    Its nice to see someone actually painted it the correct color. Yellow. lol I see so many old International Cub Cadets painted the modern (MTD CUB) orange/yellow. The originals are a pale yellow like this one is, and I'm not 100% sure but I believe the white was actually a very light grey originally. At least thats how it looks compared to a sheet of paper.

      I tried my hardest to do a fair job on it as far as painting. I miss the tractor. Was my beauty queen lol...

    I grew up with a 1971 model 149 almost exactly like this except the motor was painted yellow, the shoes on the sides of the mower deck were more flat than tubular, it had wheel weights and a lift arm on the back for attaching a plow, cultivator, etc. It was the "M1Abrams" of garden tractors and was practically indestructible. My dad traded it in when it was 18 years old for a new Cub(post IH). They are not built tough like this anymore.

    i have a 147 hydrostatic still runs and cuts like new love it i got a great deal on it from an old timer. told me it quit running he didnt know what it needed. i offered to fix it for him but he just wanted to get rid of it . all it needed was a coil wire i did do a full tune up points coil spark plug and wire and had to change both deck belts and one pulley on the mule drive but it will cut down anything you can drive through. nothing like there new ones they are selling

    I disagree, you should not have to bush hog an area, this tractor can cut through anything but you have to do three things 1) sharpen your blades. 2) get the engine running near full speed 3) go very slow over the area, dont try to cover 10 yards per second!

    I got all my tractors between 2003 up til present day, the first two i got was what started me on collecting them which is this tractor and my 1962 "Original" a Realtor friend told me he was selling a home that had tractor on the land, and told me if i wanted them to go get them, another two was from a local lawnmower repair shop in the back of the repair yard sitting for years, another i traded a electric motor for to a scrap yard, you just have to look, craigslist is a great source, Thanks!

    NO problem, I enjoy the Cub cadets and wheel horse tractors, but i will always prefer the CC tractor because its drive shaft, only one belt to run a impliment, to me thats better, You will be ok with hydro, just make sure the pump doesnt buzz or whine loud, lots of times its a sign of the pump with a lot of wear or low fluid, or bad fluid, If you ever get one post a vid of it, You cant beat old iron, made to last, good reason why you still see them around and selling for when they were new.

  • @Wallabydam

    Well I have used both, a geared tractor i think is best for a tiller setup or if you have a mini loader that way you have control of speed with your foot on the clutch at times, specially a mini loader, you need a hand on the wheel and one on the levers,, Hydro uses more power from the engine because of hydraulic coupling, its faster as far as no shifting, back and forth stuff, mowing grass, plowing snow, manual trannys get more power to the ground with less waste of power from engine,

    • @jhitt79
      @jhitt79 6 лет назад +1

      Wallabydam just my 2¢ but I think a hydro is better for just about everything except tractor pulls. If using a loader on a wide frame CC. It's very easy to convert to a rocker foot petal. And with plowing snow, I use a CC 125 (hydro) and I run out of traction long before I run out of power, and that's with chains and an extra 250lbs. on the rear, (I'm about 180lbs.) When tilling/plowing, again, you tend to run out of traction before power. Using the clutch to control speed is a good way to burn it up. I'd much rather keep the r.p.m.'s up high and keep ground speed low with the hydro for tilling. I'm not trying to be argumentative, just making conversation.

  • @Wallabydam
    @Wallabydam 11 лет назад +1

    hydro loses power through heat from fruid coupling, hydros are great for when you need to vary the speed for the conditions it gives you a perfect speed always, but i prefer when hauling, pulling, plowing a geared tranny, one with a creeper, or a low range first, hydro early model CC tractors were fast, 8mph Depending on the hydro they will pull most anything, in my woodspitter video, have a loaded trailer using a hydro pulling it, depends on the tractor, some hydros are junk, but not all..

  • @Wallabydam
    @Wallabydam 11 лет назад

    Exactly, I got good money for mine because i did alot of work to it, at least compared to how i got it, anytime you get something with Hydro tranny and hydro lift, anything with headlights adds to the price, also engine size, 12 hp is common, but you get a old one with 14 hp and up, it demands a lil more cash, also the sleeve hitch on the back , checkj out my other channel wallabydam you will see my group of tractors, I sold this one because i wanted someone else to enjoy it, had it for 8 years.

    Where did you find that new Cub Cadet seat?

  • @Wallabydam
    @Wallabydam 11 лет назад

    believe it or not, there was a "boom" with cub cadet tractors in 2004 - 2008 you could find them all over and parts all over like crazy, i looked on ebay and they are people selling them for crazy prices, 1500 and up for non restored plain jane models, if you ever get one, try and keep it for as long as you can, its not often they come up anymore, I hope you get to find one,

    My 149 backs wheels are locked upped. It will not go forward or backward. I am told there is some type of knobs or bolts on the back that can be pushed in to release the wheels. I can't locate them. Do you know anything about this? Thanks

    • @jawkingfishy
      @jawkingfishy 7 лет назад

      The plate between your legs should have a leaver to pull witch pushes 2 buttons on valve body to release wheels if it's broke take top off and push with fingers! Or repair it!

    • @christinaperez254
      @christinaperez254 6 лет назад

      If you fiddle with these release valves, know they easily get stuck. You may end up having to dig into the top of the transmission to loosen them back out.
