Thank you guys for all your comments so far! I have a few video ideas that have come from this already. I will keep watching for more comments and I look forward to seeing more ideas!
Another rabbit person here! The thing that drew me to this channel was rabbit content from an actual veterinarian, as opposed to just (well intentioned and often experienced) rabbit owners, which is what most of the RUclips rabbit content is. I imagine there are other underserved pet communities looking for vet produced content. Perhaps, birds, reptiles, fish, and other small mammals?
I started watching you because I'm a new bunny mom. It is nice to have a vet familiar with rabbits to turn to and learn. I appreciate you. I also already watched your dog allergy video, I love dogs. Maybe a follow-up video for at home remedies to help relieve the symptoms or ease the discomfort for some of the allergies? :)
thanks for the support I appreciate it! I actually made a video about that called Stop Itching Fast: How to manage Dog Allergies at home, hope that helps! (and welcome to the channel)
I started watching your channel when my bunny got gi stasis. Most rabbit videos aren't about rabbit illnesses and your videos are very informative for a person who doesn't think of their rabbit as a "disposable" pet. Rabbits can die very quickly if you don't have educational information on how to help them. I liked the video where you showed how to syringe feed a bunny. It really helped! My bunny is fine now. I would think there would be alot of people interested in dog diseases like diabetes, allergies, arthritis. I have a senior dog who is deaf, can't go up or down steps and barks continually. He is diabetic and has to pee ALL the time so I have to carry him up and down the steps multiple times a day. He's wearing me out. So maybe do videos about senior dog problems and how to know when it's time to let them go as well as all dogs. Thank you so much for what you do! 🐕 🐰
Maybe on site videos.. Like at work during your day as a Veterinarian. That would be interesting because I would get a well rounded idea of all the animals you see during your day.. I would like to see your day at farms that you get called out to.. I believe you are very good with telling us as a Veterinarian what you know about the health of animals.. I really enjoy your channel..
One of the rabbit-specific people here ;) If you put the content out there, they will come! Maybe try to produce the content you would like to share with others, at a slower pace if you need to for your personal and work life, and make sure to include some footage of animals whenever possible. People who love animals really, REALLY love to watch animals. If you love cattle, I would love to learn more about them. I am personally a vegetarian but I like learning about human/animal relationships. I have family who raise chickens much like pets and they might like to see that kind of content if you are willing to share! Things on enriching animals’ life, etc. Thank you for your content and your willingness to share. I look forward to more rabbit content and otherwise! 🐰
Dr. Dawson please do a video about tracheal collapse. I just had to have my 15 year old Bichon put to sleep. Now I think my other dog, who is his daughter, may have the same thing only not as bad yet. My Vet said he was too far along to treat and doesn't give cough medicine anyway. Also, maybe a video about grieving dogs? Last of all a video about intermittent soft cecotropes in rabbits. I have 2 rabbits, same diet one has soft cecotropes the other one is fine. I have to clean her bottom every few days. Thanks for all you videos! Very informative!
I will see what I can do, Tracheal collapse is definitely a topic I want to address, (it may be a few weeks down the road) As far as the Cecotropes go, I would consider maybe a pro-biotic or increasing the amount of fiber in their diets. And possibly have your veterinarian do a fecal float to look for any signs of parasites. I may make a video about that in the future, I'll put it on the idea list for sure!
I'm definitely one of the people who has been watching because of rabbit content (only recently subscribed but have been watching for a while) - and I found you because I adopted two rabbits with chronic snuffles. As a first time rabbit owner there is a lot to learn! I think rabbit care has changed a lot over the last few decades, and I love that your videos show they are not disposable pets. We take them to a vet that specialises in rabbit care, but because of covid we can't go into the treatment room with the vet or veterinary nurse, and so these videos have been incredibly helpful - there aren't many high quality rabbit care videos by veterinary specialists on RUclips. I do like watching videos about other animals, especially reptiles or other exotic pets, so would definitely be interested (probably less so in cats and dogs). I think if it's possible seeing you do checks on some of your patients might be really interesting - I think those videos tend to do quite well on RUclips. However, they are probably pretty intense to film. Honest opinion: I love farm animals like cows, pigs, chickens and goats and am interested in their veterinary care or rescue/pet animals, but as I am a vegan I'd probably struggle to watch those videos if they were very obviously animals in animal agriculture - knowing they would end up as beef/meat etc would just break my heart and I think I'd avoid the videos in the first place. I just don't see animals as food, just like other people might not see dogs and cats as food. When I look up videos about rabbits I try to avoid rabbits farms or graphic videos, and I kind of wish there was some type of filter on RUclips to split these type of videos. I understand other people don't feel the same way, but just thought I'd share my personal thoughts.
I’m also a rabbit owner and really enjoyed the rabbit related content but I just like the other people here would like to see other underserved pet communities!
Maybe this is a good time to run an experiment. How about you take the next 3 months or so and create all the Dr. Dawson topics you can to see what clicks. Maybe you'll end up with multiple cores of interest.
Talking about the things you want to talk about I think will be a great idea regardless. If you only talk about things you're not really interested in, then eventually motivation for that will run dry I suspect. So I do encourage you to talk about all the things you've mentioned, regardless of the type of people who watch your videos now. Because not only will you get rabbit/cattle/etc.-loving people to watch your videos, but people who are interested in any kind of animals, and a lot of all of those niche or more general topics will keep attracting people and some will even stay. Building anything, such as a channel, will always require time and patience, especially if it's of a topic that YT's algorithm already doesn't favour as much as other topics. However, if you keep growing, eventually it will work. I know a few people who have interests in specific animals, for example insects, avian and reptiles. While most of them do like felines and canines, their interest has more of a preference for "niche" animals. Keep doing what you're doing, doctor, and hope you keep having fun making these videos for others! (EDIT:) I do also want to add that making money off of YT videos might take a long time. However, there are other means to make an income. If you haven't already, perhaps think of a Patreon? Give patrons a chance to watch videos before they're released on YT. Maybe post some photo's of some animals you've helped (if the owners allow?), and other such content could be an idea. I don't know, I hope it gives you some food for thought.
This may be 2 years since you first posted this video, but I'd love videos about dog skin allergies, and the use of chlorhexidine gluconate for disinfecting surfaces and cage cleanings or in vet settings and for treating animal wounds to understand safe application for common user. I've heard it's good for sore hocks, but my sister's dog has the worst skin. I was wondering if this would help the dog.
The vanity of man condemned him to a life of ignorance concerning the sentiments of other life-forms. Rabbits guinea pigs rats fish and insects. Sentient life-forms but I would recommend your videos to someone who is having cat or dog problems if I show any of them. I find your videos educational. Too many people do treat their pets a s disposable toys
I LOVE cows and all animals but they are not BEEF to me. They deserve to live as much as dogs and cats and rabbits. You should not be killing cows for beef. It’s cruel and not necessary. I will not support your channel if you care for animals and then make them beef. I hope you are not raising them for meat. Please clarify. I would like to learn more about other animals health - cows, pigs and chickens are my favourite next to rabbits. Please do not support slaughter. ❤️
