In this DIY video, I show how to program a Viper security systems key fob remote control. I give a step-by-step walk-through programming guide to pairing your Viper car remote. I use a Viper remote FOB model 7145V in this video, but these instructions will work for many other models as well. Programming your remote may be slightly different depending on which system you have. To pair your remote, you have to locate the Valet control button which is located on the windshield above the review mirror on most vehicles but may be located in someplace else on your car. Once you locate the valet control button, programming your Viper car remote fob is easy after that. This easy programming guide for your Viper remote will help you learn how to pair your remote control, quick and simple.

I saw so many videos, but yours was the only one that helped me and explained it, so simply without making me feel like I’m an idiot. Thank you so much.
My pleasure. I am glad the video helped you out.
Worked perfectly, I have an older Viper where the button isn't integrated with the antenna, it was located under my dash, but the procedure is exactly the same. Thank you sir, you are doing God's work!
anybody show a picture or video of this button??
@@melissadennison961 You can't post that in the comments sections, search image Viper Valet Button. It's a rudimentary plastic button, attached to a plastic washer and cable that is designed to be drilled and attached behind the dash, glovebox, lower section of the dash, etc. You should see a cheap black plastic button. Again, most likely location is in the glove box, either inside the box or around the frame of the glovebox, also under the dash section below the steering wheel is another popular location.
Thank you so much!!! That was so simple and direct. The directions really are horrendous. Viper needs to pay you.
You are very welcome. I am glad I was able to help.
Thank You I have been trying to fix my remotes for more than a year.
They work now 🥰
Glad I could help
Thanks for the video it helped my car had this model 7145V but I don't know what I did that the noice bib wouldn't sound anymore thanks to your video I reset it and I could hear the alarm arm and disarm.,👍 God bless and stay save my ma
My pleasure. So glad it helped. God bless you too.
Myyyyyu guyyyy!!! Don’t comment on RUclips….. youu neeeeeded it!!!! Was stuck in valet mode for more than a year…. This helped … instead of the button on top by the sensor I pressed the orange alert button 7 times and held on the 8th with the door open!!!! If I cud hug the shit out of you I would!!! Much love and thanks all the way from Trinidad 😭😭😭😭🙏🏽🙏🏽🐄
So glad I could help. I want to visit Trinidad some day. I bet it is beautiful there . 😍
Absolute life saver, just did this on my 7146v worked perfectly first try.
Awesome. Glad it worked for you.
Thanks for the video. My 7146v came with instructions that only said to press button on my alarm once, not 8 times. I was wondeirng why it only programmed the locking/arming function and not unlock. Super frustrating but you saved the day.
You're welcome. I am happy to hear that this video helped you out.
Thanks, really easy. Watched it one time and it took two tries on my alarm to get it to program. Kudos amigo. 👏👍🖖Live long and prosper.
Thanks, man. Have an awesome day,
Dude you saved my bacon with this video. My fob died and this was exactly what I needed.
Dude, your video is spot-on! But I think you would get a lot more views if you aimed your smartphone camera just a little bit higher and took a picture of that little plastic black button thing that they put on your rear-view mirror. You don't have to hold your lip just right, just aim that smartphone camera just a little bit higher on your rear-view mirror and make sure you get that little plastic black button thing in the picture and I swear you'll get a billion hits! Do the video exactly the same way as did before, except aim that smartphone camera a little bit higher on that little plastic black button thing, and you'll get a billion views!!! Money!!!
Simple and to the point! That is the best video. And it worked perfect. Thank You!
You are welcome. Glad it was helpful.
Thanks for this! This thing was driving me crazy and you made it so simple!
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it.
I had the 7145v remote leftover from an old car I sold. My new car came with two 7146V remotes one of which was lost and the other broken. Though I ordered a new one, I figured I would try to get the old 7145v one to work with this newer system. Unfortunately using the method in the video didn't work. I looked up how to program the 7146v video. With that method, you have to press the valet button once to activate it. Then you have to press the remote start button to pair it. That didn't work either. So I tried combining the methods. I pressed the valet button once to activate it, then 8 presses holding on the 8th press, then pressed the Start button on the fob once and the dash lights flashed twice and the car just started. I stepped on the brakes to turn it off. Turned off the ignition and removed the key. Closed the door and tested the locks, they worked. Hit the remote start button, it worked and opened the trunk with the Aux.
So if you cannot get the video's method to work, try like I did and maybe that'll work for you too?
Great Advice. Thanks!

Maaannnnn that crazy I’ve been needing this since my big remote ended up in the washer machine
My pleasure. Glad it helped.
Thanks for making this video. I need to buy replacement Viper Remote and get it paired .I was reading all the Amazon reviews how to get it paired. I'm thinking it a little nightmare on my hands😵💫.
So glad I came across your Viper Pairing video.
Thank you for showing how easy it is to getting it paired .
Your video was the best video. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😃
Thank you for helping me out.
I even subscribe to your You Tube Channel
You are very welcome. I am so glad it helped you out.
@@thejungleexplorer Good job on this video. It took all the guess work learning how ez it is to pair a Viper remote control . Many thanks !!👍🏻😀
You need
- Key
- Remote Entry Fog
- Access to the Transmitter Control Button on the overhead control centre.
To Program the Fob
- Open the driver door
(NB: I had my cabin light switched off to avoid accidentally leaving it on. BUT ... the only way the alarm knows if the door is open is by the interior light coming on. So, you need to have the interior light set to 'on' when the door opens. Otherwise the programming does not work.)
- Turn the key in the ignition to the 'On' position
- Press the overhead transmitter control button 7 times THEN PRESS AND HOLD ON THE 8th PRESS
(At this point the alarm will chirp)
- Whilst still pressing the transmitter button press the REMOTE KEY FOB LOCK BUTTON
(At this point the alarm will sound, briefly)
- Turn the ignition key off
- Close door
- Test Key Fob programming has worked by arming and disarming the vehicle with the fob.
Thank you for commenting James Young! Thank you for this great information James Young. I appreciate it very much when viewers contribute useful information as you have here.
Thanks man was so hard to figure out before I saw this video
My pleasure. Glad it helped
For anytine struggling on model 7146v remote I ended up programming my 7146v remote by -
step 1- Open the car door
Step 2- Turn ON vehicle
Step 3- Press control button 8 times hold on 8
Step 4- Hold lock button on remote as its chirping
Then it should be set test it out
Great information.
Mine chirps after I press the button 5 times and does nothing on the 8th
Okay got mines programmed but it will lock and unlock with the lock button ? My unlock button doesn’t do the unlocking but the lock button works as both. Anything I can try to make it normal ?
Thank you for commenting Alex Lopez! I am sorry, I do not know how to answer this question.
Hey I just wanted to thank you for your video that really help me all the way in Mexico !!! Gracias amigo
De nada me amigo. Tenga una buena día.
I have a 7146v remote and it came with instructions on the back that actually worked. The model numbers on the package didn't match also then I found those numbers are for the brain unit not the remote. But open the door, turn key to on position. Within 5 seconds press and release the valet button the number of times listed for your unit. ( Only 2 units listed so try it both ways if first doesn't work). Then press and hold valet button. It will flash the number you press first. It will beep horn then press lock while still holding valet button. My locks clicked immediately. I have a picture of directions but can't up load here. Hope this helps
Thanks for commenting.
hi Jungle Explorer thanks for posting on my viper model # 550esp it was not working so I pressed the button 8 times and held it down on the ninth and it worked once again pressed 8 times released it and pressed it 1 more time and held it down and it worked. all other instructions the same, again thanks for posting.
Just changed the batteries in my 7142v and went outside to try this and my door was locked. I hadn't locked it when I got out of it but I had pressed the lock button when I put the new batteries into my old fob. Pressed the unlock button and it opened right up. Pressed the star button and the starter engaged and it fired right up. Glad I didn't need to reprogram after changing batteries because I bought this vehicle used and my fuse box is under the hood and I have noooooooo idea where that button on the wire is, lol.
Thank you for commenting Rebel9668!
Hello, do you know how to turn down the sensitivity? I have the same viper alarm.
Thank you for commenting N! I am sorry, I do not know how to answer this question.
Worked the first time I tried. Thanks a bunch.
Thank goodness I watch your video and it work thank you

How do you do an old viper remote and the starter behind the mirror the thing has no button
Need to know the same

Brooke Banfe I need help with it did you find a way?
HiddenReaper ruclips.net/video/ydPMf-XeC7o/видео.html
HiddenReaper I haven’t had time to do it yet but I think this will help.
Why Viper/DE makes it so difficult for the end user to program a replacement remote is beyond me. Huge thanks to Jungle Explorer for making a short video showing how easy it is.
Thank you for commenting David B! I am so glad the video was helpful.
Any idea on how to do the ch2? I had two fobs break and need to program a third
Sorry, I am not familiar with that process.
I lost my instructions for my back up remote and I do have that one 5105v can you help out. Mine chirps after 5. Thanks
For the viper 4105v model that does not have the button on the transmitter, I used the valet button. This is a 2 wire black push switch that connects to the top of module near led indicator light, trace from module to find switch.
Steps:
T
1. Turn ignition on
2. Within 5 secs Press valet switch once and let go.
3. Within 5 secs or releasing valet switch, press it again and hold.
4. While holding valet switch press the lock button on remote, at this time the horn will activate to indicate remote was programmed.
5. Release valet switch and turn off ignition. Horn will sound a long blast to indicate the exit of programming.
6. Test remote by pressing lock, unlock etc. Good luck
disto573 this got mine to pair but only one button... the lock button is working for both lock/unlock. Also, there is no chirp or horn noises.
Thank you for commenting disto573!
Thanks for this video. My viper 7145v locks/unlock my car but won't start the car after I replaced my car battery. I tried to ise your video but my problem I couldn't find any control button on the transmitter. Any idea where this could be hidden?
You're welcome. Glad it helped.
Finally a helpful video
***NOTE:
This may work for many systems, but the number of presses of the valet button differs depending upon the type of security system you have installed. My system beeped at 5 presses BUT still did not program. Mine programmed with one (1) press of the valet button, for whatever reason. It worked using all the procedures in this video but with only one press.
Good information. Thanks for commenting
It may be the FOB that is bad.
Thanks boys. Mine was also beeping at 5 clicks. My systems procedure was 2 clicks hold on second. Additionally, my valet button was tucked under the wheel column dash near the unit. It wasn’t tactile and needed to be firmly pressed.
lifesaver thank you
Great Video. Would the steps you provided in the video also program my trunk and remote starter as well? I need to replace my viper 7142v remotes as they have seen better days. Please advise. Thank You
I do not know. My truck does not have those functions.
Thanks a lot I just bought a car but the viper alarm stopped working, I replaced the batteries on the remote, but I think the remote stopped working because there is no lights on it when I press any button, I order a remote, thanks again, now I know how to program it
Yeah, my old original Viper remote wore out and did the same thing. Just stopped working. A new one solved the issue.
Would you know how to set the sensitivity of the alarm?
Unfortunately, I do not. Sorry.
@@thejungleexplorer Ok no worries
My system is the 3305v with no button On antenna. Can you help me reset?
Ther has to be a button somewhere. It may be under the dash or somewhere else. If there is no button, I don't know what to do.
Nice . Thank you . It works perfect.
You're welcome!
Okay my brother passed away so I was left his car with this remote so I realized the other day I was in a parking lot and there is no panic button on it I’m so confused so the first button car locked 2 car unlocked third car starts side button for trunk. Where is the panic button?
The orange button should be it.
But how do you use it to start the vehicle?
I thought it was just an alarm and not a remote start. But I open up the dash and there's a key and a transponder in there
I've tried just about every combination of four buttons I can think of and I can't get it to work
I do not believe this remote has that function. If your vehicle is equipped with a remote start function, you will need a different model of remote to utilize that function.
I cant find the transmitter. Where else would it be than behind the mirror?
On some older models, it is located under the dash. Look under the steering wheel.
Thank you very much
Thank you, very well done and informative!
Double whammy here….I lost the original remote and my battery is dead. I know once I replace the battery, the alarm will go off because the door will be open. Do you know if the device will be/can be paired while the alarm is going off? I have the model 5105v. Thanks.
Sorry friend. I do not know the answer. I would contact Viper about this.
Does this work for all viper systems? I have an older system and just looking for an answer before I buy this new remote fob.
Current fob I have the plastic back fell off so battery is being held by electrical tape / I don’t use it anymore.
I am not sure.
How does this work if the car is already locked? My key fob died when my car was locked and parked. If I use my regular manual key to open the door won't the alarm sound?
I am not really sure in this case. Sorry.
Yup out of all the videos watched urs was directly on point.thx
Thank you
Thanks, ir works for my viper previous version too
Thank you for commenting mcarbajalc! I am so glad the video was helpful.
Thanks you so much for this videos
Your welcome
I tried this method and i never heard the chirp. Am i doing something wrong? Ive tried multiple times with no success
Unfortunately, there are different models of Viper systems and this does not work on all of them. You might try contacting Viper to see if they can help you with your model.
I've the model 7146v for my car and everything I put my car in neutral for the express wash. My alarm stops working. The thingy on the windshield stopped blinking the blue light.
Sounds like a system issue. Might need to have a technician look at it.
i have this system in my truck. i had to unplug the battery to do some work on it, and the remote stopped working. it just blinks and doesn't do anything. i need help please?
If you have tried the steps in this video, then I would contact Viper support for help. www.viper.com/support/
as simple as that, thank you so much!!
My Pleasure. Glad it helped.
Does this work with a used remote or only new? Also, my car has the button and an on/off switch right next to eachother in the fuse box area. The on/off switch seems to only turn on/off the remote start function. The (original remote) still locks/unlocks/arms alarm.
Thank you for commenting Alloutofdonuts! I am sorry, I do not know how to answer this question.
Worked like a charm! Thanks a lot, friend.
Thanks, u make it easy, Thanks again.
You're welcome
Why does my viper not start in the winter when I need it ? Battery or some thing ?
Extreme cold temperatures can effect batteries, but I don't know that is your problem. It is really hard to tell without being able to test it in person. Changing the battery is a good place to start though.
I have a 7142v model would it be the same process? I replaced my car battery and now the remote starter is discounted.
I don't know that model, but it will not hurt anything to give it a try.
Thank you for commenting Payal Surati! I am sorry, I do not know how to answer this question.
I programed my key FOB using your video, which worked, but it now appears that the alarm system is draining the battery. I have the Viper XR Plus alarm system. Do you have any ideas on what might have happened?
Sorry man, I don't know what is causing this. Souns to me like some sort of ground short, but those are almost imnposible to find.
This is simple. Thanks How about the Auto Start feature?
Thank you for commenting Wayne Neva!

What if the aux is programmed to the windows will it automatically program to original viper remote settings ?

I have this replacement remote since more then year and never be able to figure out. My problem is my car Toyota rave 4 2006 I couldn't find that little transmitter and I have no clue where the hell its hiding. Its definitely not there up on the mirror in my car.Anyone have any clue?
Sometimes it is located under the driver side dashboard, in the back or up near the steering column.
@@thejungleexplorer Thank you.there is a button like thing at driver side door and I tried according to your video but no response😣
Thank you!
My pleasure.
Mine arms and disarms the alarm but I have to manually lock and unlock the doors 😒 any help? I’m not a mechanic or anything… hoping it’s something simple
I would reach out to Viper for technical support. facebook.com/viper/
Just bought a truck and it has the same viper alarm I bought a remote trying to program it but the reciever button doesn’t work doesn’t light up any recommendations?
Sorry. I don't know what to tell you. There are several models and I only know mine.
Does this work w a GMC 2003 Sierra?
This works with Viper systems. Viper systems are not OEM. They are aftermarket. If a GMC Sierra has the right model of Viper system, this will work for it.
Hey Jungle Explorer, the transmitter for my Viper 4 button remote control starter/ security system model #7145V (Bought from Amazon) does not have the button you are talking about. I have heard that for the model installed in my car the brain is of this Viper alarm system is installed under the front dash, below the steering wheel, in front of my knees. Any idea how I can program my spare remote in this situation where it does not have the valet button on the transmitter? Any suggestion will help. Thanks.
Sorry friend. You question got caught by the spam filter and I just found it.
Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of help to offer you. Different installers put the button in different locations, so it is impossible to know where might be. You might try contacting Viper about the issue.
Somebody help me out please. I have the viper alarm system 3305v also have a chevy Silverado as in the video and i need to program the replacement remote but there is no button above the rear view mirror. It has the same thing as in the video above the mirror just no button on it. So I'm guessing I'm going to have to find the valet button somewhere under the dash but I can't find a button anywhere. Has anybody else had the same problem? Where should the button be?
Unfortunately, the installer could have put it anywhere. I would suggest that you look carefully with a flashlight in every conceivable place you can find.
Tried doing it for my 94 mustang and it wouldn't work. New fob too
Sorry to hear that
Couple of Questions:
1- Is this only to program lock/unlock function on the remote?
2- I am looking to program one as a spare, but a spare with the same command start feature as original? Will programing it also enable the auto start feature or is it good for only locking/unlocking?
There are many models of systems and FOBs. I can only speak for this one. My assumption is that if you program the right FOB to the right system, then all features of the system should work. That seems to be the most logical way it should work, at least to me.
I disabled it because it was going off everytime I opened it manually because it unsynced... now that I go to enable it there is no 8 times nor a chirp, nothing works as if it's just being hard-headed so please come help me 😣
It sounds to me like you system has become defective and may need a Viper technician to look at it.
Thank you! I did mine!
Thank you for commenting Jerry Masloff! I am so glad the video was helpful.
It worked!
Thank You.
Hii I wonder if you know how can i fix my car which have the same model remote but it is not chirping althought it locks and unlocks
Sorry. Not sure how to help you with this one. I would it is something with the system itself.
Solved
With the door opened press lock button then aux then lock again its will get it in/out from valet mode
Yep, thanks for this!
My pleasure. Glad it helped
Excelent , thanks
My pleasure. Glad it helped
I tried an im not getting a honk or chirp idk what’s wrong pls help if you know what’s going on
I am sorry. I do not know what's wrong. There are many different models of Viper systems. I only know about the one on my truck.
Nothing happens when I hold the button down on the 8th or 5th time, no lights or beeps. When I have my door open and push the button with the car off the hazard lights come on click a few times then go off.
It may be a different system. Not all Viper systems are the same.
THANK YOU! Unfortunately my model (7146v, which SEEMS to have the same control center) ALSO is difficult to find the instructions for and does NOT match YOUR model. I find it AMAZING that they don't seem to want to support their products with complete information. Thanks for trying to help us all! :-)

How to go valet mode and back to shark mode for the same viper model?

Thank you for commenting @Truckngirl! I am so glad the video was helpful.
What buttons do you hit on the remote to remote start it after it’s set up?
The remote in this video does not have a Remote Start function.
imposible to see where the transmitter is
Different models have different transmitters, and installers may put them in different places.

Thank you for commenting Curtis Schatt! I am so sorry to hear that.
i had 2 of these 7145v remotes programmed for my truck. but the horn beeps twice each time. how can i turn off the horn noise. just want it to lock and unlock
Hi. The function you are talking about is a function of the Viper security system, not the remote. The Viper system should have a "Silent Mode" but how you turn it on may be different for each system. You will need to find out which model of Viper system you have and locate an instruction manual for that model. Without knowing the model of your system, it is impossible to know how to turn on the silent mode. Sorry I could not help.
