some things, maybe others already added it or not.
    Make a checklist of your gear and pack it the day before the trip or a few days before the trip. This way you are not forgetting important things that you need like cooking ware, clothing, bug spray/sun screen, ect.
    Set up your tent before your trip. This is a must if you just bought a new tent so you can see if there are any damages, missing poles or parts, or if it isn't seemed taped. If you have a tent you have been using it would still be good to check it every month just in case something got damaged, mold, or critters.
    Be sure to bring something to protect you if you are going into an area that has known predators in it. Bear mace is the best choice because it is easy to find and works for all, even on people trying to do you harm.
    Location is important. Not saying this will ruin your experience the most but if your campsite is close to other neighbors who are loud, have lights everywhere, or/and shady it can ruin the whole camping experience you wanted.
    This is just me personally but try not to over pack. For example, why do you need a coffee machine when you can boil water in the campfire and pour in instant coffee. The more you pack the more you have to keep track of, set up/break down, and better chance you forgot about an item you do need because you were busy stuffing your vehicle.

    • @moderntentcamping
      @moderntentcamping  3 года назад

    I took your advice and gave the coleman weathermaster tent back and bought a big agnus 6 man bunk house. I don't know what you're beliefs are but I honestly believe that God was poking me and I've had peace since. I found it on ebay for about half off and only needed a few small patches. Even not patched, we went through a fairly nasty thunderstorm that flooded the other folks out didn't bother us. We stayed dry and warm. It was really nice to not have to worry about being wet or the tent trying to blow away.

      Hey Rick. Thanks for the note. Yes, I lived in Wisconsin for 9 years back in the 1970s - after graduating from college. Both my children were born in the state and we watched the Packers play (and frequently loose) every Sunday. But I grew to love Wisconsin and wanted to retire there. After returning to my home state of Alabama in 1979, I returned to Wisconsin at least a week every summer for the next 40 years and I followed both the Packers and Brewers. Today, I don’t go back anymore but I still follow the Pack. Just watched them pull out an overtime win against the Patriots last night. Do you live in the state? Where do you like to camp? Thanks again for the note.

      @@moderntentcamping I'm a TOTAL noob where camping is conserved. I haven't been camping since I was in Boy Scouts 40 years ago, but I'm heading out to camp the 10th-12th this month. So, right now, I'm just collecting the equipment I need and watching a lot of videos made by folks who DO have experience. I live in Ohio, but my paternal grandfather was born and raised in Green Bay, so really. it's a family tradition. If you don't like the Packers, we just remove you from the family!! lol And yes, it was great to see us take down the Bucs with Brady at the helm, and the very next week, taking down the Patriots and Brady's old coach. The refs were trying to give the Patriots the game it seemed from some of the calls, yet we still prevailed!! GPG!!!

    I have 6 years of experience of travel with motorcycle and tent , and i can say, your video is great. What i finds a mistake is u didnt say enough how important sleep is. Good matress, sleeping bag, and clothes made of wool is vital, if temp is dropping. Freezing every night, your holyday is ruined (i have freezed sometimes). When i see i got a "cold" night ahead, i allways eats before i go to sleep, this will increase my body to make heat by 40 percent. Its nice to difference in tent pit in usa and europe, we use grass in europe.

      I agree Susan. Earlier in the camping season we had about a dozen women in their 40s right next to us blasting the entire provincial (Canadian) park all night with extremely loud rock music- like it was a night club. The more neighbours and the park patrol complained the louder they sang at the top of their lungs and hooted. Drunk of course too. Next morning I heard one reassuring the other " It doesn't matter what other people think." Yes it does!

    I enjoyed your video, very good points! You might want to consider adding a few... #1. Tent rain flap needs to go to the bottom of the tent ( I see too many buying cheap tents where the rain flap stops 5' above the ground), so one doesn't have to scramble for a tarp in the middle of the night while getting drenched on top of it. #2. Put a small porta-potty inside the tent for overnight bathroom needs. #3. Buy yourself a Buddy Heater to warm up the tent in the early morning hours. --> Also, putting up a tarp like a sail to 'block' wind is a joke, right? Come camp with me in 25+ mph winds at 8000+ feet elevation with temperatures down to -20F.

Also write refund request letters to state DNR departments. You probably won’t get the refund but your letter will get some attention. And more letters may get better enforcement in the future. Donny Bryan Thank you Donny for the comment. I agree with you about that noise. I usually go to bed soon after it gets dark and can usually sleep through a little noise but have been wakened many times by loud drunks next to our campsite. In the past I have asked them to be quiet and a few have responded but drunks become resentful and get louder. So I just call the park ranger or local police. Funny you mentioned Fort Wilderness. I think every camping family in the world has stayed there except me.

    Do you ever use a rocket pocket or jet boil? If so do you ever bring it in the tent on cold mornings for tea or coffee? I just bought A gazelle tent for myself at Christmas time. I have a rocket pocket that I will be bringing inside to make tea on cold rainy chilly mornings. I know it’s never a good idea to have any kind of fire inside of a tent and not the greatest habit to get into but it is so convenient.

      Jacqueline Yes, we have a pocket rocket stove and use it sometimes to boil water for tea, hot chocolate, or oatmeal. But no, we have never used it for heat in a tent. Down south, campsites have electricity all year and we have an electric space heater. If electricity was not available, we’d use a mr. heater buddy. How’s tax season going? I filed my return last week and waiting for my refund. Should be coming by the end of the month.

      Frazier Douglass I would never use the stove for heat I also have a Mr. heater buddy that I use in the tent. Tax season is absolutely insane I’m working 10 hours a day five days a week and six hours on Saturday. I’m really looking forward to April 15. A nice five day vacation is coming and I will be camping. I just filed mine last Friday. And I’m so happy that I’m getting some back from both federal and state this year. Yipeeee.

    We use a woven rv awing mat under our tent does not collect water and is softer on feet than a tarp and tent floor stays dry.
