Petersen's point is that we as a society have no conception of what being moral means without god. The very ideas you have of being good, valuing compassion and caring for others is informed by the last dregs of Christianity.

      @msmurk2011 6 лет назад +12

Rexler Brath Watch his Maps of Meanings 2017 lectures.. particularly starting at 7, 8, 9 etc.. He is religious but not religious like you think he is.. He uses symbols from Eastern religions.. Western religions.. ancient Egypt... Greece.. the Middle East.. He uses stories from all of these to talk about the state of human existence. The only reason he claims to be Christian is because Christianity is the last level of philosophy that was built on top of the philosophies that came before it.
When you see those you might understand why he talks about religion the way he does. He doesnt particularly think the stories of the Bible are historical. He doesnt think Jesus is a real person. They are stories with characters that represent us and what we go through.

    • @msmurk2011
      @msmurk2011 6 лет назад +13

He does reference modern day stories in his lectures. For example Pinocchio, The Lion King.. he has entire videos breaking down those movies. He has three full lectures breaking down Pinocchio. And two on the Lion King. Also literally in the videos i suggested he talks about Beauty and the Beast.. and Sleeping Beauty... also Harry Potter. You should seriously watch those videos. Just take it one at a time. Thats what I did. It changed my life. I rejected religion just like you.
Peterson changed how I even conceptualized religion. From thinking it was about believing in a God to seeing that its just philosophies people created on what to do so you don't have to live in suffering.

For those who have been listening to him for awhile, this rapid-fire concentration of his 30-plus years of intense study and soul searching is once again a,crystallizing and laser-directing towards the core of what it means to be fully & powerfully human, and towards the vital necessity of speaking & taking action from that foundation.

  • @nickh9726

In my opinion, this is Peterson at his finest. The energy that he usually spends over 2 hours is condensed into 30 minutes, and he tackles an issue that a lot of people, especially young people, haven't really grappled with: the absolute importance of free speech.
A lot of young people have been taught (literally, certain liberal and elite schools actually teach this) that the right freedom of speech is subservient to the right to not be offended, which is ridiculous. These "academics" justify this absurd claim by explaining that speech that offends people is equivalent to violence since the same brain areas that are triggered when someone is under violence are triggered when someone hears speech that they perceive to be attacking them.
This speech is an excellent rebuttal to that.

TimTheSeer Listen to i believe its titled “How to Change The World” on spotify. In Jps podcast he goes more in depth of what speaking “truth” is according to him. From what i understood was “truth” is when you talk about whatever you believe in with or with out sources, that you actually listen and take in the criticism that you receive from the person/people you speak to. Constantly talking to other people of things that are important to you helps you find your own truth, therefore allowing you to speak the truth. I commented because perhaps you think truth is simply having credible sources, or having a strong argument. Peterson has said listen to people as if they have information you do not know. Thats its ✌🏽

You're right when it comes to the actual existence of thinking and your beliefs you decode it like that

Jordan, the river of hope poring out all he has inside,
telling his monumental truth, which is more than his truth, THE TRUTH, to all of us, in a manner I'f never experienced before, not from him, nor from anybody else, a sermon of truth, letting my tears running down, a spiritual experience. We can't overstate his importance, defending our values against the darkish relativists of far left, only having destruction in mind, to camouflage the failure of their ideas in all of the many experiments worldwide. I'f seen so many videos of him, but 'Jordan Peterson Discusses Free Speech and Raif Badawi' was the best in intensity, consistence and reduction to the essence. Thank you, Jordan, you river of hope and truth.

Hello from Saudi Arabia. I have been watching JP for a while an I would like to say, thank you for the helpful online videos and the incredible book (12 rule for life). As for the diplomatic crises between Saudi Arabia and Canada. I would say we saudis and our gov are very sensitive when the subject of human rights is discussed. But why that ? For multiple reasons, we don’t believe that western countries want to spread human for the sake of spreading it but instead a tool to use when ever a western power feels like it,we all saw for example the Second Iraq war that was built on lie and the human right abuse by the American before (sanctions) during and after. Another reason is many of these supposed human right activists in Saudi Arabia ruined the image reputation for western values especially FREE SPEECH they use human right activism to take revenge on what ever and whom ever they think did them wrong. no place in earth has no injustice, for a woman abused by her father for a man abused by his tribe to call for the COMPLETE removal of our culture and religion is absurd. The former king, King Abdullah have made many reforms and made a big effort to make place for freedom of speech many people who were working underground had platform to speak in and to directly talk with the ruling class but all of that was insured on ONE CONDITION never ever allow themselves to be a tool for foreign powers a condition that is vaulted by many of the recently arrested human right activists.
The Saudi society had walked out from an extreme period of Islamic fundamentalist thinking beginning in the 80s and ending very recently. We know we have a lot of things to fix. We are very frustrated with many of the things that we learned about in schools and mousqes turning out to be nothing but extreme ideological thoughts disguised as Islamic teachings. We are trying to sort ideological stuff from Islamic stuff and it is very difficult. And we would love to that while not being bombarded by radical leftist ideologies.
All of what is written above is the way I and many others feel about the current state of our society. I believe in free speech and I will try to get used to it (its very very hard). I am full of bias and ignorance as me JP says. but I will try to find the best way forward for my self and my family. Thank you mr JP and yes Saudi’s are listening at least some.

Human rights are universal and based on the equal value and sovereignty of each and every individual. Human rights is not something that was thought out by man himself. It is given from birth. Human rights are not something given to man because of some kind of benevolence from someone higher up in the human power hierarchy. That power only exerts different degrees of constraints.

We are all in this together and are GODS children. I also agree with NGOs bringing harm to a countries values, culture and society. Please keep SOROS out he is a evil man...Having said that brother I'am disappointed to hear that the young Saudi woman who attended the University of British Columbia Canada is in jail for her freedom as a human being to speak her mind. I may also say I'm ignorant to not know the whole story and culture in Saudi Arabia. I hope something could be worked out to allow her to be truly free as a human being and perhaps the young King may have the mercy and humility within himself to acknowledge that and that she may have more to offer society as a truly acceptable young lady to her Saudi community. GOD bless

We are all the same, really... we want the same things, for the most part, a safe & happy environment in which to raise our families. Everything else is a lie from the elite, who benefit from spreading hate & differences... instead of beginning, where even small children begin, looking for commonalties in which to build a relationships/friendships. I appreciate that we are all self aware enough to understand that we all have work to do. Blessings! ✝🙏

I am passionate in the belief that the right to free speech must become and remain the cornerstone of global society. My belief is based on the assumption, that if this right became enshrined and somehow made globally incontestable as the most important human right for all peoples of the world, then humanity would indeed have the only possible tool capable of putting and end to the rise of any tyranny. To that end, This is one of the best speeches I ever heard. Thank you Professor Peterson, for elucidating the monumental importance of freedom of speech so eloquently and precisely

Dr., I've seen a lot of your videos, i've seen your more recent interviews on fox.
The thing that is becoming most prominent to me from your talks is the importance of truth. And I've always known the importance of truth. I was born in '59, my mother was 39 at the time, my dad was 40. It's amazing to me to think that if he were still alive he would be 99. The world, or at least our part of it was much different then. My mother was my main teacher of life lessons, although my dad with his 44 inch belt was there to help me learn as well. And two of the main themes I was taught was truth and respect. Both were not only expected, they were demanded of me. A third lesson was consistency. If, heaven forbid I told a lie, or didn't use proper terms of respect I would be punished. Not might be. Would be. Consistently. I was never unduly beaten, nor was I abused, but I knew as a certainty that if I transgressed I would be punished. As a result of this consistency, I held my transgressions to a minimum. I recall less than 10 times I was corrected, although there were almost certainly more, but not many. Because I knew there would be consequences.
Now take this to the social plane. I was not the exception to the rule. Almost all families in this time period had similar values, and methods of teaching. Dishonesty and theft were much less prevalent in society. But then from stage left came the idea that parents were ruining their children by spanking them for wrongdoing. And so the government came in in the form of child welfare services and told us we could not, at least publicly, hit our children, or we ourselves would face consequences. And of course this took away the leverage parents had to convince children they needed values, such as truth and respect. And this was happening on a nationwide, or probably more accurately a global scale.
This, I believe is what has led to the social decline we are dealing with today. And the conspiracy theorist in me believes this deterioration was perpetrated by the same major players that are pushing globalism today.
I believe you are, and I hate to use this term, but, religious. Maybe more accurately a man of faith. Globalism and the bible do not complement each other. Globalists do not promote the bible. The bible is truth. Globalism is based on lies and deception. So the seed they planted so long ago has come to maturity.
Proverbs 13:24, and this is paraphrased down to what we recognize, tells us if we spare the rod we spoil the child. This generation of children whom we were told should be spared from the rod is now becoming the ruling class. And in them there is no truth. And then we have incompatible religions, but that is another story.
Sorry it took me so long to get to my point. You're supposed to be in Irving, Tx. Oct. 11. That's only about twenty miles from me here in Fort Worth. I will try to make it, depending on the price of tickets. Thank you, doctor. I have much respect for you.

When moneymaking is cutting into the own flesh,
like euphorious deals with the saudis, calling the main supporters of islamists with their wahabism our friends, then, we don't need additional enemies. We've seen the Donald licking saudi hands only to allow deals for the oil industry, weapon productions...
If our principles exclusively stand firm sundays and getting raped weekdays, no wonder the saudis act like the kings of the world, with their monetary potential. If we don't make the business, others will, gives me chills. We saw in the cold war, as Jordan was pointing out, how much humans are prepared to sacrifice for our convictions, namely the ultimate destruction of the planet, so we can see how important principles, meanings are.
I think this is one of the most important conclusions of Jordan, the river of wisdom in maps of meaning, going where it really hurts and finding the importance of values and meanings for humans. They must be of core importance, if not, we would not have risked all for such.
But now, as the cold war is won, our darkish egoism sells everything, our values and virtues only for the sake of short therm money, we blind opportunists. That way, missing a chance to foster our values with truthfulness, consequence and firmness. Why should the saudis and other wealthy but mean systems, reevaluate their actions, facing a corrupt system of bigot sunday talkers, selling our highest goods to the darkest systems. Our values are far above theirs, but our egoism and bigotries also, a clap onto the faces of those who have defended our virtues with their lives.

Michael-6 well, to me he IS the ideal man, he's extremely intelligent and compassionate, that's what's makes him strong, weight lifting it's pointless if you lack intelligence because all of that physical strength isn't that necessary in this day and age ...
Other than that, I find him very attractive, idk if it's just because of his wonderful personality tho
Or maybe i just have daddy issues 🤣

Amelia L He is definitely a stunner, I noticed that from day one. I also love the way he wins his arguments, always putting people on the spot.

Then we need one to get into office just like Donald John Trump. He wasn't a politician and not only did he change the game, he's saving America. Let Jordan save Canada. #Peterson2023 #Bernier2019
