Could be me, but while both ballons burst in that last Davy Crocket Shot, the bullet did not hit the center of the blade and did not split - it's still a great shot from 40 yards to get that close - looks like the ballons burst from some shockwave .. if you pause the video in the right moment (41:02) you can see that the bullet is very slightly (but clearly) right of the blade - but it's really close, so kudos for that
The bullet is the projectile, the case, propellant , cap and bullet make a round. The macgyver method won't work there is not enough compression of the powder to do more than burn, not explode
Swimming in 2x syrup still busted for me. One can’t swim further and longer like 2k or 10k swim in syrup compared to water. Their pool was just too short.
@@maxbracegirdle9990Looks like the thought experiment disregards the amount of power the swimmer needs to generate. The higher force needed to push through the syrup cancels out with the higher force you can create with the same swimming motion, resulting in the same speed, that's the thought experiment - but you need more power for that "same swimming motion". So, if you reach your maximum power output by syruping up the water, you will slow down. See: especially Jamie in the thick stuff, he was getting swamped - he was less fit than Adam and reached that limit.
Adam revealed building a pool for this myth was almost impossible, that is why they had to work with whatever they could get away with, aka a tiny pool
The David Crockett shot by the expert was not a split though, if you watch it in slow motion. It's why the editors did the slow mo clip really fast. It went to the right top. Still a nice shot, but not a full mid split. The left balloon explodes from the impact on the blade I think, not the bullet.
Swimming through syrup.... I'm leveling the same argument here, however many decades after the fact, as I did when Brainiac redid these experiements; You guys have _GOT_ to take out the _human_ element of this experiment. Yes, there is more resistence, Yes; there is more theoretical thrust.... So get a 50.000:1 reduction gearbox on the Surfing RoboGrant and throw _that_ through the canals you've dug! That way you have a consistent and unmutable output of force at a steady and predictable rate, and you can measure the gain versus the loss via the surfplank's natural displacement! At least they dug a trench... all brainiac did was have their food flopping around in an oversized kiddy pool...
How about the opposite of swimming in syrup: swimming in something 'thinner' than water? Is there a non-toxic liquid thinner than water you could swim in?
@41:03 the antique gun enthusiast James Mitchell missed the blade completely, if watched in slow-mo, but I guess, that the team did not want to offend the old man, they planted the two balloons next to the blade, to conceal the real incident in advance and pretend for the public, that he hit the blade.
Idk. Slowing it down, it's super hard to see. That little bit over the yellow balloon could just be debris from the barrel cause it doesn't even put a hole in the paper, not like the other ones anyway
Yeah on the slomo you can see the projectile splashback from the back board caused the balloons to rupture not the bullet splitting. That said, he missed the blade by a hair, it was still an incredible shot.
if any mac gyver fan is reading this. i want to watch the old 90s mac gyver with dean anderson as an actor. is it possible to stream it anywhere? would be a huge help to find an option.
If my memory of the show’s history serves, Jamie was actually originally slated to host the show alone but asked that they bring on Adam because he didn’t think he was interesting enough by himself. I’d say he loved the show and loved doing it but hated the sensationalized trappings of reality TV that he had to put up with. I think it speaks more to his love for the show that he was willing to put up with things he didn’t like for the show’s entire runtime.
@@xGaLoSx Even if he did not like it on personal level he definitely had enough professional discipline to do it as well as he could. He was very good co-host. Neither of them would have worked alone. Hyneman was too dry and science-y while Savage was too enthusiastic so they almost perfectly balanced it out.
I don't think Adam has ever said they didn't want anything to do with each other they just weren't best friends. Also, Jamie has always been kinda cold since day one.
Swimming in syrup is funny. Lol remind me on the Simpsons Episode with the dolphin. Not the Halloween spechial, i mean the episode with bart and his girlfriend.
You can take a 9mm from a luger pistol of WW1 and put it in a modern Glock. Bullets went through a massive revolution at the end of the 19th century and have remained identical pretty much ever since. Most bullets commonly used today are from the early 20th century.
