At its height, Overwatch possessed one of the most advanced armaments on the planet, which could be traced to the workshop of an ingenious engineer named Torbjörn Lindholm. In the aftermath of Overwatch's fall, many of Torbjörn's weapons were stolen or stashed away around the world. Feeling responsible for his creations, Torbjörn is determined to stop them from falling into the wrong hands and wreaking havoc on the innocent.
Torbjörn's arsenal includes a rivet gun and forge hammer that he uses to build upgradable turrets and create armor packs for himself and his allies.

And his ultimate has changed “The molten core” where he throws an actual molten core on ground that makes ton of damage..

Allrighty TF2 nublets, time for another lesson.
I will be comparing the lovely Torbjorn here with our beloved Engineer.
I will not tolerate any comments saying that I missed a spot or that I am an idiot, the former may happen and I will discover it on my own, and the latter is simply not true. However, constructive criticism is appreciated.
How they are alike.
-Can build a turret.
-Turrets can be upgraded to level 3.
-Uses scrap to repair/upgrade turret.
-Has a rivet gun that can function as a pistol.
-It can also function as a shotgun.
-They have to hit the turret to upgrade/repair it.
-The turrets both have good tracking AI.
How they are different.
-The engineer can build a dispenser and a pair of teleporters as well as a sentry, Torbjorn cannot.
-(unless otherwise noted) Torbjorn does not have a way, other than activating Molten Core, to swiftly upgrade his sentry, neither can he speed up construction.
-The rivet gun is a pistol AND a shotgun, also has unlimited ammo.
-The engineer does not have the ability for an ultimate, nuff said.
-Torbjorn has 300 health and ARMOR, the Engineer has 125.
-Torbjorn's sentry builds quicker.
-His sentry is more of two auto cannons and a rocket launcher than 2 rapid fire mini-guns and a quad rocket launcher.
-Torbjorn is not a Texan and the Engineer is not a Swede.
-I am running out of things to say, insert your own comment here.
Christopher Wagner This is not meant to discourage your personal opinion from the differences but...
Build time - This all has to do with game speed. Honestly this game just seems faster paced so the sentries build at relatively the same pace if considering each game's pace.
Sentry Characteristics - Both have 2 machine guns, and a rocket launcher...I mean that is literally what both of them are. The "Quad Rockets" is just an aesthetic choice and in almost no way does it differ from regular rockets except damage (and even then, different rocket launchers, also differ in damage)
Health - Generally both characters are weak and frail. 125hp in overwatch is like 75hp in tf2 so the ratio of health from the engie/torbjorn to the other classes is practically the same.
Character Characteristics - Both characters are short, seemingly older than the other classes and come from a "rural" area of the world.
Ammo - Kinda small but if you count a dispenser, the engie also practically has unlimited ammo lol
I mean the others "differences" are solid, like Torbjorn spawning armor and the obvious ultimates, but to be honest these characters are carbon copies lol.

i have over 900 hours logged on tf2 and love the game (obviously) but I REALLY hope Overwatch is a tf2 killer...

They really need to bring back old Torbjörn's ability to upgrade his torrents; now what made him unique as a hero is missing in his kit.
Absolutely love the idea of throwing out armour packs for team mates.
It's like if the Engy in TF2 could give people overheals. People don't have to trudge back to his dispenser in order to get some use out of him.
If people have to back track as bad as you made it sound, that is a bad engineer. A dispenser should be near the field but in a safe spot, not far away

I like a defense builder in every game. This game has two with Symmetra which is awesome. And their weapons are so completely different. I love this class. Will be the one I play the most next to Reinhardt.

Could the sentry turret be any more a direct copy from TF2? Seriously, that's not just artistic styling, that's how the sentry looks and works, transformations and all.
I thought of that too, but it doesn't look the same. The leveling system is similar with shooting missiles at level 3.
I don't really think there was anything wrong with TF2's system, so why not use it? It's not like absolutely everything in Overwatch was ripped directly from TF2, so something like this can be overlooked. Plus, since most players will be fans of class based shooters, or TF2 specifically, the mechanics of the sentry and look of the sentry are already in people's minds. Why have someone learn to dodge something new when they already know what to look out for?
He gets scraps from dead players, has an ultimate skill that is OP and can drop armor. He is more powerful than the engineer in TF2. Also the last two powers make him very important in battle. Plus that every game rocks when it has turrets xD (P.S: The engineer in TF2 looks soooo booooring for me at least)
Okay, and how would you suggest they make it different? Have him warp the buildings in? Symetra. Summon it from darkness? Encroaching on Reaper. Without being vague about it, ("they could do something like this") say something specific that would make it stand out from what TF2 has done.

Obviously torbjörn really like the molten core raid and he is a true wow player
torb in early ow was so much fun, i hated his rework so much down the line that i quit the game for like 2 years. he was very balanced and skill based, that served as great push holder or an amazing ambush class if timed correcly. i had like 90% collectibles on him and my only golden gun. such a shame to see what i think was probably one of the coolest designed heroes for the first few seasons(despite terribly underrated) have such a downfall in affect in game. super weak and easely counterable
I miss this version of Torbjorn, it was fun to build the turrets by hand instead of just throwing them.
I miss the armour packs a lot more.

His gun can change to fire like a shotgun or slugs kinda like a weapon in unreal tournament.
I'm confused, does the thing where he uses his gear-robot-hand thing to help hammer the turret show up in 3rd person? I watched this and other Overwatch videos/trailers and I didn't get a clear sight at Torbjörn doing that.

In all seriousness why can't we treat these two as separate games? I love Team Fortress 2 and I'm looking forward to trying Overwatch when I can.

If tf2 were slightly less popular this wouldn't be happening as much. I'm going to agree with you. I've loved tf2 since i started, this looks great as well. I assure you though that the majority of people who are bagging on it are going to try it anyway. lol
I don't want to hate on Overwatch, but you gotta admit that a short white guy with a shotgun and a pistol whose main ability is a small low health and dps turret that assists in battle sounds a lot like gunslinger engie.
