    You are a life saver Sir! I have bought this kind of Wifi Repeater but I was not getting the speed that I wanted. After watching this video, I understood that it is possible to switch the bands coming in and out of the repeater. I followed what you did and now I am getting the speed I want. Was getting frustrated already, but fortunately I found your video. THANK YOU!!!

    You mentioned the Ethernet isn’t an input,,, but it is. You can plug in a wired connection and emit a wifi signal. Page 20 of the Manual.

    Superb settings for this extender, i tried this then from the speed of 2ghz much faster..... from 5-10mbps it becomes 40-50mbps. I learned good information about this!!

    I bought this TP Link RE450 and have to say it works great as a signal extender, actually the signal is stronger than the one sent by the main router. The only issue is that it cuts your WiFi speed to half. I wrote TPLink support and they explained that in theory the processing speed is X2, since the modem send the signal to the repeater, and then the repeater sends the signal. My internet speed goes from 30 to 40 Mbps, and the speed i get from the repeater is between 15 and 25.
    So, i would say that if you are thinking on buying one, try to hire a high speed internet, or the signal you'll get from the repeater will be too slow.
    Great review by the way!

    My question is could you do a video on how to use winrar or winzip to upgrade the firmware on this extender? I have recently moved to a room with no hook up and had to use the same extender you are doing the review on.RE450 is a good range extender just been having issue with wifi dropping off intermittently. Subbed and liked video also.

    I had high hopes for this setup, but it is actually worse than just using 5G band on both router and extender.
    My router's 5G speed is 460Mbps and around 100 on 2.4G. When set up as in the video, extender's 2.4G is 130 Mbps. But when on 5G only on both, it is around 300Mbps.
    Extender firmware is up to date. Doubt tp-link support will have any good solutions and I probably will have to swallow my pride and route a cable to the extender and use it as an AP.

    Congratulations TaoM! Great video and great explanation. I was really confused trying to set it up but now it is clear except one little doubt: what LEDs should be on if we use it to receive the signal as you did in the video, i.e., receiving 5 GHz and transmitting it with 2.4 GHz? I'd appreciate it if you could also help me with the following: my ISPs router maximum speed at 2.4GHz is 50 Mbps, so beyond that I need to use 5GHz. To take advantage of the 200 Mbps that I am entitled to, should I then set it up to receive at 5 GHz and also transmit at 5 GHz? Thank you!

    • @TaoMStudio
      @TaoMStudio  6 лет назад

      Hi, Ricardo. thanks. 1. if you receive 5 GHz then the 5GHz light will be on. 2. For your situation I would suggest you try receive and transmit on 5GHz band. if it can achieve optimum speed and keep it stable, then keep it that way. otherwise, use receive on 5GHz then transmit on 2.4GHz. Hope this helps

    Hello. Can you disable both 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi extend and just connect a device via cable? Do the hosts that connect to the extender get an ip on the same network as the ones connecting to the original router or they are placed in a different range?
    Congrats on the video.

    Hi, but how do you set the RE450 to work on Hi Speed, just by not using the 2.4 range on the endpoints devices?

    • @EdSilvia1
      @EdSilvia1 Год назад

      Yes, by doing 5G in 2.4G out it reduces a lot of the processing that the repeater/extender must do. 2.5G is slower but less susceptible to interference, it can go through walls a lot easier than 5 gig.

    Does a mobile device reconnect depending if you are first near the main router, and then you move out of distance from the router, but you move near the Extender ? I am going to guess that it will reconnect to the extender automatically ?

      I've just purchase two RE450 wifi extender units for one of my Hikvision hd 4mp ip camera's on my outside garage,which is approximately 30 to 35 meters away from our home. They run perfectly in range with blue signal strength. However Tp-link UK say one unit can reach 12,000 square metres away..however we needed two units to reach our garage..hmmm.?

    I have a 100mbps connection. Now my main router is dual band. So 2.4Ghz band ssid tops speed at 40mbps and 5Ghz Band ssid goes till 100mbps. Now I have set up RE200 in Highspeed Mode, so it connects to main router at 2.4Ghz and transmits at 5Ghz. But when I connect to the Extended 5Ghz band of the RE200 the speed I get is 100mbps. How is it possible when the Repeater is connecting to main router at 2.4Ghz only which tops at 40mbps, but when it transmits at 5Ghz the speed I get is 100mbps.

    • @TaoMStudio
      @TaoMStudio  4 года назад

      @Aditya A. Aima
      Hi, sounds like your 2.4GHz connection is very sustainable(stable), and much less interference on 2.4GHz band. Depending on your main router spec, on 2.4GHz band, the speed could go up to 400mbs. Check your main router's specs.

      @@TaoMStudio The router is Huawei HG8145v5 but is ISP locked and enabled for remote configuration by ISP. However I am still confused about one thing. The channel router is using is free around my place but still router is reducing the 100mbps+ WAN connection to around 50 on 2.4Ghz but when I am using RE200 extender in High Speed Mode it's connection to Huawei on 2.4Ghz(it's actually unable to see 5Ghz SSID because it's on channel 149 which is not compatible for RE200) and broadcasting 5Ghz SSID on channel 36. Now if the host router i.e Huawei is only giving 50 mbps on 2 4Ghz how is TP link RE200 giving 100 mbps on its 5Ghz. Is it somehow connecting twice to Huawei and adding two up and broadcasting on 5GHz

    It does not extend wifi signals in my case.. I had 1750 and it just don't extend to the next room and also not the next floor. I m not sure what is use of extender if it can't extend the signals. Also I have seen speed goes significantly low on extended network
    If my router is giving 222mbps. The extender gives me 70.mbps.

      did you use the 2.4 -> 5 Ghz setting (high speed mode) settings? if not, try using it. It's completely normal to have only a fraction of the original speed. In fact, these devices are called wifi signal boosters, not wifi speed boosters...

  • @MattCorkum
    @MattCorkum 7 лет назад

    For High Speed Mode, is there an actual section in the settings to enable it? Or did you just simply choose to use the 5GHz for the router and 2.4GHz for the repeater yourself, basically forcing it into only talking to the router on one and clients on the other?

    • @TaoMStudio
      @TaoMStudio  7 лет назад +2

      Just choose 2 separate frequency networks. 1 to router, second as repearer.

    I have another model which is RE200 which can go up to 750Mbps. My internet speed can reach 300Mbps from wifi router, however when I connect to the extender, it's merely hit 140Mbps... Is this normal??

    • @TaoMStudio
      @TaoMStudio  6 лет назад +1

      Well. You will always have speed lose when using the extender. It also depends on the signal strength, interference,thick wall etc. I would suggest you to try using high speed mode and put them closer to test the max speed you can get, then find the best location for it. Try and error buddy. Hope this helps.

      i have the smaller version of tp link repeater, in box is write 300mbps... and when i using LAN try download with IDM
      i only get 3.124mbps...
      i go to main router and connect my Pc , i got 8.346mbps with IDM
      why? if i buy like yours,
      why you say i get 1000mbps? how can? the input signal of that repeater from wifi right? and the speed of wifi on 2.4 is 450mbps...
      how can i get 1000mbps with output LAN?

    • @TaoMStudio

      "Mbps" and "MBps" are different thing. Google it if in doubt. The ethernet port on RE450 is capable of Gigabit speed, but does not mean you will get that speed. "mbps" on the device itself simply means that the max speed it can cope. 👍
