      They’re not donated, but purchased from India or china. India outlawed the sale in the eighties, and China in 2008. Any further provenancing is very difficult, but it’s not great. It’s a fairly unpleasant business. There are plenty of analogs - there’s not really a need to use human bone, so it’s quite disappointing really.

    while pigs are mostly the same as humans anatomically the head is an exception. Pig heads are extremely strong and sturdy. They use them to fight each other by ramming and they also use them to dig. The skull of a pig is very thick and heavy.

      Btw, i can't get over the fact that there are places where you can go as a tourist and look at stacked bones.
      In Paris you got this.
      And in Sedlec near Kutna Hora in Czech republic you also have a very nice display.
      And what is the most crazy is that they have put some of the skulls on display close enough for people to write their name on.
      And people actually write their name on it.
      In Sedlec they have put them so to show how ridiculous some people can be, by writing names on it.
      As a way to hopefully get a bit of respect from the visitors back so that they wont continu the nonsense.

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar 20 дней назад

      This lazy mindset is so annoying. You know you're know better off than the anti-metric crowd, right? If it's this difficult and important to you, try a unit converter on Google. You know, the same way a person uses a translator when they want to understand a language they don't speak. Or stop making excuses for yourself and learn to convert it on your own. Every Canadian learns both imperial and metric in grade school and those of us who went to work in the trades afterward got a 4+ year refresher prior to gaining our certs and licenses specifically because in terms of trade and tourism, we're caught in the middle of the US and Europe's stubbornness and intellectual laziness over the matter. Try building someone a house with building supplies, fixtures and appliances manufactured, sold and imported in both units. We adapted because it's not a big deal to use your brain. What you scoff at as a weakness, some of us consider a strength and we look at the pair of you with the same disappointment.

    I wonder if a tree like this could explode if it was dunked in LN2, so the water doesn't have time to move to the air pockets. Or if they used a big single stream instead of multiple smaller ones. The effect of flash freezing could be a lot bigger.

    The house is not nearly as simple as a box, the internal walls which would trap the air and the results would not be as predictable, you'd have to test house on house basis to figure out the air flow and how it impacts a house. I'm sure for some houses you'd like to open windows but for most it's either neutral or catastrophic decision to open windows.

    • @potatosordfighter666

      I think another issue is that it's supposed to be a 1/2 scale house but they used 2x4s so it would be like 4x8s on a full sized house. As well, a 1/2 scale house is technically 1/8th the size of a real house, and would therefore have 1/8th as much external surface area, and because of the square cube law the wood is proportionally stronger for the size of the house.

      @@MrMarinus18 That test was terrible. In the actual scene her head was only half-submerged and she was screaming, nostrils wide, mouth agape. She presumably inhaled a bunch of nitrogen, so her head would be freezing from the inside as well. Not to mention that her head hit a 90 degree corner on a steel table, and also only the front half of her head shattered in the scene. Doing a side by side comparison the 5-second freeze was the one that was the closest to the movie. It looks more like a frozen watermelon in the movie to be honest.
      The movie takes place in 25 century and all the characters grew up on a different planet. Space travel is fairly common as they are going on a field trip to the now abandoned Earth; who is to say they have the same bone density as people on Earth today...

    did a joke go over my head or they actually used a real skull?

    • @kyuofcosmic
      @kyuofcosmic 6 месяцев назад

      It’s a real human skull. The ones in USA are *usually sold by the deceased via their estate/will. Or donated to science.
      *some absolutely are stolen. But mythbusters do have researchers and are unlikely to purchase illegal remains. They typically get their bones from the Bone Room in CA.
      There is a black market for bones, of all kinds. Bone merchants in India are notorious. Check out Medlife Crisis, a RUclips channel for a video on the topic.

    American windows are so awful and backwards

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar 20 дней назад

      Ignorant people tend to be awful and backwards. We use over a dozen different types of windows made in a variety of materials in America. Single/double hung vertical and horizontal sliders, casement, awning, hopper, center pivot, transom, bay, bow, skylights, etc. Not much different from most other parts of the world because most window styles were already developed and in use long before America was colonized. But most of our windows in America today require more engineering to help maintain a good indoor climate in extreme outdoor temperatures, especially here in Canada. What you're looking at in the video are called single hung vertical sliding vinyl windows. Frame is vinyl, one sash is fixed, the other slides. These are bottom of the barrel windows. What you buy when you need vented glass but don't want to spend a whole lot of $. Prefab single hung vinyl windows are the Kraft dinner of the window world. They could've splurged on a salmon dinner for this episode, but that would be stupid given the circumstances.

    Or you could build your house out of bricks

    • @brutalhellblazer
      @brutalhellblazer 6 месяцев назад

      Water damage is still an issue, I live in Iran and although most houses are built out of bricks and/or concrete, water damaged houses account for a lot of casualties when disasters happen.
      We don't have hurricanes, but I'd think american houses are way less devestating during an earthquake, even if they have water damage.

    I love these guys, but I REALLY don't feel comfortable with using real human skulls. Your mileage may vary. But Kari getting all queasy about the damn pig when human body parts are cool and funny is just... Ick.

      Personally I plan to donate my body to science or allow my next of kin to sell my body. I’m not using it! But I acknowledge not everyone is so blase about death.
      But the squick at pig but not human is kinda weird ngl

    How funny... american houses like this which doesnt have a concrete base, are wooden and flimsy and is no problem to get them on truck and "move" to different location. Anyway, to have opened windows is just stupid, the amount of filth, trash and watter which would go through the house would make it for sure worse.
