+john tracy I'm torn on that sentiment, but I think so many westerns are up there, it's hard to decide. High Noon... The Shootist.... Unforgiven.... Magnificent Seven.... The 1936 version of Three Godfathers (starts off shaky, but has a strong ending), those movies can't be ignored either. It's impossible for me to say this is the best, because all of those movies were so unique and powerful in what they set out to accomplish, I can't compare them. Then, I also LOVE the Maverick Movie, just for a good fun time.
There is 3:00 minutes of silence at the end of the song. That is the time it takes your brain to recover from hearing such a master piece and letting it cool down so it can function properly again. Kinda like a cool down at the end of a work out.
"When you listen to Mozart, the silence that follows is still Mozart" said Sacha Guitry. In my humble opinion, this sentence can be said to all composer of this caliber, such as, indeed, maestro Morricone !
When I was a kid, my dad, brother and I would play this song on a record player and play the standoff between the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly to this song and try to outshoot each other. It was a lot of fun doing that.

Whole table goes silent for 8 minutes. The dad is trying to decide who he wants to kill first. The brother is trying to construct the perfect excuse and an escape plan at the same time. The boyfriend realizing the mistake he made while also contemplating what the fuck he just witnessed when her brother reached for the salt, also figuring out an escape plan as well. Meanwhile the mother and daughter are wondering if they should leave or not.
Was walking through the record shop when I noticed a man rummaging through the clearance discount section with a considerably large stack of vinyls next to him. I assumed they were his, but I went in for a closer look, seeing that he snagged The Good The Bad and The Ugly for only a few bucks and in pretty good condition. As if he sensed my very being approaching his hidden gem, his hand snapped to the vinyl, securing it under his arm, and he looked up at me. I smiled, saying to him, "real good find." He laughed and said thanks. I've just come home to listen to some Ennio Morricone. God dammit that should have been me
This epic piece of music with the Leone's genius shots, made the ending scene of "The Good, The Bad.." my favourite scene of all time. No one could ever imagine that a simple and expectable ending senario could be made up to be so great and worth watching million times! This is pure art

But unfortunately he loved his friend nevertheless and on his deathbed (60 years later) he decided that he wouldnt rest in peace until he found a greater song.- Legend says, he is still seeking.
This is one of the most epic soundtracks in history, and not just for the theme. The strings, the horns, everything is just executed perfectly. This song, The Ecstasy of Gold and The Sundown are my favorites from the soundtrack.
I can see Angel Eyes reaching for his gun as the music kicks in, Tuco and Blondie locking eyes, the moment everyone knew would come when they finally face off and then, BAM!... one of the best movie endings ever and it's not even over at that point.

Incredibly epic piece of music and equally epic movie scene. People are so ADD these days directors don't dare film a scene this long where seemingly little happens for fear the audience will groan about the lack of action and explosions.
yeah i agree it is unbelievable that all modern day moviedirectors think that you need a cut every 5-10 seconds taking all the aktion away from one scene. I mean manny people would go to the cinema if a movie of this quality was showed/reincarnated with 4K. I think the cinema that would do this would make thousands of dollars. But it is still sad to see that the good old movies sometimes do not get the respect they deserve.

I'm not trying to say you're wrong, but movies like The Godfather, The Shawshank Redemption, The Dark Knight, or The Empire Strikes Back can be argued as better than that.
This happens to be the best of the best. I own the dvd and the soundtrack. Morricone is a master when it comes to scoring films! This score should have won an Oscar and a Grammy.
Forever changed the landscape of westerns and set the standard to which all subsequent westerns were to be compared. Excellent composition that resonates perfectly with the film's theme, acting, and final scene.

I must have played this LP hundreds of times during the 1970s. The music is so haunting that I used to listen to it for hours on end. Likewise, whenever the movie appears on television, I watch it. I never get tired of seeing it. I must get one of those retro turntable record players to listen to this album again!
I often use this as an example of how good acting, filming, and music can make a scene. Because this scene is literally just three guys staring at each other for 5 minutes, but it's one of the TENSEST scenes in all of cinema.
Sergio you are a Genius & with a Genius like Ennio you guys are forever eternal, iconic, masters of the Spaghetti Western movies/culture. May you R.I.P.
