My Dad was from Prestwick in Ayreshire (came to Australia) and I still have relatives there in Ayr itself, who I have visited a number of times. It’s a beautiful area of Scotland.
This is lovely. I am researching and have family from Ayrshire. Daniel (Donald) Matheson was a highlander from Ross & Cromarty in the 1800s. He married Margaret Jardine in 1848 in Muirkirk Ayrshire. Quite a distance to travel at that time, so I’m curious to learn circumstances if I may be able to… I know that Daniel and Margaret gave birth to twins, and one survived. They were baptized in Muirkirk in 1849, then they emigrated to America!! Hoping to trace further back and learn the role Ayrshire played!
Thanks for the informative video. I was adopted & through dna research have found much of my ancestry is from Ayrshire area & surnames Hamilton, Pollock & Stewart. I'm planning travel to the area to research my roots and your video has given me a good start :)
My great- grandfather's first wife had a grandfather called Hugh Reid ( 1754 -1809 ) who co-founded the Batchelors Club in Tarbolton with the brothers Robert and Gilbert Burns. They were all Tarbolton farmers.
My Great Great Grandfather McEwen came from Ayrshire county to where we live in Tennessee in the States, in the 1800's. I would love to visit this area some day.
Hello David. I'm glad that you enjoyed our Ayrshire Ancestors video. Bit colder than Hawaii! The Cunninghams came from Monkton in Ayrshire which I drive past regularly. Please let me know if you'd like any help researching your ancestry. George
@@georgeenglish8482 ... thank you ....I was wondering if my great grandfather is connected to Malcolm Crawford and his wife Margaret Cunningham ...I think that would fascinating...if my parents coming from Crawford on mom's side and dad coming from Cunningham..had a genitic connection in the past..

very difficult to trace Ancestors from scotland over the short distance here in ulster the Americans seem to be fascinated to find a irish or scottish connection don't know why nothing special coming from these parts be glad you made it to the new world folks
There’s always a desire to find where your ancestors came from. I’m grateful to be an American. At the same time, I know I have a lineage in Scotland, I’d love to find them one day.
I have a Great Great Grandfather who was said to be from Ayr but was a merchant mariner who spent most of his adult life in Queenstown, (Cobh) County Cork, Ireland. His birth said to be 1816 but I had not seen a record for anyone of his name with the date. His son my ancestor immigrated to the USA in the 1880s and my family here in America since. I have never been to Scotland or any UK place other than the commonwealth country of Canada on our border.
@@georgeenglish8482 I live in America, Texas. My Great, great, great, great grandfather came from Ireland and ended up in Ohio/border Pennsylvania. I have to look at notes but I think he was from Donegal, N Ireland. I know Kyle surname origin is from Ayr.

Why does every website say that my surname AYRES comes from Ayrshire? Most of my ancestors were travelling gypsies from places hampshire, berkshire and kent to name a few. Any chance you could make a video on best was of tracing traveling gypsy families ancestry as its quite a hard thing to research due to poor records?
Hello Roxy The most likely origin of Ayres is a nickname. 'the son of the heir.' Possibly a variant of Ayre or Eyre. Remember that surnames were formed many centuries ago, almost certainly before your ancestors became travelling gypsies. George
How about records from 1700's. I have a william C. Kennedy who came from Cassilas, b 1728 and come to Virgina Colony in 1752. Parents were a James Kennedy and Janet Hamilton.
Clan relations could be quite nasty at time. I just returned from Scotland and do recommend going To Ayrshire. Spent 10 days in total, 2 in Glasgow, 2 in Edinburgh and 3 in Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland. If anyone goes to Scotland, go to Ayrshire. Final night at Scotsman Hotel in Edinburgh just across from Waverly Train Station. Go!@@targetglen
