I remember all the rappers back in the day were wearing platinum and then out of nowhere it’s stopped being so popular
I purchased a platinum diamond bangle bracelet. When it arrived I was so surprised at how heavy it felt (not being educated on it before I purchased it. I just wanted to be able to say I have a platinum piece). I will say if you can spend the extra on the platinum do so. It just feels more sturdy.
I order a Titanium diamond black ring.. it's very sexy and beautiful quality
I plan on getting some platnium. I love all metals, and I have always been into jewelry.💛
Can you help me for my tuition fee?
Video was perfect . Thank you for the information . I always wondered why platinums value was so much higher .
I'm happy that you're happy, Matthew. Are you shopping for some platinum jewellery at the moment?
- George
I call BS. Despite gold worth 2.25 times more than platinum there are jewelers like Mene that charge the same markup for platinum and gold jewelry. Yet if you go to most jewelry shops you will always find platinum jewelry priced higher than gold equivalents. Burrells you need to provide more transparency and get with the times. We as customers need to start calling out these outdated, unscrupulous jewelers for opaque pricing.
@@timeisahumanconstruct9251 Not exactly.. A 14k gold band at 14 grams is 58% gold or 8.14 grams of pure gold. A 950 platinum band of the same size weighs about 20 grams and is 95% platinum or 19 grams of pure platinum. So while gold costs more than platinum it takes more platinum by weight to make a similar sized ring. And that is just the cost of the metal and not the craftsmanship.
Very educational, thanks. It would have been nice to know the sales ratio between the two. I imagine it isn't very close do to cost.
I love Sarell’s voice so much.
Nice video! Short but informative.
Thank you, kool`stuff! Are you in the middle of researching engagement rings? Or something else?
Burrells Jewellery & Watches Nice video, very informative, short and precise.
Could you please give me some advices on how to spot a real or fake platinum Chain.
I have had a signet ring made in platinum.
You have perfectly explained the question in my mind. Have 2 gold rings exactly the same desihn in 9ct gold. One is a present from mom and one was her own. As I don't wear either and mom passed away a year ago I as thinking of rather making a set of earings. Was wandering about the weight of the different metals. You have explained my question perfectly. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Nice video, thank you. On a mildly pedantic note, I guess you don't add alloys, you add other metals to create your alloy.
What's your opinion on using recycled metals for wedding rings, is there anything to be concerned about
Sounds perfect if it's your 2nd marriage
You did well bro! Great job
Thanks dude. I’ve been wondering for years!
On this moment platinum is only 1052 dllrs worth....29 12-2020
the most important thing is , do they look the same in colour??
The rhodium plating on the white gold gives it the same colour as platinum, yes. But, as Sarel says, the rhodium will need re-plating in the future. Are you looking into some platinum/white gold jewellery, hosinooji?
Whats the main difference of silver and platinum?
Many things! But here are some main differences:
1. Platinum is a much rarer metal and difficult to mine, and a higher price point.
2. The copper in silver reacts with oxygen making it tarnish, whereas Platinum doesn’t change its appearance.
3. Platinum is nearly double the weight of silver.
4. Silver is a much softer metal and so nowhere near as suitable for items such as engagement/wedding rings.
Our jewellery specialists are always happy to answer questions about metals, may I invite you to click the "Contact" page link above?
White gold means silver
Untarnished silver is a brilliantly whiter metal than any platinum alloy. In time, even the whitest platinum-iridium alloy (without rhodium-plating) will form a distinctive patina with use…that would be easily buffed away with repolishing.
Pure silver will react with free sulfur and eventually tarnish. But modern germanium-doped alloys of sterling silver are remarkably tarnish-resistant. (e.g., Argentium® silver)
Platinum is actually a softer metal than cold-worked silver. But that is actually its advantage over silver in gem-setting: with gem-prongs being equally sized, gem-settings are more secure in platinum. One can wrought more delicate designs in platinum than in silver. The harder silver tends to be brittle.
Silver is more heat-conductive than platinum. A similarly-sized large piece of silver will feel more cold to the touch than platinum. (i.e., pure silver, 429 watts per meter-kelvin; pure platinum, 71.6 watts per meter-kelvin)🕊
@@10thMorales I have personally developed my own way of cleaning jewelry with a liquid that removes tarnish and leaves a slight polish without work. . . .
And the Silver ring I have is soooo far removed from any type of Tarnish that it looks like a ring made of Mirrors.
It has a Silvery White finish that resembles the light play that diamond produce when standing in shade out of direct Sunlight.
I have my first piece of platinum in the form of a nose stud. I haven't had much hands on time with it as it is new, and I just replaced my initial nose piercing with this Platinum Diamond stud.
But in a couple of days I will clean this with my solution to see just how Bright White platinum goes.
cMARVEL360 I’m not sure if any silver cleaner can do anything with a platinum piece since a platinum’s patina is mechanical not chemical in nature…plus, platinum is relatively less chemically reactive than silver.
But problem for Platinum, most goldsmith won’t want to trade it in. At least in my country Malaysia
yes man
Good video, precise and informative. I have some questions. For a platinum chain, which one is best in terms of durability, 850, 900 or 950? Are there some ways to spot fake platinum?
I would say that the 950 will be most durable as it has the highest purity of the three options, but this is so marginal that if will not make that much of a difference in a chain. It will also depend on what the other alloys are in the metal.
The easiest and by far best way to spot a fake platinum chain is to do a acid test on the metal, so I will recommend taking the chain to a reputable jeweller that has the correct tools to do that test for you. The golden rule is only buy from someone that you trust. Where are you based?
- George & Sarel
Burrells Jewellery & Watches Thank you very much for your prompt and helpful answer. I’m based in Japan. Here most of the chains and necklaces sold in stores are very thin, between 0.6 and 0.8mm in gold and platinum. That's why I asked you about their durability since I'm afraid they might break? They look so fragile...
@@cinefala Yes I agree that any chain that is this thin will be fragile and will be prone to breaking. The alloy of the metal will not really have much impact on something this thin
Burrells Jewellery & Watches hi Burrells Jewellery & I Watches I have a question. I have a ring and it is from Japan and it has a Mark Pt950 D0.60ct and i dont understand...is it worth high?
I like white gold over gold. I just ordered a 18k white gold chain. But...I found a place in South Korea that specializes in platinum, ByEnzo. I shot them an email to see if they can make a chain as small as 1.2mm and make it a Franco chain. So, we'll see. Platinum is a good investment for me as a chain, since I prefer white gold over gold. I want to keep my chain white as long as possible. Hence why I went with a 18k white gold chain vs a 14k white gold chain. I also have a small pendant in 18k white gold. I can also turn around and sell my platinum chain if I want.
Yes you've certainly got options with your white gold chain, cjack. What design is your white gold pendant?
- George
Good info. Thanks.
Music too loud, distracting and irritating. Sorry.
If it's just a plating why bother to have gold underneath? Is there any benefit to using other metals as the base material? I just want something shiny and silver looking that doesn't wear off easily. What's best for Quality silver looking jewelry?
Rhodium plated silver
Nice video buddy clear all doubts thanx💍
I have recently taken a fancy to rose gold. There was a faze about black hills gold while I was growing up which I shunned. But, what is the difference?
You don't have to rhodium plate your white gold. if the alloy is high palladium the final effect is a more gun metal colour. The French have always called it grey gold. I find it the ideal colour for men's jewellery. It's the same colour all the way through and maintains it's polish, unlike platinum which can look dull and flat after a few years wear.
I like your video. Currently, I believe roughly platinum is $800 per ounce, gold about $1200 per ounce. I understand the difference in malleability that you mention in your video, but aside from that, shouldn’t platinum jewelry be less expensive than yellow gold? Thank you.
There quite a few factors that influence the price of Platinum and Gold jewellery. The prices you have quoted ($800 for Platinum and $1200 for gold) is the price for the metal in its purest form before it is alloyed.
Platinum is a much heavier metal than gold. So if you look at a same ring in the two metals, Platinum will weigh at least 30 percent more than the same Gold piece. As you pay for the weight of the item the Platinum piece will end up weighing more than the Gold version. This is reflected in the cost. It could also be that the piece of jewellery were created and bought form the manufacturers before the price of Platinum dropped so dramatically. Retailers will try to adjust their prices in line with the fluctuating metal prices but can’t go lower than the original cost price payed.
If this trend of Platinum costing less than Gold continues, the prices will correct itself when the old stock has been sold.
Cool One good
Jewelry made from platinum is usually alloyed using ruthenium or a similar metal from the “platinum group” to increase surface hardness and scratch resistance. Most commonly, it is 95% platinum and 5% ruthenium (that is what ROLEX Wristwatches use).
Gold is now under 2K, it was just over 2K not long ago, Gold will never fold, Platinum is rare, China has the most Gold in the world, China will not allow the Gold to crash, from the time of the Great Mansa Musa, Gold held its value and it will do more than that when OMAHA goes broke and, the US dollar goes to shit water, Gold whipped everybody in the market, Gold is the Goat, including your USD, the DeDollarazation has begun, the Dollar period has felt the decline, Oswald Spengler, go read him, this is not new. Anyway, Lao Feng Xiang in Vancouver got some very nice 950 Platinum Chains, Mene's is cool but, Mene has few selections for Platinum.
Buillons are not the same as Jewelry but, All Metals will have a premium, unless you do it all yourself.

What’s the maintenance for platinum? I know for gold you have to re-coat it with rhodium but what do you do when platinum goes dull after some time?
Is it true platinum scratches more easier than white gold?
is platinum shiny all the way through or does it have a rocky look when broken in half?
No metal is shiny all the way through; the surface is only shiny because it has been filed and polished. Metal solidifies into a crystalline structure (which is that rocky crackled surface you can see in the middle). If jewellery has cracked in half, it could mean that the metal is brittle... this is not normal as one of the properties for precious metals is the malleability of it.
Would you like to speak to one of our specialists about getting jewellery repaired? Also, nice username 🙃
platinum is less than half the price of gold on the metal market.... platinum is $1000 an ounce... gold is $2400
But a platinum piece is much more expensive because it’s so much more dense. For the same size you need much more of it.
@@JimConzelmanFor the same volume, the mass of platinum is approximately 1.1 times that of gold. Not big deal.
Great explanation
Thank you! Are you researching jewellery?
@@BurrellsUkI’m looking to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend, I want something that will look as beautiful in ten years, as it did the day I give it to her. Would you recommend Platinum over white gold for that?
Thanks so much!!
Very good explain bro
I wana buy this
The explanation.❤👍👍👏👏👏👏
0:58 what's the meaning of "wears slower" ?
I’ve learned that gold loses material over the years due to abrasion ... that means your wedding band made of gold will weigh less after a couple of years, while the same ring made of platinum won’t lose a significant amount of material and stays more or less as heavy as it is.
I think you mix between Metallic Gold paint and White to make platinum Gold.
Platinum isn't Gold, it's a completely different element. Metallic paint isn't involved in the creation of fine jewellery.
Thank you for posting.😎✌😇👏
i was looking to see which metal had the best bright white shine to choose for a ring i want to have custom made. unsure whether to go with white gold, platinum or even silver. do you make custom jewerly?
Silver has the most shine
Easy, silver. Or even better, stainless steel 😂
Devo fare una lega con metallo giallo e metallo bianco per farlo diventare 18 carati come devo fare che percentuale devo fare
Both is too expensive. So I like Stainless steel or Titanium or Tuscan diamonds jewelry.. Save cost
I see why Jotaro called his Stand Star Platinum.
you mentioned platnium never changes color, what about patina? Doesnt it dull over the years and have an antique look to it? Is there anyway to undo that? Will polishing completly remove it?
No. Polishing actually removes material so it’s not recommended
I can’t convince my grandma that rose gold is an alloy of gold and copper lmao 🤣 she thinks rose gold is pure gold for some weird reason idk why
I was told that platinum, while denser and harder than gold, suffers from creep, meaning that the shape will shift over time. Do you know if that is true?
Something else that I am trying to determine is how significantly the quality of white gold can vary. Does the plating thickness widely vary? Since it is plated, does adding palladium matter all that much?
Thank you.
18 carrots haein,not 22.
I just don't see the point of 'white' gold, when, since it's plated with rhodium, is hidden anyway! Rhodium looks cheap too because they use it everywhere. It looks like cheap chainstore stuff. Give me the lustre and richness of pure yellow gold anytime, or the beautiful metallic patina of pure platinum. They even manage to adulterate stirling silver by coating it with rhodium, mainly because silver oxidizes over time and needs maintenance, but that is the beauty of silver and why it was always considered a precious metal for thousands of years. But what do they do to it - they obliterate it's natural beauty, so you really can't tell what the metal is these days.
Very good point, Sir. White gold jewellery is something that is made of gold, but which you would like to hide.😂 Gold is too flamboyant in some cases.
Perfect
platinum is only costly because it is heavenly used in the car Industry like catalytic converters...
*Palladium 😉
Is faf du plessis is your brother or relative
How about a gold/palladium alloy I know it doesn't wear like the rhodium coated rings do. But is it the same bright white color
Good question, Ruben... A high Palladium alloy percentage is considered to be the best colour mix to make 18ct white gold. This, unfortunately, does not provide the same white brightness as Platinum nor would it have the same density as Platinum. This alloy does not have the same yellow tinge as the more commonly seen cast 18ct white gold, however, this high Palladium mix is still rhodium plated in order to give a much brighter overall white finish to it.
What jewellery are you researching? Engagement ring, pendant, earring?
Nice
I have ah platenum 1/4kelo.
