    Charlene's mountain-style divorce is one of my favorite episodes.

    • @tffan1029
      @tffan1029 5 лет назад +2

      Well, I for one hate this episode. Lengthy explanation and extreme opinion incoming.
      This episode has the same 'Charlene falls for Andy, although different with divorcing Dud Walsh, Andy tries to get away from her, Briscoe Darling ignores Andy not wanting to have anything to do with Charlene' crap from "The Darlings are Coming", only worse because Andy is forced into marrying Charlene when he obviously doesn't want to. Dud is at his worst, he won't listen to Andy when he tries to explain everything, I feel he's out of character because he acts like a 100% mountain man when he is a civilian/ex-marine who married a mountain woman, who may adapt to some mountain traditions, but not become one of them completely. If he was played his original actor instead of Bob Denver, I think he would have, at least, listened to Andy. And, worst of all, the episode ends like the events didn't happen at all, with Briscoe acting all innocent, despite what he's done to Andy, and Andy lets bygones be bygones. I would not be so forgiving if that ever happened to me. And even worse than that, the Elephant in the Room of this episode is Andy being forced into a marriage with someone whom he doesn't even have eyes on. I don't care that the Darlings are mountain people. There's a law against forced marriage! The show takes place where the law is in effect. Therefore, the Darlings should have been arrested for forced marriage. I also don't care that Briscoe is a widower and wants what's best for his family, or stubborn in his beliefs; if somebody doesn't want to marry someone else, who they don't want anything to do with no less, then it should be left at that! There's following your beliefs, then there's doing so to the point of being blind to what's obviously in front of you, ignorant and stupid. How am I the only one who is not okay with this episode?

    • @adamsafranek7407
      @adamsafranek7407 11 месяцев назад

      @@tffan1029I get what you're saying and this is actually my least favorite Darlings episode of the first 3, but I think the rage about "forced marriage" is a stretch. I live in Virginia at the base of the Appalachians and I think this episode has more to do with exploring the superstitions you can expect to find in Appalachia.(i.e. The rider dressed in black on a white horse) Barney had his superstitions too with the chain letter and even in this episode believing that wearing a ruby ring while riding a horse will make the horse go mad) Even the people here in the valley seem to have carry-over superstitions that started with stories from their parents and grandparents; superstitions that aren't much different than the ones portrayed on the show.
      I totally agree that Bob Denver's portrayal as Dud was far too out of character for the original Dud who was a former Marine. I realize though that this is just comedy and supposed to be something that takes you away from real life for half an hour so I don't dive too deeply into every single aspect of any episode. I was in the hospital for almost a month last year after surgery for a blockage in my stomach and watching reruns of TAGS on TV was one of the things that helped get me through the pain and tedium of being stuck in a hospital bed. I also grew up with TAGS as a kid.
      Anyhow, I see what you're getting at. I just wanted to put my take on it out there too as I live in Appalachia. Wishing you the very best. 🙂

      @tffan1029 11 месяцев назад

      @@adamsafranek7407 I appreciate you hearing my opinion out, and I'm happy that I'm not the only one who hates "Divorce Mountain Style". You say that it's your least favorite out of the first 3 Darling episodes, but if I may ask, what are your thoughts on the only other Darling episodes: "Briscoe Declares for Aunt Bee" which came before "Divorce Mountain Style", "The Darling Baby" during season 5, and "The Darling Fortune" during the colored seasons of TAGS?

    Some time later, Charlene's husband got a job on a boat as First Mate on a tiny ship doing three hour tours from a tropic port. On a fateful trip the weather started getting rough and the tiny ship was tossed. The Minnow, it was lost.

    Denver had been a character actor on TV for decades. I think after Andy Griffith ended, he landed a role as Doris Day's pa in her TV show back in the late 60's.

    Bob Denver was born in New York, but I think he lived in Mercer County, WV. I remember him first as Maynard G. Krebs in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
