it works even on ps5, try to time your jump perfectly like in the video. My frame stopped in place I kept hitting r1 and leaving the stick forward. takes a few minutes but this guy is a genius thanks
Still works as of 5/24/24!! Just make sure once ya get the runes and dagger, ASAP go back to the site of grace otherwise the death animation comes up!!I was lucky enough to run back and recollect the runes right by the jump spot..PHEW!! Theres another video on how to access the grace point where Commander Neil is so just navigate there and ya can progress fine. Ya can still go thru the castle from the main entrance but some hard ass enemies (2 huge wolves guarding the front gate, beware!)
As of patch 1.12, I think this no longer works and has been patched. It seems like there's a new kill plain during the fall, at the terrain you see at 1:34

This is my take on it from play past souls games: There are death planes at the edges of cliffs. However, while those death planes activate rather quickly vertically, there's a horizontal threshold, so if you jump far enough, the death plane/death cam will not activate. Furthermore, while there is rendered parts of the map, there's no collision so your character just passes through the terrain. As you keep falling, the world/level above starts to despawn, including the arena where the boss is, but the game still registers your location, in this case, Castle Sol. When you enter an area where there's a boss, especially if they have an enclosed arena, it'll spawn the model for the boss but the AI won't become active until you pass through the fog gate, but that's all the game really needs for the boss to still be considered (somewhat) active. So during the fall, when the world despawns, the boss also falls through the world, except for them their death plane is very much still active, unlike yours.
