      Amen! And each other. This is what other countries have told me… “Why respect a culture whereas they do NOT respect their own.” They (black people in the masses do NOT help their own grow and climb the financial ladder). In order to have world dominance, many/most of us would need to be wealthy and carry ourselves with dignity. You see how all the other races circulate their currency within their race significantly more than the black races? They are strengthening their own globally by doing this. We also have to make black individuals who are willing to sell out their own. (These are typical and daily debates that we had at my HBCU... as well as what I have observed over time.)

    I'm black...found a wonderful man in Italy but also experienced blatant racism by a security guard at a museum. He screamed and accused me of having a knife in my bag. I opened my back pack and all I had was a bottle of vitamins and a croissant. 🥴 He was very embarrassed for the whole scene made and apologized. The incident shook me up so badly all I could do was go back to my hotel. I cried and hid in my room for two days, as it was so traumatic. As we have seen from history, ignorance is an almost incurable disease, and takes many forms, understanding the nonsense of it should just make you laugh and understand that by them thinking that way, by not being comparable, you're already a better human being.
      I hate whichever institution created these racial ideas, for humanity and the rest of the animal kingdom, they're used very differently. A simple variation in skin tone is not a different race, we are all one, humanity, with different demographics and origins of ancestry, which still leads back to the same place... We don't even have a subspecies lol or that would be neanderthals and so on. So who TF thought race was good for differentiating the shades of man? Also scientifically, genetic diversity is the best thing lol, mating with your own demographic creates a very limited gene pool, which brings in mutations, the bad types.

At a party, a man announced loudly " You are by far, the best looking woman here!" Even the women were exceedingly kind to me and very helpful, especially when I needed directions. Only Black people who actually live in Italy can speak to what that experience is like. I have visited various regions of Italy, too, and had a wonderful time, overall. Nevertheless, I would never doubt the experiences of Blacks who actually live there. One Italian woman made a racist remark to me at a restaurant, and I chose to ignore her. Oddly, I also saw Italian men dressed in Black face costumes for an event during the winter holidays. It was very disturbing to see, but because I don't speak the language, I could not question people about what I saw. It definitely made me feel uncomfortable.
      Despite these 2 negative incidents, I enjoyed my trip, as a tourist, and I love the Italian culture, the food, the architecture, the fine art, the opera, and so forth. Racism against Blacks is a global phenomenon. Blacks are the original race. Furthermore, Blacks are very talented, intelligent, and beautiful people, so the envy reflects the insecurities and self-hatred of those who perpetrate racism. The problem lies deep within them.

      @@takumifujiwara9181 I guess it depends on the hour as well, here in Italy around 8/9 and 16/17 it’s difficult to get into any taxi, and the streets are packed with people and cars, but yeah, I don’t think there’s any racist issue, it’s just a taxi, and also, it’s not that common here to stop taxis in the street, there are parking lots reserved for taxis and there you can find them waiting for people. Sometimes here in busy cities you HAVE to ask the hotel for taxi reservations because there are some moments of the day when you need to have it.

    • @jenniferjemison636
      @jenniferjemison636 9 месяцев назад +361

      The taxi wasn't the only issue, as I've said before. It just highlighted what had been a series of people looking you in your face with hostility when you said good morning. Also, the butcher shop refused to sell us, although we were sent by the people at the corner who knew him. The hotel who put us in a backstreet apartment, although we had booked months ahead for the main hotel. Let me not mention the behavior of the front desk clerk and how she treated us after we stood there and heard her being nice to the Caucasian guests.
      We are not bad travelers and know that you treat people the way you want to be treated.
      We appreciated the gentleman who came to our rescue and don't think all Italians are the same. However, there were too many incidents that ruined the experience for us. Hence, me saying I'd rather go where I feel more welcome. Thank you very much.

      Racism is so rooted in Italy and so as in any white country. This is just how it is. So, as a white person, you need to aknowledge that, admit it to yourself and adopt daily anti-racist thoughts and behaviours to improve. She thought nothing of it and went and sat in a different section of the train. A few minutes into the journey this white woman walked up to her and started yelling at her in Italian. She couldn’t understand and so asked the white man sitting next to her to translate. Basically she was mad that my friend who is black was sitting in the with them and told her to move to the compartment at the back with the other blacks. She was really aggressive and threatening. Nobody said a word or stood up for her. So for her own safety she went to the back. She asked one of the black men about it and he said he had lived there for years and it’s just always been that way. This was about 8 years ago. Italy has a huge problem. It’s has completely changed my attitude towards all Italian because this attitude is tolerated by Italians who say they aren’t racist. It not enough to not be racist, to truly change thing you have to be ANTI racist. Someone should have stood up for my fiend and called out that racist woman but they kept their head down and said nothing. That makes them no better. All I know is had that been me. I was struggling with my heavy travel bag up a flight of stairs at the train station, and a random Italian guy took it and carried it all the way up. Then went his way. I missed my train stop that same night. An Italian couple who'd been in the train took me in their car all the way back, through the streets, to the address I was staying at. It was my first trip to Italy, and I met mostly kindness. There are r@cists everywhere. People always find something to h@te others for. It's so lovely reading of your experience here in this corner of RUclips. The Shorts section sees a lot of hyperfast consumption of information, quicker than people can digest and process. Ideas and topics that evoke strong reactions are often, sadly, attached to sorrowful or divisive aspects of our human experience. Even more reason for us to remind others that a real experience is defined by these contrasting things and we are a lot better off learning how to coexist. Balance over uniformity. Like you said beautifully at the end, even if we all looked the same, there will be those who fixate on another aspect unique to this or that person. Better to let be, because there are better things to see.

Racists are everywhere in the world and there's nothing we can do about it. I've spent my life with wonderful people alongside me that never once even had an ouce of racism in them and some not so great people that you can bump into every so often who discriminate against you simply because you don't look the same as them. As much as it sucks that not much can be done, the recent generations are much more open and accepting of different people. But the women....now they were awful...I remember going into a store in Rome to shop and was asked to leave for literally no reason. I mean nothing happened...there was no argument or fighting. There were only a hand full of tables and they were not busy. It took 1 hour to get one round of drinks and the only thing I could think of was there had to be some type of racism at play. We watched our server to go to other tables numerous times and skip over us. It was extremely disappointing. We left sober and annoyed.

Usually, racial prejudice, no matter what skin colour it’s against, derives from negative experiences or perceptions, whether justified or unfounded. Americans need to learn about other cultures, the dos and don'ts before visiting those countries. That way you can enjoy your stay.

    There’s something genuinely wrong with this comment section. I’ve never seen many people lack basic comprehension and empathy. Videos like these are intended to help other black travelers to be careful in certain places because simply being black in some places can be dangerous. People doing mental gymnastics to deny racism and invalidate the experiences that black people go through (and have been going through for YEARS which is why we know what call out), is telling that y’all are not educated or well traveled yourselves. We’re not seeking to be liked by everyone, we’re seeing BASIC human decency and respect, which we should ALL get. And to point out places that have repeatedly had a problem meeting those standards is to give a realistic view of some of these places that are overhyped. If you’ve been to these places and haven’t had an issue or don’t mind that these issues exist, FINE! But that’s YOUR experience/decision, not everyone wants to be subjected to that bigotry 😒
