There are 400,000 new CDL licenses issued every year in the United States the idea of a trucker shortage is a myth if anything it’s related to people quitting because their pay is crappy you get $45,000 a year to work 70 to 80 hours a week you’re only home two or three days a month. You might spend another 15 hours a week waiting for your truck to get loaded or unloaded there’s no shortage don’t listen to the lies
Seeing these comments reminds of what I was thinking when I left retail management for engineering around 2006. You'd hear these companies complain "We can't find people who are willing to work hard and do these jobs." Let me correct that for you, you can't find people willing to work 60-70 hours a week, weekends, holidays, not allowed to take vacation around the holidays, dealing with all the stress with customers, and so on for the handsome salary of 32k and raises that don't come close to the increase in the cost of living. Immigrants might be willing to work for low wages but for how long? The mentality of "I'm much better off than before" only will last for so long.
This was an interesting story. However, they showed the statistic of the trucking industry having a 96% turnover rate, but did not elaborate on it. Why are so few staying with the job?
Weeks to months out on the road away from family, low pay for new drivers. The pay isn't really like it used to be 20+ years ago, A lot of responsibility placed on drivers. Shippers and receivers are a huge problem also.
@@4seeableTV The turn over is a big issue for the mega fleets, Swift, Prime, Werner etc etc. They are often referred to as starter companies, as they will hire anyone. They tend to be the ones with training locations all over the US, and will offer "free" training. Which isn't free as they require typically a 1 year contract, which they then take out 5K-8K for the "free" training. So you get new drivers who are feed a line of good pay, and after their first year. basically away from home the majority of the time, making minimum wage or barely above it. They end up quitting getting a local job, making the same or more money. The better paying smaller fleets out there, often require 1+ years of experience. But most new drivers have been burned by the mega fleets, and aren't going to stick around. Again this is a very generalized view of the problem.

They are largely farmers from rural areas and trucking is a BIG part of the community back in India so they simply bring that here. These guys aren’t running measly loads making 50-60 grand, the average Punjabi trucker owns two trucks and they are very well off. Majority of them have established trucking companies.
Turnover for truck drivers in fleets with more than $30 million of annual revenue was 92% at the end of 2020, meaning roughly 9 out of every 10 drivers will no longer be working for that company in a year.Nov 12, 2021

It's not just a turban, look how its wrapped. I see these guys all over the place doing the same good job. Trucking companies are the real problem . Look up the big name companies and you will see how many times they been sued just for wage violations
Then Sikh people should be on top of the Immigration department. The way Sikhs feed people single-handedly, if the US Government asks them to take care of all the homeless in the US, pretty sure they can and without demanding them to change their religion.
most truck drivers are hardworking, decent, and good people, but the reason for the high turnover is contributed to trucking companies high demand for the driver to stay out on longer on the road, away from family, pay issues, dangers associated with the job, and disrespect/bad treatment from costumers, non CDL drivers on the road. I have had a CDL for 5 years now, truck driving is my fall back whenever I'm between jobs, each week I bring home between 800-1200 which all depends on job assignments, usually staying out on the road for 4-5 days, working between 55-70 hours each week. got to say, the music video is dope! :)

There's not a driver shortage. There's a pay and freight rate shortage. Now Amazon is trying to undercut the system with taking a below cost rate to get rid of the competition. Not too many companies will be able to stand the loss for long. You can see companies going under already.
Liers. I got my cdl A license since 2015 due to a lack 18 wheel experience I started driving straight box truck for three years ,. Every time I applied for a class A driver company just turn me down because lack eighteen wheel experience, so what's the problem here?, companies just want burning you, high experience drivers no balance life, low pay, low benefits. Load and unload your own truck etc etc
You add 50,000 new drivers to the industry will not help. There is a shortage of parking as it is. Truck stops fill up quickly as it is. Plus states are closing rest areas to. And yes pay is increasing but for company drivers not owner operators. And electronic logs is not the answer. That just makes that everyone makes the same amount of money.
Good for them. My father is a trucker from Costa Rica and is his own owner operator too. He works hard like any other man and he makes a good living from it. If you play this game well, you will do well. If you don't you'll be the one of thousands who think that trucking doesn't pay well. It does and doesn't. Most people just don't want to put in the grind to make it work and the patience to stay the course. Remember, if you're not willing to do necessary work in this country, someone else well. Don't blame immigrants for taking this or that job when you either can't hack it or you don't want to do it. Otherwise get a math degree and pull 6 figures in Silicon Valley and go that route. No matter which way you go, its grinding and more grinding.
Amazon isn't gonna risk hiking their prices at any cost right now. They're investing heavily in automated delivery systems. The first to roll out will be self-driving trucks. Truckers are gonna get wiped out.
More than half of them can't drive a truck worth a dam and will pull right out in front of you or cut you off. There is no driver shortage it's companies not wanting to pay the driver what he's worth, or treat them like a person and not a number. I'm glad I have found a good trucking companie that treats me right home every night work 5 days a week and $70,000 a year.
So I applied to four trucking companies. None of them wanted to hire me because I was in prison for a non-violent crime! They told me to cine back when I have been out for seven years, which is two years away. If they need drivers so bad how about letting some of us non-violent guys get hired?

I dreamed about being a Trucker since I was a kid. I got my A and was ready to go. Signed up with a mega carrier to get the experience. Didn't mind it at all being away. What pushed me out was the lies the company told. I was an "OTR" driver, but only got 200-400 mile loads, with 3-6 days to do them!!! Then would get a "longer" load and have to sit and wait to load or unload, or wrong pickup/drop dates/times or wrong paperwork. Was always something out of my control. And once I got to the east coast (mid Atlantic and NE) I never went past Kentucky. Asked over and over to get longer loads and to go west to be told those are for teams. Managed to get 2800 miles a few times but was usually well under 2000. When you sit places spending money to eat and shower waiting to get a load for days, eventually you give up. I did after 6 months. Still dream to drive for a real OTR co, but doubt will ever happen.
In 1968 the average company driver made equivalent of $180k in today’s wages. However that was way before deregulation. Deregulation and the CDL was the spiral downward in this industry.
The reason why there's a driver shortage is because of lack of proper pay for a lot of drivers out there. Also there has been a driver shortage ever since the 90s I was driving back then and every year they have a driver shortage or high turnover rate so this is nothing new
Their not the new faces of trucking, bs. I'm a trucker for 15 years. The high turn over is due to certain drivers fn up the industry by doing the job for pennies. The large companies will not go back to the norm of correct rates when there's THAT GUY/WOMAN who's under cutting his or herself in the industry.
I’ll interpret this for you: Pay drivers less. Driver quit. People refuse to become drivers due to low pay. Company then seeks drivers that they know they can pay little. It’s brilliant.
I’ve been driving for over 22 years. There’s no shortage of drivers. The trucking industry has changed drastically. With the new medical regulations, it’s impossible to keep truckers. In addition to the hours rules. I, love trucks, but the industry sucks.
It's a viscous cycle. Companies are still cutting rates and hauling freight for 80's rates. It costs a fortune to run a truck up and down the road and so hauling cheap freight the company expects the driver to run for nothing. Drivers are tired of running for nothing and are walking away from it, just not worth it. That's why trucking companies are hiring foreigners and anyone with a pulse to drive. They'll do it for nothing because it's better than where they came from!
I got my cdl class a then got a driving job locally and getting paid more. There's no trucker shortage plenty of people have a license. It just doesn't pay that's why nobody is trucking anymore.

@@bambjatt3939 ...wow ... you are a Idiot Sir..
Thanks for the info.

My father and multiple family members of mine are truck drivers, owner operators to be exact. From my point of view, there's no driver shortage in urban areas. Not so sure about rural areas. Many drivers don't take on certain trips because the wages are crap. If there was such a shortage, most drivers would be making six figures. It's just many companies are stingy with wages.
No shortage. Just low wages. It's better to work at Walmart than go over the road. All these cutthroat companies dont pay enough and you're away from home all the time.
Go to work for Wal-Mart there drivers make 80+K a year
The problem with the trucking started with share holder Capitalism were the Money goes to the CEO and the shareholder.
Agree.

Sikh Punjabi truckers aren’t an “unexpected” source. Their lifestyle is almost identical to the American southerners, they work HARD. They are largely farmers from rural areas and trucking is a BIG part of the community back in India so they simply bring that here. These guys aren’t running measly loads making 50-60 grand, the average Punjabi trucker owns two trucks and they are very well off. Majority of them have established trucking companies.
Even here in India, the Sikhs are the strongest, hard working, warm and nicest people. Love from Kerala.
You're not in India.
The consumer is paying more but the trucker isnt making more do real research
Turnover for truck drivers in fleets with more than $30 million of annual revenue was 92% at the end of 2020, meaning roughly 9 out of every 10 drivers will no longer be working for that company in a year.Nov 12, 2021
Loads aren't paying good that's why truckers are leaving the industry .
I am a trucker and I've met many good Sikhs out here on the road. You can't get young white guys to do this job. It's a hard life and not everyone is cut for it.
Much respect to Sikhs (They are NOT Muslims / Sharia Law) , so awesome to see them more, they stay true to their faith and will not hesitate to help others in need. they are the warriors and the good Samaritan.
It's not just a turban, look how its wrapped. I see these guys all over the place doing the same good job. Trucking companies are the real problem . Look up the big name companies and you will see how many times they been sued just for wage violations
Driving a semi truck isn't a really great deal. The pay is often not great, the government is to involved in it and it's difficult and dangerous.

@Rusty Shackelford a little harsh, but true.
Anybody that comes to America that assimilates, works hard, and gives more than takes is welcome in my eyes.
Trucker pay has gone down since 1989. And still there's no shortage of drivers. But not every can handle the Real Facts about trucking

Most Sikhs I know are owner operators making $200-$250k gross, around $100-$120k net per truck

Annnnnnddddddd what they have a turban ? What’s the problem ?
^^^ real talk
Amazon isn't gonna risk hiking their prices at any cost right now. They're investing heavily in automated delivery systems. The first to roll out will be self-driving trucks. Truckers are gonna get wiped out.
More than half of them can't drive a truck worth a dam and will pull right out in front of you or cut you off.
There is no driver shortage it's companies not wanting to pay the driver what he's worth, or treat them like a person and not a number.
I'm glad I have found a good trucking companie that treats me right home every night work 5 days a week and $70,000 a year.
Sikhs are beautiful people.
They ain't Indian, they are Punjabi!!!!
So I applied to four trucking companies. None of them wanted to hire me because I was in prison for a non-violent crime! They told me to cine back when I have been out for seven years, which is two years away. If they need drivers so bad how about letting some of us non-violent guys get hired?

Driver shortage my ax! Truck overage is all. This is still the only business that the company goes looking for work and the customer tells the business what the load pays!
Nobody want to work for 5 buck an hour.
Started with a used rig now owns a few , that’s the dream isn’t it climb crawl scrounge your way to the top never give up . Sikhs also are a huge part of the transport industry in India , and their truck stops have the best food .
If being a doctor paid $1000 a week would they call it a doctor shortage or low wages keeping people away ?
What they don’t tell you is he don’t taxes for 7 or more years while the rest of us Americans still have to pay taxes every year
I dreamed about being a Trucker since I was a kid.
I want to become a trucker too, and I don't even care if I'm away for months, I can drive OTR and live in my truck and save up a lot of money.
Pay the drivers proper pay! No problem!
In 1968 the average company driver made equivalent of $180k in today’s wages. However that was way before deregulation. Deregulation and the CDL was the spiral downward in this industry.
Yet... Yet when you go to book loads, not many options available most of which the pay doesn't even cover the fuel.
The reason why there's a driver shortage is because of lack of proper pay for a lot of drivers out there. Also there has been a driver shortage ever since the 90s I was driving back then and every year they have a driver shortage or high turnover rate so this is nothing new
i have a cdl a with tanker and double triple, 1 yr otr looking for owner op truck since there is a shortage
I’ll interpret this for you:
Pay drivers less.
Fake there is not drivers shortage
Starting pay for truckers should be $75,000 a year. Without truckers the world would shut down.
Yeah it should be but unfortunately it will never be. Not only truckers, but everyone in the country underpaid...
