    Amazing how so much has changed in the 18 months since the WAC made this announcement! They never added the 14th school and 8th football school. I thought West Texas would be that school, but the President made it clear they were staying in D2. Then Commerce, who would have been an ideal 8th football school, accepted an invitation to the Southland.
    Lamar went back to the Southland. New Mexico St and Sam Houston went to CUSA. UIW accepted, then decided to stay in the Southland. They did add a school, UT Arlington, but they don't have football and don't intend to bring back football anytime soon.
    Tarleton wants to go FBS, and they are gone once they are full D1, I think this is their 3rd transition year, and get an invitation.
    GCU, CBU, Seattle are all hoping they get to replace BYU in the WCC. As of now, it appears the WCC stays at 9 schools, so each school gets a bigger share of the Gonzaga NCAA money.

      Tarleton's likely in C-USA soon. And the Lake Charles writer who broke previous SLC adds says SFA AD won't be there much longer and has heard they'll move back after he's out.
      This whole thing blew up. None of these schools saw the UT/OU move and subsequent ripple effect (NMSU/SHSU) coming so soon.

    If the WAC wants to move up to FBS it should have UTEP, NM State, Sam Houston State, SFA, McNeese State, Tarleton State, and maybe Idaho and Eastern Washington and Portland State?

      I think the WAC/FBS dream is dead in the water now with NMSU/SHSU out. Also, the NCAA by-laws are being rewritten, and I bet that loophole is removed entirely.

    I know this video was made before the news of the 3 new A-Sun members had an agreement with the WAC. EKU, Jacksonville State and Central Arkansas will be football associate members of the WAC beginning this fall. The A-Sun is looking to get it's sixth football school within a year or two. Tarleton State and Dixie State are not eligible until 2024 for a conference championship & postseason play.

      Great info. IIRC, JSU AD was originally adamant there'd be no WAC/ASUN hybrid, so an anticipated addition must've fallen apart for the ASUN for this year.

      @@d1_360 The A-Sun commissioner stated that the A-Sun will begin their football season in the fall of 2022 on the cause that they are looking for a mystery school. It's' kind of late for the JSU AD to be adamant about being an football associate member the WAC right after the schedules are ready. JSU agreed with EKU and Central Arkansas tp play the 2021 football season in the WAC. That will hurt the alliance in the future.. He must of knew of this when he had a meeting of the A-Sun commissioner.

      @@d1_360 What sucks is that A-Sun members Steson is playing in the Pioneer League and Liberty is playing independent FBS football. Jacksonville just dropped their football program.😣 I read the NCAA rules of transition. First 2 years nothing, the last 2 years the program in transition can win the conference championship. But not eligible to compete in the NCAA championship.

    @D1 360 Did you say that Texas A&M Kingsville might merge with Texas Corpus Christi? 🤔 That happened a few years ago in the Eastern Region, D2 Pace (football) merged with D1 Long Island University (non football) and became LIU Sharks. The NCAA grant the football program a waiver because LIU is a full member of the NEC. I think the NCAA will do the same for Texas CC. Because they are a full member of the Southland Conference.

    • @d1_360
      @d1_360  3 года назад

      And they got rid of the iconic Long Island Blackbirds name which dated back to when LIU was an early D1 BB pioneer. LIU-Brooklyn alums were pissed!

      Actually it was D2 LIU Post (football) merged with LIU Brooklyn (non football)

      @D1 360 yea I can't believe they ditched it. Probably some out of market designer knowing nothing about the nickname or the school designed it

    West Texas A&M used to be a former 1A independent in football. The AD there have been slamming the D2 leadership recently.

      West Texas A&M has D1 facilities for sure. They have some historical ties with New Mexico St. It'll be interesting if those get rekindled.

    Central Oklahoma is another candidate to go Southland. They have plans to expand their stadium capacity even more.
    Texas Souther out of the SWAC raised some concerns about Grambling and Southern U.'s budget like the same with the Louisiana schools in the Southland, but the Southland schools spend a little more money than the SWAC Louisiana schools.
    As for ASUN? North Carolina A&T had eyes for FBS. If they do go to the ASUN? Could Texas Southern jump to the WAC?

    • @dalemcilwain
      @dalemcilwain 3 года назад

      North Carolina A&T will be a full member of the Big South. The only 2 schools that are playing football currently in the Big South and is moving to the A-Sun Conference is North Alabama & Kennesaw State. The other A-Sun school is Stetson and they play non scholarship football in the Pioneer League.
