      I read some time ago that the Marquee drums were discontinued because of similarities to the Renowns. I had a dream a few years ago about a reintroduced Marquee that was birch shells, which spawned my idea- a reintroduced Marquee kit with the same 6 piece configuration available (8 10 12 16 22 with 14x5.5 snare) but with a 16x22 kick, and an add on 14 floor option. Satin finishes like the previous ones, and the shells either all birch or a combo- birch walnut, birch mahogany, or birch ash. Also, bring back the internal stain that the original Marquee had. Just an idea to allow this kit to exist alongside the Renowns!

      I'd also love to see a limited run of the old Grand Prix kits reissued or redesigned altogether, with the deeper rack toms to have a classic vibe.

      I would love to see Gretsch bring back the New Classic again. Extremely unique sound and quality.

    The drums sounded great, but the cymbals were what caught my attention. Wow, that was a beautifully musical set of Zildjians.

    I went to a drum shop for the first time in about 4 years. The prices of everything, new kits, cymbals, hardware, have gone through the roof! I was shocked by the prices, so much higher now.
    My advice: there are incredible kits, with great cymbals included, being sold by people who are selling them because they need the cash in these tough economic times. Some online thru your local buy/sell websites, some at your local pawnshop. I've personally bought full kits with cymbals/hardware everything at killer prices this way in the past, and never regretted it once. I only sold them because I too needed money when things were tight, or moved somewhere and I couldn't keep them.
    Just my experience to share.

      Agreed. Here in Canada, my local drum shop is selling a Broadkaster 20-14-12 kit in a gorgeous dark cherry finish at an insane 5049.99 CAN dollars.. It's still on display at the shop for the past 7 yrs, and doesn't look like it'll move anytime soon.

      @jakethepitador2558 5 месяцев назад

      @@rhythmista7707 Wow, I don't know what they bought the kit for at their wholesale price, but you'd think they would lower the price and get the kit out the door, even if it means little less profit. I can't understand their thinking.

    This kit is fantastic, Gretsch did a really amazing job with this one. I didn't know this particular renown was mahogany until this video so it's cool to see a higher end mahogany kit on the market. Always impressed by the Renown drums, even though it's limited I hope some of these kits will still be available in the future!!

      It's the samr mahogany as the Catalina club , thats the only set back for me. The 12 has good tone but not much volume. Wish these were maple at these sizes.

    Great job again sweetwater!!!
    I watch many drum demonstrations by Nick. To my ear honestly , all are similar sonic properties(if the size are similar each other).
    I believe that sounding depend on drummer (or the way drummer play, tuning ) rather on thr drum itself.
    Anyway, grab the drum kit you like (finishing, hardware, functioning, etc…)😁😁

    Very nice. It is not common anymore to find an all mahogany drum kit. Maple has a beautiful round tone. Birch is used because of it's tone's shorter sustain, but the tone is no where near as beautiful and complete as maple. Mahogany though does have a beautiful complete round tone, but the tone's sustain is short like birch; almost like a natural gate. The wood species is very cool. I wish more companies would make all Mahogany kits. I am under the impression that this is not the case because mahogany is an endangered species or somewhat endangered; maybe so slightly delicately endangered.

    • @goodtimejohnny8972
      @goodtimejohnny8972 8 месяцев назад +1

      If you enjoy mahogany wood because of the warm tone then check out Noble and Cooley's Tulipwood drumset. Has a little bit lower fundamental tone and is just as enjoyable.

    "Gretsch is an iconic manufacturer located in Ridgeland,N.C." So,Renown drums are made in the USA? Can someone make clear the difference between say Catalina Club mahogany and these besides the cast rims?

    I always wondered what is the advantage of having a interior sealer on the Gretsch drums.

    • @NEALBABBITT
      @NEALBABBITT 8 месяцев назад +1

      Sealer increases the projection and changed the sound because the sou d bounces around inside the drum more than unfinished. A finished interior also keeps the drums from getting moisture damaged on the inside as you can especially in humid places. I played in Minnesota where is absolutely looked like a storm was going on inside the drums because of all the moisture building up inside the drum. I can't even see how you could own drums there and not have them made out of fiberglass and brass so they don't rott and rust!

    Forever scared of the 13” tom. Though, I know the real reason is so they can nest it inside of the floor tom and eliminate a shipping box. For that price though, they could eat a little shipping cost. 🤷‍♂️

    • @DLemasa

      They nest the floor tom inside the kick when they ship this kit. 12" rack and snare are in separate boxes within the same shipping box.
